John McCain Watch: VP Sweepstakes – Crist, Jindal and Romney? Part Two – With VP Poll

Mitt Romney, Charlie Crist and Bobby Jindal

Vice President contenders? Former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney, Florida Governor Charlie Crist and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal

The “purely social”get together of Senator and presumptive GOP Presidential nominee John McCain at his Sedona, Arizona ranch Saturday with GOP leaders has “nothing whatsoever to do with the vice presidential selection process” according to Charlie Black, a key McCain campaign strategist.

    Right.

But, what is interesting is the emphasis (leak) now on Fox News that “other” perspective Vice President candidates have either ALREADY visited with McCain at the Hidden Valley Ranch, like Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty OR were invited this weekend and had other committments, like Mike Huckabee. Looks like the campaign was caught flat-footed on this “purely social” event.

Others mentioned to attend the Memorial Day weekend BBQ include:

    • Senator Lindsey Graham of South Carolina
    • Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas
    • Former e-Bay Chief Executive Meg Whitman
    • FedEx Corp. Chief Executive Frederick W. Smith

Ok, so maybe this is a “meet and greet’ and not a serious series of interviews. But, what better way to create some “BUZZ” over the Vice Presidential sweepstakes and at the same time begin the pundit vetting of potential candidates – all on the cheap of an Arizona BBQ grill.

So, Flap will go one step further and rip off this poll idea from Marc Ambinder except Flap will name names.

Vote for John McCain’s Vice President:

Conflicting Stories Over U.S. Representative Laura Richardson’s Home Foreclosure

United States Representative Laura Richardson (D-California) was officially sworn into office on Tuesday, September 4, 2007 to represent California’s 37th Congressional District.

The story Representative Laura Richardson is telling regarding her foreclosed Sacramento area house is NOT jiving with the public records.

A Long Beach congresswoman who fell behind lin her payments on a $535,000 mortgage in Sacramento said in a written statement that she owns the home, but financial documents show the house was sold at public auction and has been in the possession of the buyer for weeks.

The auction for Rep. Laura Richardson’s house, in Sacramento’s Curtis Park neighborhood, took place on May 7. The transaction was detailed in public records filed with the county.

Congresswoman, what the frak is going on with this home?

You know, the one you NO LONGER own.

If Flap were Washington Mutual (the mortgage holder) who lost over $200K on this foreclosure and Sacramento County (property tax collector), I would be suing her ass for every penny she transfers back from her campaign account.

Richardson, in the meantime, has worked a pretty good deal. She has been elected to a safe (lifetime tenure) African American seat in a Los Angeles area Congressional district, where she reaps campaign contributions from many special interests, including area defense contractors and unions. She walks away from this home and lets the lender, Washington Mutual, take the loss.

To pay for her campaign expenses and personal loan debt to HER OWN campaign she collects additional campaign contributions AFTER Washington Mutual forecloses on her equity strapped Sacramento property and takes the loss.

Her credit score takes a hit but she is an elected Member of Congress with a steady and sizable income. Richardson pays herself back from campaign contributions she accumulates over the course of her election year campaign.

But, now, she is seemingly lying over these shady transactions. It REALLY is transparent as to what she has done.

Is this kind of behavior Californians want from their members of Congress?

John McCain Rejects Reverend Hagee Endorsement

Reverend John Hagee and Senator John McCain

John McCain FINALLY rejects the endorsement of controversial Texas Pastor John Hagee. After CNN presses McCain on sermons uncovered where Hagee seemingly ties the Holocaust to an act of God, McCain issues a statement.

    The statement:

“Obviously, I find these remarks and others deeply offensive and indefensible, and I repudiate them. I did not know of them before Reverend Hagee’s endorsement, and I feel I must reject his endorsement as well. I have said I do not believe Senator Obama shares Reverend Wright’s extreme views. But let me also be clear, Reverend Hagee was not and is not my pastor or spiritual advisor, and I did not attend his church for twenty years. I have denounced statements he made immediately upon learning of them, as I do again today. “

Poor vetting by Team McCain in the first place. Before a candidate for President accepts an endorsement he damn well better make sure the guy is NOT a nutball.

Hillary Clinton Watch: The Committee to Count Every Vote

    *****Update*****

State Senate Minority Leader Steve Geller filed a federal lawsuit today against the Democratic National Committee in an attempt to get the full Florida delegation seated at the party’s national convention – with its votes weighted to reflect the results of the disputed Jan. 29 primary.

A supporter of U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton (D-NY) holds a sign during a campaign event at the University of Miami, Florida May 21, 2008.

Hillary Clinton supporters will swarm Washington D.C. next week to protest the Democrat Party disqualifying primary election votes in Michigan and Florida.

Supporters of Hillary Clinton are planning to swarm the capital in a little over a week to pressure Democratic Party leaders as they gather to decide the fate of the Florida and Michigan delegations.

The Committee to Count Every Vote – a project of Hillary Responders – said Thursday it was organizing a day-long May 31 rally outside the hotel where members of the Democratic National Committee’s Rules and Bylaws Committee are planning to meet that day.

“It is essential that everyone who can meets in Washington that day to rally for our cherished democratic principles, help enfranchise MI and FL and to show that Hillary has equal numbers of passionate, devoted supporters who believe fervently, notwithstanding any math, that she will the better general election candidate and best president,” they wrote in a message posted on the group’s Web site.

