In addition to the constituent outreach event in Camarillo earlier in the day, California state Senator Tony Strickland opened a new satellite constituent office in Santa Barbara.

    Read about it here.

Located at 610 Anacapa St., Suite B-4, above the Melting Pot Restaurant, the modest office space will be the Thousand Oaks Republican’s base of operations when he travels to the Santa Barbara area.

“To be a good representative you actually have to meet the people in your district that you represent,” said Strickland, whose 19th District includes large portions of Santa Barbara and Ventura vounties, and a smaller section of Los Angeles County. “I think it’s important to have a presence here in Santa Barbara so people know I’m going to be very accessible.”

ACORN is just the tip of the iceberg with the re-regulation of America by the “Big Government” Obama Administration.  All of the abuses of the “Great Society” and Jimmy Carter years are coming back.

Conservatives and the GOP are wondering what the have to do to win some seats back in the Congress.

Flap’s advice is to JUST wait and be patient – you will see.

The latest appointee, former GOP Assemblywoman Sharon Runner, will earn $128,109 as a member of the Agricultural Labor Relations Board, which meets once a month.

The Schwarzenegger appointments — whose cumulative salaries total more than three-quarters of a million dollars annually — have come as the state is battling record-setting deficits.

    • On Schwarzennegger, McClintock arose to demand that the federal government hold firm against California's efforts to impose stricter emissions standards for automobiles.

"I rise to urge the president not to waive the federal law on emission standards that is currently protecting Californians from Gov. Schwarzenegger's crusade to save our planet by destroying our economy," McClintock said, adding: "So I would respectfully suggest to the president that California's economic folly is not something that he should be copying."

McClintock also attacked both the Bush and Obama administrations for pushing hundreds of billions of dollars in new spending to bail out the economy.

"This proves what I like to call 'McClintock's Second Law of Political Physics,'" he said, adding laterr, "The more we spend on our mistakes, the less willing we are to admit them."

Statewide unemployment jumped to 10.1 percent last month, the state Employment Development Department said today. That was an increase from 8.7 percent and represented the highest rate since May 1983.

In addition, newly revised numbers show the state lost jobs at a far swifter rate than previously believed. While it was earlier reported that the state lost 257,000 jobs in 2008, the new numbers peg the job loss at nearly 462,000.

The drought has forced farmers to fallow their fields, put thousands of agricultural workers out of work and prompted conservation measures in cities throughout the state.

Schwarzenegger spokeswoman Lisa Page says the governor is expected to sign the proclamation Friday afternoon.

The order will direct state agencies to provide assistance for affected communities and businesses.

    • A conservative movement that currently finds itself out of power turned its attention here to the man who last led them out of the political wilderness 15 years ago: Newt Gingrich.

The former Republican speaker entered the ballroom here at the Conservative Political Action Conference to Survivor's "Eye of the Tiger," with the packed crowd standing and clapping to the song's beat. And in the first few moment of his remarks, Gingrich immediately criticized the month-old Obama administration.

He chastised Attorney General Eric Holder's recent speech that the U.S. was a nation of cowards when it comes to the issue of race.

"I welcome an opportunity to have a dialogue with you about cowardice anywhere, anytime," he said in comments directed at Holder. Then, turning to President Obama's Tuesday address to Congress and his budget, Gingrich called them "the boldest effort to create a European socialist government we have seen."

    • JTP is free to write his book, to do television appearances, etc. He will garner an audience or lose it based on his abilities in those areas, which may or may not exceed his ability to fix leaky pipes. The idea that Joe the Plumber is a spokesman for conservatism stems from those who write about him as if he were (the Politico’s Patrick Gavin in the link Ruffini provides), those who give him the soapbox (Pajamas Media), and, to a certain extent, those who feel the need to write in response to him (Ruffini).

Another point is that Joe the Plumber isn't the first ordinary citizen catapulted into national prominence by a random encounter with a Democratic president. (Paula Jones first told her story to the world at CPAC!) Twists of fate may give an ordinary citizen a moment of fame and the spotlight — but whether anyone keeps listening depends entirely on what they have to say.

    • The Associated Press has learned that James Dobson has resigned as chairman of the conservative Christian group Focus on the Family.

Jim Daly, president and chief executive officer of the Colorado Springs, Colo.-based ministry, said Friday that Dobson will continue to host the organization's flagship radio program and speak out on moral issues.

