Michael Ramirez Wins Pulitzer Prize
From the Pulitzer Prize website
ConservativeOpen-minded cartoonist Michael Ramirez, editorial cartoonist with Los Angeles based Investors Business Daily has won a 2008 Pulitzer Prize (via MM).Ramirez, 46, joined IBD in early 2006 — soon after being forced out of the Los Angeles Times. When asked if winning the Pulitzer was especially satisfying after that experience, he took the high road.
“I’m very grateful for the time I spent at the Times,” Ramirez said. “There were some wonderful people there. They gave me a great deal of creative freedom, and were very supportive until the last one-and-a-half years. I’m sad I wasn’t able to win a Pulitzer for them.”
But Ramirez said he’s thrilled to win for his current paper. “It’s fantastic to bring one home for IBD,” he said.
Ramirez previously won the Pulitzer in 1994 for The Commercial Appeal of Memphis, for which he worked from 1990 until joining the Times in 1997.
Cartoons in Ramirez’s Pulitzer portfolio this year included ones that commented on the vagueness of some of Barack Obama’s stands, on the troubled U.S. economy, on the use of corn to make ethanol rather than as food, and on other topics. Ramirez is considered a conservative cartoonist, but said he tries to approach every issue with an open mind. Sometimes, he noted, conservatives criticize his work.
Congrats Michael!

Hillary Clinton Watch: Boycott the Olympics Opening Ceremony
US Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton urged President George W. Bush to boycott the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics, saying he should press China over Tibet and Darfur.
Hillary Clinton, like Democrat Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, called today for President Bush to boycott the China Olympics opening ceremony this summer.
Clinton is calling on Bush to boycott the Olympics opening ceremony.
An aide confirms the news, reported first — EXCLUSIVE — by Drudge.
Leaders led by German chancellor Angela Merkel have made plans to boycott the opening ceremony to press China for its crackdown in Tibet.
A coalition of groups trying to end the Sudanese government’s attacks on civilians in Darfur also called Friday on world leaders to boycott the opening ceremony to protest China’s support for Sudan’s government.
Symbolism over substance.
This action will NOT mean a damn thing. But, typical of the Democrats and especially the Clintons.

NHS Dentistry Watch: English Continue Pulling Own Teeth as NHS System Collapses Around Them
Elizabeth Green: ‘The teeth got more and more painful and one evening I couldn’t take it any longer’
Another NHS Dentistry horror story in the UK.
Elizabeth Green, 76, telephoned 12 dental surgeries complaining of severe toothache, but was told every time that they were not accepting new NHS patients.
Finally, her two front teeth became so painful that she was forced to extract them herself.
The number of people carrying out DIY dentistry is thought to be on the rise, due to the dwindling availability of NHS dental treatment.
Mrs Green, a former chef, said it was made plain to her that treatment would be available only if she was willing to pay for it.
“I feel so angry,” she told the Daily Mail. “I’ve worked all my life and paid taxes and then when I need help I can’t get it.”
Obviously, market forces in Britain are privatizing the system while the government clings to a socialized model of dental delivery that has failed.
Maybe more stories will shame the government in working with British dentistry to facilitate a more hasty transition to private dental health care delivery while providing for the truly needy and disabled.

Barack Obama Watch: Jeremiah Wright Flap Contained?
Michael Ramirez on Rip Van Obama
Shocker – there is evidence that the Jeremiah Wright Flap may have some lingering effects to the Obama campaign.
Sen. Barack Obama’s Philadelphia speech on race relations last month seemed to put the controversial remarks of his former pastor behind him. But three weeks later, there is evidence of lingering damage.
“It has not been defused,” says David Parker, a North Carolina Democratic Party official and unpledged superdelegate. He says his worries about Republicans questioning Sen. Obama’s patriotism prompted him to raise the issue of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright Jr.’s remarks in conversations with both the Obama and Clinton campaigns.
“I’m concerned about seeing Willie Horton ads during the general election,” Mr. Parker says, referring to campaign ads that Republicans widely credited for helping defeat Michael Dukakis in 1988. Mr. Parker said the Wright controversy didn’t hurt his opinion of Mr. Obama.
National polls show the Illinois senator hasn’t suffered among Democratic primary voters. Contests in Pennsylvania on April 22, Indiana on May 6 and West Virginia on May 13 could serve as an important test. His performance among largely white, less-urban voters could show how well he can secure critical swing states in November.
Sen. Hillary Clinton has argued that she can better withstand Republican attacks. One of her senior advisers last week told the Talking Points Memo blog that he had raised the Wright issue with superdelegates. The campaign didn’t dispute the report. “[C]ertainly, as you recall, it was very heavily in the news and people, you know, sometimes have it on their minds,” Sen. Clinton told reporters last week.
Recent polls suggest that, in key swing states, the New York senator fares better in head-to-head matchups with Republican nominee Sen. John McCain than does Sen. Obama. In Ohio, Sen. Clinton led Sen. McCain 48% to 39%, while Sen. Obama led Sen. McCain 43% to 42% in Quinnipiac University polls conducted in the last week of March.
Flap knows the Jeremiah Wright flap has done serious damage to Obama and the Democrats. It has drawn the attention to voters of the inexperience of Barack AND Hillary.
If voters have NOT seen the God Damn America Wright videos, they will OVER AND OVER again this fall should Obama be the Democrat nominee.
McCain may very well have an easy time handling either of these candidates on GRAVITAS, EXPERIENCE and TRUSTWORTHINESS alone. Unless McCain self destructs with a personal scandal, the senior Senator from Arizona will be elected the next President.

Day By Day by Chris Muir April 7,2008
Day By Day by Chris Muir
The country is slipping into recession and there will be alot of folks working in jobs that will not be their first choice. Yet, the Democrats want to resort to “old” solutions in a new world economy.
Their “old” solution is tax and redistribute income.

One Democratic consultant, granted anonymity to speak candidly, predicted “a less combative campaign and more focused on her strengths.”
Mark Penn ran a lousy campaign anyway. Hillary will probably still lose.