“Our purpose is not to divide the party or attack the DNC or Senator Obama. Michigan and Florida, however, in addition to Hillary’s strong support nationwide, cannot and must not be dismissed in DNC efforts to unify the party.”

The group said it was organizing buses to carry protestors to the meeting site, and could offer some overnight housing for those who could not afford to pay for accommodations.

The Clinton Cabal is turning up the heat on the Obama campaign. Hillary and Bill played the sexism/gender card earlier in the week and now are playing “the election was rigged” card.

And, what are the consequences of this prolonged, concertedly negative and discrediting effort to the Obama campaign and the Democrat Party?

It sinks their chances of winning Michigan and Florida Electoral College votes in the fall.

How will Obama get Hillary to cease and desist? Can he?

    Stay tuned…..

Why Howard Dean and Barack Obama Wish to Eliminate the Electoral College

    obamamccainec

    Graphic Courtesy of Electoral-Vote.com

Jim Geraghty has why the Democrats want to change how the President is elected.

I wonder if we’re witnessing a new Democratic strategy for well beyond the 2008 election — scrap the electoral college (a challenge, obviously) and nominate a candidate who can “run up” the vote totals in the areas Democrats already run well — big cities and university towns.

And, the GOP response to any CHANGE would be to insist that states go to proportional allocation of electoral college votes by Congressional district. This would yield the status quo to a GOP advantage. A case in point would be California.

The Democrats can WISH. However, a Constitutional amendment would be difficult and met with fierce GOP resistance.

By the way, did you look at the graphic above?

The real reason for the change?

Barack Obama, today, is losing the Presidency in the Electoral College.

Chris Cillizza of the Washington Post – The Fix interviews Governor Palin in February 2008

News Item: Alaska to sue to block polar bear listing

The state of Alaska will sue the U.S. government to stop the listing of the polar bear as a threatened species, arguing the designation will slow development in the state, Gov. Sarah Palin said on Wednesday.

Palin said the state will file a lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Washington challenging U.S. Interior Secretary Dirk Kempthorne’s decision to grant Endangered Species Act protections to the polar bear.

The Republican governor has argued that the ice-dependent polar bear, the first mammal granted Endangered Species Act listing because of global warming, does not need additional protections.

“We believe that the listing was unwarranted and that it’s unprecedented to list a currently healthy population based on uncertain climate models,” said Alaska Assistant Attorney General Steven Daugherty.

John McCain could make a statement to his conservative GOP base by selecting Sarah Palin as his vice Presidential choice.

Senator, forget about Romney, Crist or Jindal and invite Palin down for a visit.

    Vice President Hillary Clinton?

    gm080522

    Glenn McCoy on the Clintons

Would Barack Obama consider Hillary Clinton as his Vice President? Are the Clintons pushing the idea?

It is possible to muscle your way into a vice presidential nod: You have something the nominee wants, and he has to give it to you.

The question is: Does Hillary Clinton have that kind of muscle?

Her victories in states such as Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia and her strength with women and white working-class voters have fueled the argument that Barack Obama must put her on the ticket if he wins the nomination and wants those states and those votes in the fall.

And, as a senior Obama adviser told me Wednesday, some Clinton supporters are “pushing real, real hard to get her on the ticket.”

    Flap recommends Obama select Hillary.

    Why?

It would be a disaster for the Obama in the fall and should Obama win – the ultimate nightmare.

For the election the GOP wuld drudge up all of the Clinton baggage – not real change you can believe in but the same ol’ Clinton triangulation.

After an Obama victory, can you imagine having Hillary and Bill again in the White House and down the hall from the Oval Office?

Hillary as Vice President will NOT happen.

    John McCain in California Today

    McCain in Miami

Republican presidential candidate, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., gives a thumbs up as he drinks a coffee at Cafe Versailles on Tuesday, May 20, 2008, in Miami.

Senator John McCain, the presumptive GOP nominee for President has a one day swing through California which began last night with a fundraising event in Orange County.

Today there are stops planned in Union City and Stockton in Northern California.

While in the Bay area, McCain will attend a fundraising luncheon sponsored by ex-e-Bay CEO, Meg Whitman, a former Mitt Romney national fundriaisng chairwoman and aspiring 2012 California Governor candidate.

As McCain moves on to Stockton, he picks up the campaign dollars by attending an event at the home of GOP donor Alex Spanos.

McCain arrives in California today a definite underdog to presumptive Democrat nominee Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. The latest PPIC poll (page 10 here) has :

If the general election were held today, likely voters would favor Obama over McCain by 17 points (54% to 37%), an improvement for Obama since March (49% to 40%). Likely voters favor Clinton over McCain by 12 points (51% to 39%), an improvement for her also since March (46% to 43%).

Flap has seen little excitement among California conservatives for the McCain campaign. McCain is a buddy of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who has mismanaged California’s budget, is proposing a disfavored lottery redistribution plan/tax increase and has talked about rebranding the GOP.

Team McCain will come to California to raise the big bucks from the high tech companies and defense contractors who have an interest in preserving good relations with the GOP in the federal government. But, don’t look for McCain to put ANY effort into winning California in the fall. California is a blue state and will not be in play for McCain.

Day By Day by Chris Muir

President Bush has shown an inability to defend or even accurately communicate his policies – and much to the detriment of the GOP.

Now, John McCain is allowing the Left to portray him as a continuation of the inept Bush Administration – a Bush third term.

The President could finally help the GOP by going out on the stump to defend himself and the Republican Party. Bush needs to fight for his party and his legacy.
