Rudy Giuliani after last night’s Florida GOP debate

The New York Times endorses John McCain and Hillary Clinton for President.

What does this mean?

Not much to Rudy since they have been a nemesis to the Mayor since he started cleaning up New York City – much to the left wing media bastion’s chagrin.

But, how much does this HURT McCain?

This shows Republican voters that McCain is not very Republican. An endorsement from the NY Times in the primary should tank his chances in Republican primaries where only Republicans can vote unlike the previous primaries where anyone could vote. All you have to do is look at the numbers of indys and Dems voting in our first primaries to understand why McCain got a boost.

Have said from Day One if McCain were the nominee, then the Republican Party would not have a candidate. All you have to do is read what Senator Santorum said about his time with McCain in the Senate and how nasty the man can become when he doesn’t get his way which is usually something the Democrats want.

Look at the number of bills he has sponsored with the Democrats and then to top it off in 1994 he considered becoming Kerry’s Vice President — that should be all any Republican needs to say “NO” to Sen McCain!

I was part of a conference call last evening ( Jan. 24 ) with the Rudy campaign in which Florida and California were discussed. The campaign thinks that Florida will be close. Volunteers from other states are calling into Florida to firm up Rudy’s support. There is no question that Rudy is drawing much larger crowds than Romney and McCain.

The campaign thinks that Rudy will have an advantage because of early voting and absentee votes that were cast while other candidates were out of the state. It is anticipated that early votes will account for 35% of the total votes cast in the primary.

As I have previously stated, I am trying to avoid looking at polls. There appears to be a disconnect between the size of the crowds Rudy is drawing and polls. Hopefully this means that pollsters are missing the mark–I certainly hope so!!

Should Rudy finish first or second he remains a viable candidate. If not, will he withdraw on the Eve of Super Tuesday and endorse McCain?

    Very possible…….

    Rudy the Kingmaker

On the endorsement of McCain by Mel Maritnez, I don’t think endorsements carry much weight with voters. Rudy has hugh support in the Hispanic community in Florida, so I don’t think this will be significant.

Is it really that surprising that a senator would endorse a fellow brethren in the Senate?

    Dennis,

Mel Martinez is very popular in the Cuban community. He would only endorse if it were a sure thing that Rudy would be finishing out of the picture.

This is an attempt to bolster McCain and deny Romney a win.

I hope you are wrong about Rudy being out of the picture. If true, he is through, which will be a very sad moment for me– and I will contemplate what happen to his campaign for a long time.

I continue to see that large crowds are turning out for Rudy in Florida ( even in the Panhandle ). Something doesn’t make sense with the polls. Why the h— would McCain or Romney have particular appeal in that state?

Is also interesting to note all the columns which are coming out with Rudy’s political obituary. Something doesn’t smell right. Then I again, maybe I am just paranoid.

The media and pundits are in an all-out attack to drive Rudy out of the race. Poll numbers have not made sense to me in sometime out of FL because he gets the crowds and others don’t.

Cannot understand any appeal of Romney in FL. He dissed the Cuban community earlier this year and pandered to the Scientologist which is creepy in its itself. His pandering to Jeb Bush made me want to throw up. Heard sometime ago that Jeb would be waiting in the wings to run against a Dem in 2012. A lot of his peole went to Romney which made no sense either.

Would love to see Rudy win on Tuesday to have the last laugh on the pundits, conservative talk show hosts, and pollsters. That would be a sweet victory and think he can still pull it out with all the early voting that was done. The only poll that counts is the one at the ballot box. Cannot think of anything better then to have Rudy win and shove it in the faces of pundits, talk show hosts, and pollsters.

Well said Samantha. I think there is a concerted effort to take Rudy down if for no other reason to prove that they were right and Rudy was wrong about his strategy. This was mentioned last night in the conference call with the campaign when the advisors told us that the media’s main objective in any campaign is to make themselves relevant. Rudy has always refused to defer to the media, which is why they are always attacking him.

Have worked with someone out of FL for years and he is currently working on the proposition and not attached to a campaign. His take is that Rudy is probably 3-4% ahead right now in FL and that the polls are being scewed on purpose. He said there is no way a poll would have Rudy with the same percent in the Panhandle as South FL where Rudy is very strong. He also didn’t thing Martinez would mean much as a lot of Cubans have already voted and who they look up to is the former Governor Bob Martinez not Mel Martinez.

Heard yesterday from our political director who is in FL along with others from around the country that everything looks good. I am also hearing that the Cat Insurance is a winning strategy.

Romney is pouring a lot of money into FL in TV ads but his campaign stops are now showing it but then who would pay attention to a call from Bay Buchanan? Is Mel Martinez endorsing McCain to put Romney in 3rd?

Did you notice last night how much time they gave Romney? Free air time to spout off but he talks so long he is boring. NBC seemed to be pushing Romney as the flavor of the week. Disgusting media!
