SHAME ON YOU: Sarah Palin Strikes Back at Ashley Judd and the Defenders of Wildlife Campaign

From the Eye on Palin Web Site: Exposing Alaska Governor Sarah Palin’s anti-wolf and anti-wildlife agenda

Alaska Governor Sarah Palin responded today to Hollywood Celeb and PDS (Palin Derangement Syndrome) sufferer Ashley Judd’s video above. The video was sponsored by the Defenders of Wildlife Action Fund.

Governor Sarah Palin released the following statement today in response to attacks by the Defenders of Wildlife:

“It is reprehensible and hypocritical that the Defenders of Wildlife would use Alaska and my administration as a fundraising tool to deceive Americans into parting with their hard-earned money.

“The ad campaign by this extreme fringe group, as Alaskans have witnessed over the last several years, distorts the facts about Alaska’s wildlife management programs. Alaskans depend on wildlife for food and cultural practices which can’t be sustained when predators are allowed to decimate moose and caribou populations. Our predator control programs are scientific and successful at protecting vulnerable wildlife. These audacious fundraising attempts misrepresent what goes on in Alaska, and I encourage people to learn the facts about Alaska’s positive record of managing wildlife for abundance.

“Shame on the Defenders of Wildlife for twisting the truth in an effort to raise funds from innocent and hard-pressed Americans struggling with these rough economic times.”

Flap is surprised “The ‘Cuda” didn’t invite Ashley up for a little demonstration of Alaska’s wildlife management program. But, Judd, wouldn’t go anyway because like many LEFT-WING Hollywood types she knows little or nothing about the subject.

Shame on Ashley Judd, indeed.

I presented you with the challenge and all you do is circle around to yourself.
BTW, didn’t you tell another blogger “If you post more than two links, your post goes to moderation”?

  • Flap

I referenced the Anchorage Daily News and Ed Morissey.

I cannot help if you do not understand what an updated post is or what links are.

    Sheesh….

Do you want me to read the material for you too?

If you post more than two links in a comment the post automatically gos to moderation to prevent spam.

  • Flap

Dude, you are spamming the site.

Knock it off or I will ban you.

We were discussing Wolves and Ashley Judd and you are all over the place with climate change and other crap.

    Make a point.

@60 a Campaign Presidential summary piece

@61 UK newspaper piece on Climate Change, the Polar bear and some link to scientists who have been funded by oil companies and there was some sort of correction made in the original piece.

    62. Left-wing blog which references Salon, another left-wing blog.

    @63 LA Times opinion piece.

    Afternoon Flap:}

While it is correct that The program helped the Caribou in that one area.

Sarah did want to give 150 dollars for each foreleg from every wolf that was killed.

    The question though is.

If it was only from wolves that were suppose to be hunted in a certain area, due to decreasing caribou, then it would possibly be justifiable.

If it was for any wolf killed Anywhere a hunter was, then it would Not be Justifiable.

Third: How can a person claim they are Fiscally Responsible when they give out bounty rewards of 150 dollars to every single wolf killed?

    Conclusion
Sarah Tipped her Hand that she does not care about the wolves and would do whatever she wanted to justify what She Wants.
It was not till the courts told her that she was overstepping her powers, and put a halt to her rewarding hunters for killing wolves that her proposal did not go thru.

Here is the background link from Salon while slanted against Palin gives some background information: http://www.salon.com/env/feature/2008/09/08/sarah_palin_wolves/

But, by the looks of the Anchorage Daily News piece Here: http://www.adn.com/wildlife/story/586116.html there has been success with aerial hunting.

Interesting that the program began in the 1940’s before Alaska became a state.

I don’t believe your conclusion can be drawn based on these pieces. But, a certainty is that Palin does care more about the Moose and Caribou populations for a number of reasons.

  • Actongue

I agree in that it is wrong for people to solely put all the blame on Palin for the hunting of wolves by air since it has been in practice for awhile.

Just because there is Success in one aspect of the issue does not make the issue correct though.

