Mitt Romney Watch: Mitt Attacks Huckabee as Un-Republican

Republican presidential hopeful former Massachussets Gov. Mitt Romney speaks to local residents during a campaign stop Saturday, Dec. 15, 2007, in Humboldt, Iowa.

Mitt Romney, trailing in the Presidential polls to former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee angrily attacked him today as Un-Republican.

Mitt Romney accused Republican presidential rival Mike Huckabee of “running from the wrong party” for criticizing President Bush’s foreign policy as an “arrogant bunker mentality.”

Romney defended Bush against Huckabee’s charge, which the former Arkansas governor leveled in the January-February issue of the respected journal Foreign Affairs.

“I can’t believe he’d say that,” Romney said to a gathering of about 100 supporters in a restaurant here. “I had to look again—did this come from Barack Obama or from Hillary Clinton? Did it come from John Edwards? No, it was Governor Huckabee.”

And, it is wrong for Mike Huckabee to criticize President Bush whose leadership has plunged the GOP into disarray and who (with his failed leadership) has presided over the loss of majorities in Congress?

Mitt Romney shows his desperation in the polls with his NASTY and NEGATIVE television ads and direct mail pieces.

Now, there is this unnecessary and unwarranted attack on Huckabee.

Romney’s desperation is becoming pathetic. Moreover, is there is any candidate who has violated the GOP’s 11th commandment more than Romney in this campaign? Look at this ad Romney is running in Iowa:

Mitt, how about running a clean and honorable campaign? Enough of the desperate, nasty and dirty politics.

Update:

Mitt personally attacks Huckabee in these quotes:

“I simply can’t believe that. I can’t believe he’d say that. I’m afraid he’s running from the wrong party.”

Later with reporters, Romney went further into his criticism. “The suggestion that foreign affairs is like children on a playground — that’s not exactly the allegory I would draw upon. It’s a far more serious and monumental effort than kids at school.” He also leveled the following slam: “I was disappointed in the quality of the thinking and the quality of the recommendations there.”

Flap, I’m not with you on this one. I applaud Mitt Romney for going after Huckabee. Those were horrible comments from the Huck-Monster attacking President Bush. Do we really want this Arkansa Fiscal liberal, now proven Iraq War opponent to be our Party’s Nominee?

Anybody but Huckabee! (Except maybe Ron Paul, we don’t want him either).

    Eric,

I don’t think Huck is saying anything that is not being said by a majority of GOP voters. Romney’s attack may help Huckabee as portraying him as someone who is painfully honest about the state of the GOP.

Romney is too slick by half and flops all over the place. But, now he is just desperate and NASTY.

Sorry I could not vote for Romney.

Huck is not qualified to be president and is unelectable in a general election. I detest Romney. He is the epitome of an opportunistic politician who will say what he preceives to be politically convenient at the moment. I cannot and would not vote for either man.

    Flap,

I find attacks on Huckabee warranted and necessary. As Eric points out, the Huckster is a Big Government Socialist.

Attacking Huck for criticizing Bush, I think is a big mistake. Bush has destroyed the party and I think he’s destroying the country.

    Wise,

    Why do you care?

Aren’t you a libertarian that re-registered to the GOP to vote for Ron Paul? Are you now a Romney supporter?

    Flap is confused.

    Flap,

I’m a long term registered Republican who has voted for both Bush (2004) and McCain (2000 primary) in the past. I think Huck would be as much a disaster as Bush’s compassionate conservatism. His meteoric rise will become a meteoric fall as Republican’s find out more about him.

I’ve never been registered Libertarian although my views lean that way. I will be voting for Paul who by the way raised over $6,000,000 Sunday for his campaign.

Are you now a Romney supporter?

I don’t support Romney or any other Northeast Liberals. I think running away from Bush’s failures is the way for a Republican to beat the Democratic Nominee. For Romney to harp on what I consider a successful strategy (distancing from Bush) helps the Huckster and hurts Romney.