The departure of the 72-year-old Dobson as board chairman is part of a succession plan. He founded the group in 1977.

Dobson began relinquishing control of the group six years ago by stepping down as president and CEO.

Senator John McCain Tweets Top Ten Pork Projects in Omnibus Spending Bill

    john-mccain-tweets-pork

Here is GOP Senator John McCain’s list of the top ten porkiest projects in the Omnibus Spending Bill.

    1. $1.7 million for pig odor research in Iowa
    2. $2 million “for the promotion of astronomy” in Hawaii – because nothing says new jobs for average Americans like investing in astronomy
    3. $332,000 for the design and construction of a school sidewalk in Franklin, Texas – not enough $ for schools in the stimulus?
    4. $2.1 million for the Center for Grape Genetics in New York – quick peel me a grape.
    5. $650,000 for beaver management in North Carolina and Mississippi
    6. $1 million for mormon cricket control in Utah – is that the species of cricket or a game played by the brits?
    7. $300,000 for the Montana World Trade Center – enough said
    8. $200,000 “tattoo removal violence outreach program to could help gang members or others shed visible signs of their past” REALLY?
    9. $475,000 to build a parking garage in Provo City, Utah
    10. $1.7M “for a honey bee factory” in Weslaco, TX

Tax and spend = Obama Administration and his Democrat cronies in Congress.

The next time you purchase a gallon of gas or see your paycheck with its witholds of payroll taxes remember all of those tattoos you are helping remove.

    How ridiculous is this?

California GOP Assemblyman Chuck DeVore’s Solution to California Budget Woes: Drill Baby Drill

California GOP Assemblyman Chuck DeVore speaking on the floor of the California Assembly, February 14, 2009

Today, California GOP Assemblyman and U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore addressed a group of energy lawyers in San Francisco. His prescription for increasing California tax revenues: Drill Baby Drill.

Besides slicing and dicing Boxer during a red-meat speech to the California Republican Party convention last weekend, the state senator from Irvine let it be known that he will push a plan to get dollars flowing into California’s coffers without soaking average state taxpayers.

    His plan: Drill, baby, drill.

DeVore says there are 9 billion barrels of oil waiting to be had beneath California’s coastal waters. He calls for an aggressive off-shore oil exploitation program, using slant drilling technology. He says tax revenues produced by increased oil operations may well grease the way to balanced state budgets.

“Those are state waters,” he says. “That’s our oil.”

This solution is almost too simple. But, the “Save the Whale” types in Santa Barbara and Monterey will continue to block drilling – even the slant drilling type because they fear oil spill and the despoiling of animal habitats.

Now, new technology may alleviate the concerns for any oil spill mishaps but it will be a hard sell to these environmental zealots.

During the event, Flap sat with Mike Osborn who is the Chairman of the Ventura County Republican Party. We discussed the ongoing technology rebuilding of the county party structure and outreach programs. Flap will have more on this at a later time.

After 90 minutes, the event wrapped up and Senator Strickland was off to his opening of his new California State Senate district office in Santa Barbara later in the day.

Strickland said he will be doing these community events every two weeks or so when the California Legislature is in session.

Poll Watch: Sarah Palin Leads 2012 GOP Presidential Field – Mike Huckabee Second

    Sarah Palin Samaritan Purse

Governor Sarah Palin during her visit with the Samaritans Purse relief effort in rural Alaskan villages (Feb. 20, 2009).

The latest CNN poll is out and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin is leading but within the margin of error with former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee.

The Poll (The CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey was conducted February 18-19, with 429 Republicans questioned by telephone, sampling error = 4.5%):

    • Sarah Palin – 29%
    • Mike Huckabee – 26%
    • Mitt Romney – 21%
    • Bobby Jindal – 9%
    • Someone Else – 10%

Among Republican women, however, Sarah Palin is the clear winner.

“Among GOP men, the same pattern emerges — no clear advantage for Palin, Huckabee or Romney. But among Republican women, it’s a different story. Palin has a 10-point edge among Republican women, winning 32 percent support among them to 22 percent for Huckabee and 20 percent for Romney,” adds Holland. “With the sampling error, that’s not enough to say for sure that Palin is in the lead, but it does indicate that if the primaries were held tomorrow, Palin would have a good chance of being the favorite among GOP women.”

With GOP Presidential primary schedule set to remain the same, Flap anticipates a battle royal in Iowa and South Carolina between Palin and Huckabee.

    But, it is very early.
