Sarah Palin Thrills Southern California Crowd
Republican vice presidential candidate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin speaks during a rally in Carson, Calif., Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008
“Electrifying,” “genuine” and “inspiring” were a few of the adjectives that Orange County voters used to describe Sarah Palin after her rally at the Home Depot Center in Carson on Saturday.
Although few were surprised by the content her speech, most O.C. residents who made the trek north said they were simply thrilled to see her in person.
“What surprised me was the enthusiasm here,” said Brad Michaels from Laguna Hills. “The energy level was so high.”
For Michaels, the highlight of the speech was Palin talking about Sen. Barack Obama. Yet other Orange County residents thought she did not hit Obama quite hard enough.
“We were glad that she brought up the corruption in Chicago and his relationship with (Vietnam era militant radical Bill) Ayers, but they need to do more of that,” said Diane Nelson.
Flap’s friend Jubal from the Red County was there and wrote this dispatch on her speech and rally.
Gov. Palin is, without a doubt, one of the best natural campaigners I have ever seen. She has an uncanny ability to connect with the audience — not just with what she says, but with who she is. The enthusiasm for her lacks the cult-of-personality undertones of Obama worship. You don’t see creepy videos of uniformly dressed school children singing how Sarah is gonna bring us democracy.
Palin wrapped up her speech a few minutes before it started drizzling, but she stayed by nearly half-and-hour working the crowd and signing autographs.
The crowd was estimated at around 15,000.
