Representative William Jefferson Watch: The Sap Keeps On Running

Rep. William Jefferson (D-La) leaves U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia after arraignment proceedings against him in Alexandria, Virginia June 8, 2007

Despite his indictment and the cash found in his freezer Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson is running for re-election.

Rep. William Jefferson, D-New Orleans, announced Tuesday that he will seek re-election to a 10th term even as he faces a Dec. 2 political corruption trial that he called an “overly zealous” prosecution based on “false factual allegations.”

A 16-count federal indictment filed in June 2007 “has not prevented my delivering for our district and our state,” Jefferson said in a statement announcing his candidacy.

“My family and I have sworn a great oath to trust God and to fight on to vindicate ourselves and our good name,” Jefferson said. “This we will do. And, in none of it, will I or they sacrifice our continued strong commitment and effective delivery of the things our people need to recover from the storm and from a bad economy.”

After details of the federal investigation of Jefferson became public after a raid of his congressional office in May 2006, House Democrats stripped him of his position on the powerful House Ways and Means Committee.

He remains without a committee assignment in the 110th Congress, despite his surprisingly easy victory in a December 2006 runoff against state Rep. Karen Carter Peterson, D-New Orleans.

Some political analysts think Jefferson will have a harder time winning re-election this year, given that since his indictment the congressman’s brother and political adviser, Mose Jefferson, and sister Betsy Jefferson, the Orleans Parish 4th District assessor, were indicted on charges they conspired to loot more than $600,000 in taxpayer money from three charities they established to help inner-city youths.

In another family scandal Representative William Jefferson’s younger sister, Brenda, today pled guilty in a charity scam.

Wow! What a family! They even steal from themselves.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Redo Rudy for New York Governor?

Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani addresses California Presidential

Volunteers in Burbank, California, November 13, 2007

Patrick Ruffini has a piece up today regarding Rudy Giuliani’s future political career.

Flap thinks a re-do Rudy is very probable since New York is more his element than Iowa or South Carolina.

But, Rudy needs better communications staff and strategists who are willing to attack his personal baggage head-on. No excuses and no obfuscation.

Giuliani needs to regain the edge he exhibited as the Mayor of New York City.

If Rudy can put the past behind him, he will be an easy winner against the corrupt Democrat regime of Governor’s Elliot Spitzer and David Paterson.

Pro GOP Tony Strickland Supporters June 17, 2008

    From the press release:

Last night, featured speaker Mitt Romney addressed a packed room of close to five hundred donors and supporters of Tony Strickland at the State Senate candidate’s highly anticipated fundraiser in Westlake Village. The event, which highlighted the importance of the 19th District Senate race, surpassed the original fundraising goal of $200,000 and took in nearly a quarter-million dollars.

The sold out event was an overwhelming success for Strickland and continues the trend of strong and growing support for his campaign. With only two days to prepare, the Strickland team was also able to organize a successful pushback to a protest at the event that had been planned for over a week and included between 30-40 people. At 92 supporters strong, the pro-Strickland crowd more than doubled that of the protest demonstration as they lined the streets with American flags and signs showing their support for Tony Strickland and welcoming Governor Romney to California.

Strickland’s opponent also didn’t escape the wrath of supporters as they carried signs slamming her tax and spend positions and exposed the hypocritical nature of contributions received by Hannah-Beth Jackson and the democratic party.

This California State Senate race may become the most costly in California history. Team Strickland has already announced that they have raised over $ 1 million for the race.

Malik Obama Says Barack Will Be Good for the Jews Despite His Muslim Background – But Malik Didn’t Say It

A Google Cache shot of the original news story

Remember the humorous quote on the day Barack Obama produced his FightTheSmears website?

    Well, it NEVER occurred.

ABC News got a hold of the audio of Malik’s interview with Israel Army Radio, and Malik said nothing of the kind.

