Mitt Romney’s Classless CPAC Remarks Aimed at Sarah Palin

Mitt Romney at 2009 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC)

At CPAC this past weekend, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney took a jaded swipe at Alaska Governor Sarah Palin who did not attend.

There are so many conservative leaders here this weekend. I was looking forward to seeing Governor Palin again. There’s a rumor that she has been offered an 11-million- dollar book contract. My publisher has been talking to me about an 11-millon-dollar deal as well. I’m just not sure I can come up with that kind of money.

Both Romney and Palin may be running for President in 2012 but this reminds voters why Romney did so poorly in 2008.

Remember the personal attacks/TV ads against Mike Huckabee, Rudy Giuliani and John McCain in the Presidential primary elections?

Hey Mitt, lay off the CLASSLESS remarks about fellow Republicans.

Romney combines the worst elements of the Bush campaign with the worst aspects of a super rich man in Boston politics, and the sum of it, as represented by Romney, is worse than both. He doesn’t have the killer instinct of the Bush machine, but he’swilling to adopt the sliming and underhand tactics. He’s rich but he’s ashamed of his wealth. Sooner we get these dinosaurs out of the mix for 2012, better it will be for the party.

Cardboard Mitt should go home and spend his time counting his money. He will never be President since most people see through him as a plastic, opportunistic politician. He is a rich boy who does not connect with the folks.

Man, FF! You have got to be really hard up for ways to discredit Mitt Romney if you have to resort to implying that THAT joke was an insult. It’s called self-deprecating humor – ever hear of it?

He implies that the highly popular Sarah Palin has publishers clamoring to PAY HER 11 million to publish her book but publishers are demanding that he, the much less popular Mitt Romney, pay THEM the 11 million to publish his.

How could anybody possibly construe that joke as an insult to Sarah Palin? It was actually a compliment for pete’s sake!

Goodness, one of the things I like about conservatives is that they have much better senses of humor than liberals. Obviously the trait isn’t universally shared – YIKES! It might be time for you to consider huffing a little of that laughing gas you dentists keep on hand for patients yourself!

  • Flap

Yes I have heard of it.

And, call them the way I see them.

Mitt Romney would be better to stay away from any humor involving other GOP candidates because his track record of violating the Republican 11th commandment rubs alot of folks the wrong way.

Also, please read my terms of use above.

Hoo-boy! I read ya – loud & clear, Flap! No dissension allowed here, so I won’t trouble you with any disagreement again.

  • Ferd

FF, I agree with Leilani. It wasn’t a classless remark, or some rich guy counting his money and looking down his nose at the little people. (Class warfare is now affecting Conservatives?! Guh!) He’s clearly saying he would have to cough up $11 million to get someone to publish his book. A compliment to Gov. Palin.

I thought Romney’s entire speech was outstanding in every respect, for its clear defense of free market capitalism, to its critique of Obama’s early foreign policy moves, all delivered without resentment or rancor.

The joke at the beginning was hardly a knock on Palin – it was a self-deprecating knock on Romney.

What’s really interesting is that the voting for the straw poll ended before Romney gave his speech, but after people like Huckabee and Newt Gingrich had spoken to the crowd. That means Romney walked in as the favorite of the crowd. His status as the leader of the conservative movement was only enhanced further by his magnificent speech.

    I loved it!!

Leilani +1. It was self-deprecating humor.

I for one don’t believe it went over the head. I believe the unwillingness to see the obvious was intentional.

I’m guessing if you can’t pick zits, you have to resort to picking fights with Mitt Romney.

    You go, girl.

  • Flap

Looks to me that Mitt Romney was picking a fight with Sarah Palin.

Didn’t Mitt’s mother teach him: “If you do not have something nice to say about a person, you don’t say it at all?”

Romney did not have to say anything about Sarah Palin’s book deal, but he did and deserves criticism.

    Same ol’ Mitt.

  • cany

FlaP: have to agree with leilani here. I don’t like either Mitt or Sarah, so I don’t have an ax to grind either way.

  • Irish Right

Flap must be getting his Romney talking points from the Huckabee folks. How sad to see such an intentional misconstruing of a remark by someone who would like to be taken seriously; i.e., Flap.

  • Flap

    No, sorry.

I am not a big fan of Mike Huckabee. But, I would vote for him over Mitt Romney if I had to make a choice.

    Love that Chuck Norris guy.

And, by the way, I am taken seriously and that is why all of the Romney bots are coming here to try to excuse Mitt classless conduct.

Now, Mitt could apologize and say he misspoke.

What’s wrong with the GOP having an intelligent, articulate presidential candidate who not only has the background to turn our failing economy around, but has enough of a sense of humor that he can laugh at himself and his own wealth which was honestly earned by building financially solvent companys? Dahhhh!

  • Judy Weindorf

Why does anyone mention Sarah Palin? And, there’s certainly a lot who do. She was the one who threw herself into the limelight. You can’t tell me she doesn’t enjoy the publicity.