A while back there were 14 pups killed by State officials and in part may have led to the outcry that we are seeing now.

  • Flap

That is discussed in the Anchorage Daily piece.

Well, it is a balance of nature: predator vs prey issue.

Killing is never politically correct but ask the Caribou and the people that depend upon them if they think it is the right course of action.

  • Actongue

It has little to do with Sustenance for the people allowed to hunt Caribou so they can live, it has to do with the approach that Sarah and the alaska game board have when it comes to what they want..

    http://www.alaskawolfkill.com/Palin_Letter.html

Now this was starting back in 2003 before Sarah, but everything she has wanted does not deal with helping the balance of Nature.

    More from Slate: http://www.slate.com/id/2199140/

Sarah Palin, the governor of Alaska and John McCain’s vice presidential pick, is an enthusiastic hunter who has proposed legislation and cash incentives to encourage aerial wolf gunning, the controversial practice of shooting wolves from an aircraft. Do people in Alaska really shoot wolves from planes?

Yes, but only with the government’s permission. Aerial shooting yields better results than traditional hunting, since it allows the hunter to cover a lot of ground quickly and track target animals from a clear vantage point. Historically, hunters also used planes to drive animals—polar bears in Alaska and elk in Montana, among others—toward gunmen waiting on the ground. But many hunters found the practice unsportsmanlike, since it violates the “fair chase” ethic, and animal rights activists call it inhumane, since airborne gunmen rarely get a clean (i.e., relatively painless) kill. In response to concerns like these, Congress passed the Federal Airborne Hunting Act of 1972, which made it illegal for hunters to shoot animals from a plane or helicopter.

The federal legislation (PDF) does have a loophole for predator control, permitting state employees or licensed individuals to shoot from an aircraft for the sake of protecting “land, water, wildlife, livestock, domesticated animals, human life, or crops.” (This doesn’t just apply to wolves; coyotes and foxes are sometimes gunned down from aircraft, especially in Western states.) Since 2003, Alaska has issued aerial wolf-hunting permits in select areas where moose and caribou populations are particularly endangered. The idea is that by killing the predators, the airborne gunmen can ramp up the number of moose and caribou that human hunters can take home for supper.

    This is for more background.

    And, why the Bounty?

    Link: http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/wildlife/wolves/story/205436.html

The state is offering incentives for people who kill wolves in an effort to boost Alaska’s predator control program, which so far has failed to meet expected numbers.

“Several factors have led to a low wolf take this winter, so we’re going to step up our efforts to meet the annual objectives in this important program,” Commissioner Denby Lloyd with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game said in a statement Wednesday.

The program, now in its fourth year and operating in five areas of the state, is designed to increase moose and caribou numbers by reducing the number of predators.

The incentives include offering 180 volunteer pilots and aerial gunners $150 in cash for turning in legs of freshly killed wolves, Gov. Sarah Palin’s office announced Tuesday.

The state will use the left forelegs of wolves as biological specimens, which can help biologists determine wolf age and will assist the program in the future, Lloyd said. […]
The Palin administration is anteing up cash because the number of wolf kills this winter is behind schedule. State biologists wanted 382 to 664 wolves killed by the time the snow that helps with tracking disappears this spring. The predator-control season ends April 30.

As of Tuesday morning, 98 wolves had been killed by aerial gunners, hunters and trappers.

  • Flap

    @71

Actually, the program goes back further than 2003.

I don’t think you can say Governor Palin has supported programs that don’t help the balance of nature because as the Anchorage Daily News piece points out – It does.

First off…the Anchorage Daily News is a LIBERAL/Democratic Obama loving news rag….ALWAYS HAS BEEN…so anything written up there is TRASH and not much more than the National Enquirer or the Globe lol…..

