Is Meghan McCain RIGHT About the State of the Republican Party?

Meghan McCain, the 24 year old daughter of Senator John McCain discusses the state of the Republican Party

Meghan McCain the daughter of Senator John McCain has been all over the talk show circuit bemoaning the state of the GOP.

    Is she RIGHT?

Or, is she parroting her Tina Brown sponsored left-wing cohorts over at The Daily Beast, known to love/support faux-conservatives (ala Chris Buckley and Barack Obama).

Or, better yet, is Meghan a chip off the ol’ MAVERICK block?

    Flap’s take is this:

Meghan is young, not particularly well educated and comes from a life of privilege. She is not your typical  24 year old except that she wants to be accepted by her peers (as she whines on TV, no less, that she cannot get a date).

Meghan is from the generation of political correctness and Comedy Central shows are news. She expresses a generational angst and frustration but to think she is any future voice of the Republican Party is to fail to consider the source.

But, the left-wing MSM just loves to hear this crap and kick the GOP with it when it is down.

Ken Blackwell Comes Out With a Long Knife for Michael Steele; Update: Mike Huckabee is troubled by Steele Abortion Comments

    +++++Update+++++

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee expresses his disappointment with Michael Steele

Comments attributed to Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele are very troubling and despite his clarification today the party stands to lose many of its members and a great deal of its support in the trenches of grassroots politics. Since 1980, our party has been steadfast and principled in believing in the dignity and worth of every human life. We have supported a Constitutional amendment to protect life and the party
has taken the position that no one individual has the supreme right to own another person in totality including the right to take that life. For Chairman Steele to even infer that taking a life is totally left up to the individual is not only a reversal of Republican policy and principle, but it’s a violation of the most basic of human rights–the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. His statement today helps, but doesn’t explain why he would ever say what he did in the first place.

    RNC-Chairman-jan-29

The Republican National Committee Chairman field, January 2009

Right now, Mike Duncan does NOT look so bad.

You know the Flap over RNC Chairman Michael Steele’s interview with GQ and his comments on abortion – after the disaster of criticizing Rush Limbaugh and equating the GOP convention attendess with Nazis.

    Ken Blackwell:

“Chairman Steele, as the leader of America’s Pro-Life conservative party, needs to re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform. He then needs to get to work — or get out of the way.”

Flap would say that Steele is on a very short leash, remembering Ken Blackwell’s endorsement of Steele is what lead Steele to victory over Katon Dawson.

The long GOP knives are out for Steele.

Obama Considers Taxing Worker’s Health Care Benefits

Obama Campaign Ad: “It Gets Worse” highlights that first we learned John McCain wanted to tax health care benefits to pay for part of his health care plan, and now the Wall Street Journal reports that McCain would pay for the rest of his plan by making “major reductions to Medicare and Medicaid,” eight hundred and eighty two billion from Medicare alone. We simply can’t afford John McCain.

Say it isn’t so. Obama who heavily criticised John McCain just a few months ago about his health care plan is considering the EXACT same thing – taxing worker’s health benefits.

So far, administration officials have been careful not to endorse the idea, which Obama blasted as a major tax increase last year after Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) made it the centerpiece of his presidential campaign’s health plan. But the president hasn’t slammed the door on it, either.

This week, White House budget director Peter Orszag said taxing employer benefits was among several ideas that “most firmly should remain on the table.” White House economic adviser Jason Furman called for an end to the so-called “employer exclusion” before he joined the administration. Meanwhile, some congressional Democrats say the White House has signaled that Obama would accept a tax on employer benefits as long as he didn’t have to propose it himself.

Flap remembers these campaign ads tearing up the airwaves in Nevada over the summer. But, here we have…. Another case where Obama’s campaign statements come with an expiration date.

Poll Watch: 55 Per Cent Opposed to New Economic Stimulus Plan

The latest Rasmussen Poll shows little American voter support for a new Economic Stimulus bill.

Just 27% of voters nationwide favor passage of a second economic stimulus package. The latest Rasmussen Reports nationwide telephone survey found that 55% are opposed and 19% are not sure.

Despite the public opposition, 74% say it’s likely that Congress will try to pass another stimulus plan before the year is out. That figure includes 45% who say it’s Very Likely that Congress will do so.