You can’t hear the questions — only Malik’s answers (listen HERE) — but whatever the interviewer asked about Obama’s father’s Muslim heritage, or the Muslim minority in Kenya, Malik said, “I don’t think that’s in any way going to be something to worry about. I myself am not speaking for him. But we are here, we love people in general. People love us. I myself love people who love me. You know, so, and I think it’s mutual. I can’t go in terms of Israel and Kenya and America, and so forth, you know, but based on what else I’ve heard him say and what I know of him as an individual, I don’t think Israel should worry too much, you know, about the connection. Because, I am a Muslim myself, and I don’t think that my being a Muslim has got anything to do with my brother being the President of the United States.”

Slow Joe Biden Says Rudy Giuliani has NO Experience in Foreign Policy So Shut Up About Obama

    bidenjune27aweb

Senator “Slow” Joe Biden, renown for his plagiarism, weighs in on Rudy Giuliani’s criticism of Barack Obama’s national security policy.

It’s no surprise that it takes a man with zero national security and foreign policy experience to defend the policies of John McCain and President Bush.

The facts are that the policies President Bush has pursued and Senator McCain would continue, have not made us safer. We’re bogged down in Iraq with no end in sight and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan and Pakistan – the people who actually attacked us on 9/11 – have regrouped and are plotting new attacks. In fact, terrorist attacks around the world have increased since 9-11.

The problem is: Barack Obama has LESS experience than Giuliani, NO executive experience whatsoever, Rudy had to deal with the “FAILED” Clinton terrorism policy and Biden has his FACTS WRONG.

    We love you, “Slow” Joe.

Rudy Giuliani: Obama Wants USA to Be on Defense Against Terrorism

On a conference call this morning Rudy Giuliani continued his attacks on Barack Obama’s national security policy.

“I describe the difference as one being on offense and the other wanting to be on defense,” former New York City mayor and one-time GOP presidential candidate Rudy Giuliani just said on a conference call with reporters.

The “one” he believes would go on offense against terrorism, is GOP presidential contender John McCain. On “defense,” in Giuliani’s opinion: Democrat Barack Obama.

Giuliani believes it’s wrong to take a “criminal justice” approach to combating terrorism.

Giuliani also said it is “startling” that the Obama campaign believes Osama bin Laden would have the right to habeas corpus if he were apprehended.

    Listen to Giuliani’s comments here.

Barack Obama Watch: Muslims Barred from Obama Photo Op

What is good for the goose is not good enough for the gander apparently.

Two Muslim women at Barack Obama’s rally in Detroit Monday were barred from sitting behind the podium by campaign volunteers seeking to prevent the women’s headscarves from appearing in photographs or on television with the candidate.

The campaign has apologized to the women, all Obama supporters who said they felt betrayed by their treatment at the rally.

President Bush Asks for End to Offshore Drilling Ban

    Political cartoon by Michael Ramirez

President Bush today has called for an end to the offshore oil drilling ban.

President Bush, reversing a longstanding position, will call on Congress on Wednesday to end a federal ban on offshore oil drilling, according to White House officials who say Mr. Bush now wants to work with states to determine where drilling should occur.

There really is NO reason to delay new oil and natural gas exploration unless the American people wish to change their lifestyles.

If America had taken these steps ten years ago we would not be having the problems with $4 plus gasoline today. And, who is to blame? Guess who?

The Congressional moratorium was first enacted in 1982, and has been renewed every year since. It prohibits oil and gas leasing on most of the outer continental shelf, 3 miles to 200 miles offshore. Since 1990, it has been supplemented by the first President Bush’s executive order, which directed the Interior Department not to conduct offshore leasing or preleasing activity in areas covered by the legislative ban until 2000. In 1998, President Bill Clinton extended the offshore leasing prohibition until 2012.

It is time for the Democrat controlled Congress to do SOMETHING. The GOP in Congress and now the President have made concrete proposals.

    Over to the the Democrats.

    Think they will do anything?

Day By Day by Chris Muir

The Democrat prospect of more women voters disappeared with the collapse of the Hillary Clinton Presidential candidacy. Flap doubts that Barack Obama will be able to inspire the legions of women to turn out and vote as Hillary could.

But, in a tough GOP year with an unpopular President, will Barack be able to register and turn out sufficient numbers in other demographics to compensate?