If you google it you will find there are Alaskans in DIRE need of food….I just read an article the other night. It told the story of a family in a remote Alaskan town with no store and they had to use a snowmobile for a nearly two hour drive to the nearest store where like a gallon of milk is ten dollars…..cheese is like fifteen dollars ect….THIS IS WHY people DEPEND on the moose and caribou for food….IT WAS WRITTEN UP IN A LIBERAL NEWSCOLUMN/PAPER ALSO…..SO its not like the news was SUPPORTING SARAH in ANY way !!!! Many tribes and others live in remote areas of Alaska …of course EVEN IF you don’t….the weather, ice and snow ect is no piece of cake !!!! BUT THERE ARE REASONS people DEPEND on wildlife for food there !!!! It is harder to get supplies into there and things are VERY EXPENSIVE if you DO buy them …..

The ONLY part of the issue that I DO AGREE WITH IS….they should STOP outside hunting and keep the hunting to IN STATE ONLY….since the people need the food for survival…..NO OUTSOURCING OF HUNTING should be allowed ….

I am an animal freak and don’t like ANY animal to be unnecessarily killed….but yes, I eat meat….and I realize that for certain reasons it becomes a necessity…..not that I “LIKE” that either….but…..some things have to happen….

Ashley Judd is an activist loonie…..an avid Obama lover and has “real morals” let me tell ya !!!! Anyone who would MAKE PUBLIC SHE DOESNT WEAR UNDERWEAR…..certainly would win my approval of instilling HER MORALS on what is RIGHT AND WRONG ON ANYONE right? NOT !!!!! She is just another Obama Hollywood sleazeball trying to discredit Sarah….

FYI….hunting to decrease populations has always been allowed…its why they have “deer seasons” and other things….this is similar but for somewhat different reasons. What if the wolves ran OUT of caribou and moose and began attacking PEOPLE….would you liberal activists promote killing them then? There HAS to some balance you guys…..whether you “like” the killing or not. I wish they would relocate the wolves or something….but honestly….WHERE would you take them to that doesnt have ENOUGH already? So that you dont overpopulate there too? Wolves being a predator makes the decision even more difficult….

The media will NEVER tell you ALL THE FACTS, just like they DIDNT TELL YOU THE FACTS ABOUT OBAMA EITHER……WHEN WILL PEOPLE STOP TRUSTING HOLLYWOOD AND THE MEDIA FOR FACTS?

    Char inOhio

That is exactly why Palin is being hamstrung by people in Alaska for her Inaction until recently in regards to the People of Emmonak and other SE Alaskan inhabitants

http://www.themudflats.net/?s=emmonak Mudlfats while it maybe on the left side of the Spectrum has been working and getting people to donate to help the same people for a while now. Sarah and her Adminsitration have neglected. This same Sarah yes the Palin took steps to reduce the amount of days Sustinance hunters can Fish and Hunt all to allow more Big Game Hunting.

once again so you know what you are Talking about please remember it is only Aerial Wolf Hunting.

BTW do some research and you will find that there have been no Wolf Attacks in the US or Canada since late 2006.
If you also listen to what Ashley says she sounds way more intelligent then Sarah and speaks way better.

If you actually would listen to what Ashely Judd is talking about she is not saying stop all wolf killing but Stop only aerial hunting of them. That and to quit killing Wolf Pups in their den.

  • Actongue

    http://mudflats.wordpress.com/2008/09/25/on-palin-and-wolves/

This talks about the Aerial wolf hunting and the fact that Alaskans have voted twice in the past to stop killing them by air. The State of Alaska though went agaisnt the vote of the people and reversed the voters Decision

Now to be fair to Sarah this took place before she came into office but that does not mean she should do the wrong thing and continue it.

2008 the vote went out again to the voters however……………………
She also deliberately worded it so she could decieve the voters into allowing it and spent 400,000 dollars on propganda so it would continue.

    Quote

With all of this history, we should have been prepared to deal with a Palin Administration hell bent on killing wolves. She and I were “raised by the same wolves”, and she wants to shoot them out of planes. She stacked the Alaska Board of Game with pro-aerial wolf hunters. She was successful at merging faulty science, Safari Club International interests and state funded propaganda.

Her support has nothing to do with Sustinace hunting and all to do with Big Game hunting for trophies to hang on the wall.