The Obama/Democrats realize the first $ Trillion PORKULUS Stimulus Law will do LITTLE to increase jobs – as the GOP in Congress maintained all along.

So, they will give it a second go, when the economy does not dramatically improve.

But, who will pay for all of the spending?

Obama Considers Deploying National Guard Troops Along USA – Mexico Border

    Obama-and-troops-to-Mexico

    Really?

Obama does feel it is unacceptable that Mexican drug cartel thugs are crossing the USA – Mexico border and killing Americans?

“We’re going to examine whether and if National Guard deployments would make sense and under what circumstances they would make sense,” Obama said during an interview with journalists for regional papers, including a McClatchy reporter.

“I don’t have a particular tipping point in mind,” he said. “I think it’s unacceptable if you’ve got drug gangs crossing our borders and killing U.S. citizens.”

President Bush did NOT protect the borders and millions crossed illegally straining America’s social fabric and resources. But, NOW Obama will deploy troops to deter a few drug dealers?

    Flap doesn’t believe it.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Warns of “Valley of Doom”

    arnold march 6 2009

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger congratulates Iris Kyle after she won the Miss International body building competition during the Arnold Sports Festival Friday, March 6, 2009, in Columbus, Ohio

The California State budge is a mess and Arnold Schwarzenegger has accomplished nothing in his six plus years in office to reform the process. The economy is in a meltdown with high levels of unemployment. In the meantime, post-partisan Arnold has participated in massive spending and tax increases for Californians

Arnold has NO credibility left and his special election (May 19, 2009) tax measures will FAIL – despite speech hyperbole“Valley of Doom,” indeed.

Michael Steele – Abortion, Gay Marriage – The GQ Interview

    steele

    Republican National Chairman Michael Steele

The Michael Steele GQ interview is here.

Some conservatives may NOT like it but Flap understands what Steele is doing – It is called OUTREACH.

On the other hand, it is Steele’s inconsistencies on the abortion question and OTHERS that have some wondering what utility Steele brings to the national GOP and Republican National Committee.

I have seen the man speak with conviction and passion at conservative events and leave everyone mightily impressed, but now we have to wonder whether Steele just tailored the message for the audience, as he appears to have done with Hughley and GQ.  I don’t necessarily buy that, as he has easier ways to get media air time than being in the Republican Party, but it’s hard not to ask the question these days.

One thing is certain: he’s a lot less media savvy than most of us thought.  And since he doesn’t seem to have much skill in organization, we have to ask ourselves why we should support his continued tenure as RNC chair.

Looks like to Flap that Michael Steele is a good pitchman on television and sells himself well, but that is all. California had that problem with Arnold Schwarzenegger – much to its later detriment.

Day By Day by Chris Muir March 12, 2009 – Communication

    day by day 031209

Day By Day by Chris Muir

What started as a Bush Administration policy to protect Presidential succession after 9/11 has turned very WRONG with the Diva-type abuse by Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has gone from frequent flier to jet-aircraft connoisseur, with aides berating military officials to get the best planes, e-mails revealed yesterday.

Pelosi, who clashed with the military to get nonstop service when she flies home to California with police protection on government planes, revealed a particular fondness for Gulfstream’s sleek G-5 – a plane glamorized in Hollywood films and rap videos.

“It is my understanding there are no G-5s available for the House during the Memorial Day recess. This is totally unacceptable . . . The speaker will want to know where the planes are,” a Pelosi aide wrote in an angry e-mail to the military.

In another, the same aide wanted the plane for a House delegation when the fleet was being used for senators and Cabinet members.

“This is not good news, and we will have some very disappointed folks, as well as a very upset speaker,” the e-mail said.

The military was offering up an Air Force version of a Boeing 737.

The e-mails were obtained from the government by the watchdog group Judicial Watch.

Sorry, but Speaker Pelosi can simply make do with the Boeing 737 for her trips back to California on the weekend. Why the federal government has a fleet of G-5’s for use by government officials is a question in itself.

The Obama Administration must answer the question as to who has use of these planes and why?

    • Meanwhile, there’s another source of gay marriages that the justices didn’t ask about, but which will arise if Prop. 8 and existing gay marriages are both upheld.

Will those performed in Massachusetts, Connecticut, and abroad be recognized if the couples move to California? (Canada, Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, Norway and South Africa all perform gay marriages).

    • Rarely do we write about initiatives before they’ve been circulated for signatures but this one seemed too interesting to pass up. Secretary of State Debra Bowen’s office reported this morning that it has approved, for signature gathering, an initiative that would replace the term “marriage” with “domestic partnership” but preserves the rights of marriage.

This clearly refers to what we heard Supreme Court Justice Ming Chin ask during last week’s oral arguments on Prop. 8. Chin asked both supporters and opponents of the gay marriage ban whether the debate would be resolved if the state got out of the marriage business and instead joined couples, gay or straight, in civil partnerships. Both sides said yes.

    • Residents of the not-so-Golden State have reached their deepest level of pessimism over the California economy in more than three decades.

According to a new Field Poll, 96 percent of registered voters now believe the state's economy is in bad times – the highest negative reading in the poll's 31 years of surveying attitudes on the economy.

"How bad is it?" said Field Poll director Mark DiCamillo. "It's nearly unanimous. When you ask people about the future, they're glum, and they're either saying the economy is going to stay the same or it is going to get worse."

    • How much of your pro-life stance, for you, is informed not just by your Catholic faith but by the fact that you were adopted?

Oh, a lot. Absolutely. I see the power of life in that—I mean, and the power of choice! The thing to keep in mind about it… Uh, you know, I think as a country we get off on these misguided conversations that throw around terms that really misrepresent truth.

      Explain that.

The choice issue cuts two ways. You can choose life, or you can choose abortion. You know, my mother chose life. So, you know, I think the power of the argument of choice boils down to stating a case for one or the other.

Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion?

Yeah. I mean, again, I think that’s an individual choice.

      You do?

      Yeah. Absolutely.

More controversy swirls around Michael Steele.

    • In addition to his already disclosed past membership in the all-white Forest Lake Country Club, Dawson was also an officer in 2004 of a social club, the Camellia Ball (which holds events at the Forest Lake Country Club). According to information obtained by Pajamas Media (including photos), the Camellia Ball is an exclusive social organization with no minority members, which presents débutantes to South Carolina society. According to a source familiar with the Camellia Ball, there is no explicit all white charter, although it has been all white “by tradition, choice and practice.”

When asked for comment specifically about membership in the Camellia Ball, the Dawson camp repeatedly refused to respond one way or the other to the report, contending that it was just “gossip.” Those refusals to respond were followed by two emails from the executive director of the South Carolina GOP, Jay W. Ragley, challenging the decision to run the story, but which also refused to address the substance

    • Proponents of a new initiative want to substitute the term “domestic partnership” where “marriage” is now used in California law.
The initiative seeks to sidestep the issue of legalizing same-sex marriage by calling marriage by the term gays and lesbians in a civil contract use.

As reported on mydesert.com, California Secretary of State Debra Bowen, the state's top election official, announced Tuesday that proponents could begin collecting signatures.

The announcements came in the wake of oral arguments last week when the state Supreme Court weighed in on Proposition 8, the same-sex marriage ban approved by 52 percent of voters statewide in November.

      (tags: gaymarriage)
    • That case (Bartlett v. Strickland) was decided this week and, as expected, Justice Anthony Kennedy, a Californian, was the swing vote, declaring the law "does not require state officials to draw election district lines to allow a racial minority that would make up less than 50 percent of the voting-age population in the redrawn district to join with crossover voters to elect the minority's candidate of choice."

It means, in effect, that the "communities of interest" mandate of Proposition 11 would take precedence over drawing districts likely to favor black candidates in California when their voting-age populations are less than 50 percent. And that, in turn, could mean that the shrinking ranks of African American politicians could be shriveling some more.

    • Forget apology-seeking letters. Maybe Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman should send President Barack Obama a bill.

On Tuesday, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported 340 event cancellations in the past 90 days, a situation it said has cost the local economy about $131.6 million in lost spending.
The rampant flaking on Las Vegas business trips coincides with the dramatic tanking of the global economy and has accelerated more recently with public scoldings dished out by Obama and other politicians to bailout-seeking businesses considering Sin City getaways.

The cancellation of conventions and business meetings has cost local resorts 111,800 guests and 236,700 room nights and untold amounts of casino betting; the $131.6 million figure represents non-gambling spending only.
