United States Senate Passes Rep. Elton Gallegly Bill Honoring President Ronald Reagan

    ronald reagan

    From the press release:

The U.S. Senate late Tuesday passed a bill by U.S. Rep. Elton Gallegly (R-Ventura & Santa Barbara Counties) to honor President Ronald Reagan on the 100th anniversary of his birth.

The Senate passed the bill by unanimous consent. On March 9, the House passed it on a 371-19 vote, with one Member voting present. The bill now goes to President Obama for his signature.

The Ronald Reagan Centennial Commission Act will create an 11-member commission that will plan and carry out activities deemed fitting to honor Ronald Reagan on his 100th birthday, which will be on Feb. 6, 2011.

The commission will make recommendations and provide necessary assistance for federal, state and local governmental agencies and civic groups to honor President Reagan’s 100th birthday. Such activities could include special stamps or coins. In addition, the commission will recommend to Congress activities to honor President Reagan’s 100th birthday, including the possible convening of a Joint Session of Congress.

No federal money can be spent on the commission or its activities.

“The bipartisan support for the commission says a lot about how President Reagan’s impact on U.S. and international affairs continues to be felt today,” Gallegly said. “President Reagan inspired greatness in the nation he loved. Celebrating his life and accomplishments is a celebration of America.”

Gallegly also noted that it’s fitting that the legislation passed in time for the unveiling of President Reagan’s statue in the U.S. Capitol Rotunda on June 3. Former first lady Nancy Reagan will attend the ceremony.

Flap will be looking forward to the festivities next February 6th at the Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California.

Is Senator Dianne Feinstein Smoking Crack? California Prisons “Eminently Capable” of Holding Gitmo Detainees

California U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein on the floor of the Senate today

Hell, Dianne, you are so out of touch and out of California so much you probably don’t even know where the damn California prisons are.

No thank you, we Californians don’t want any of the GITMO terrorist folks in our state.

    Why?

Because they will be placed in OUR neighborhoods – not yours but OURS.

By the way, after her little suck up to the LEFT Senator Feinstein voted to withhold funding for moving the Gitmo terrorists out of Guantanamo Bay because Obama had “NO PLAN.”

Sign of the Times: Man Uses Gun to Reclaim False Teeth

He paid for them and wanted them back – as if the false teeth would do him any good.

So authorities say Staten Island resident Joseph Nativo, 47, pulled a revolver on his former business associate and took them.

Nativo, a contractor who lives on the 200 block of Shirley Avenue in Eltingville, is accused of slamming the revolver down on a desk at his business, Atec Contracting on 360 Targee St. in Stapleton on May 7, then demanding that 40-year-old Gennario Sibbio take the chompers out of his mouth and hand them over.

He also demanded Sibbio give up $1,200 in cash, two cell phones, a Bluetooth wireless device and his jacket.

Nativo tells it differently, though — sure, he demanded the teeth back, since he paid for them in the first place, but he never pulled out a gun.

Police referred to Sibbio as Nativo’s “former business partner,” but Nativo characterizes him as an ex-worker who stole from the company.

“He’s not my partner. He’s my employee,” Nativo said. “I fired him, let him go. I paid for his new teeth to be put in… I told him to leave the company. I asked for my teeth back.”

And, what the hell is he going to do with the chompers?

    Good grief……

Poll Watch: 50 Per Cent Say More Taxes on Alcohol OK to Fund Universal Health Care

But, 40 per cent say no.

Fifty percent (50%) of Americans favor increasing taxes on beer, wine and other alcoholic beverages to help provide health insurance for every one in the country.

Forty percent (40%) are against such tax increases, and 10% are not sure in a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.

Fifty-nine percent (59%) of women support more taxes on alcohol, compared to 42% of men. Both men and women under the age of 40 are more supportive of higher taxes on alcoholic beverages than their elders.

Sixty-two percent (62%) of Democrats think an increase in so-called “sin taxes” on alcohol is a good idea, but 54% of Republicans disagree. Adults not affiliated with either major party are closely divided on the question.

But, the problem with sin taxes is that consumption may decrease as the taxes increase. So, overall tax revenue may remain flat. The government cannot really rally an expensive Obbamacare restructing of the American health care system based on beer and wine sales.

Then, there is the problem of bootlegging from Mexico and the soverignity of the American Indian reservations where folks won’t pay any tax at all.

Raising sin taxes to fund Obamacare or socialized medicine = FAIL.

Iran Tests New Sajjil-2 Surface to Surface Solid Fuel Missile – Threatens Israel and Southeastern Europe

Iran has test fired a new ballistic missile, Sajjil-2, with a range of 1200 miles, far enough to hit Israel and southeastern Europe

Iran has tested a new missle today with a range that threatens Israel.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran test-fired a new advanced missile Wednesday with a range of about 1,200 miles, far enough to strike Israel, southeastern Europe and U.S. bases in the Middle East.

The announcement will not reassure the U.S. government, coming just two days after President Barack Obama declared a readiness to seek deeper international sanctions against Iran if it shunned U.S. attempts to open negotiations on its nuclear program. Obama said he expected a positive response to his outreach for opening a dialogue with Iran by the end of the year.

“Defense Minister (Mostafa Mohammad Najjar) has informed me that the Sajjil-2 missile, which has very advanced technology, was launched from Semnan and it landed precisely on the target,” state radio quoted Ahmadinejad as saying. He spoke during a visit to the city of Semnan, 125 miles east of the capital Tehran, where Iran’s space program is centered.

Ahmadinejad is running for re-election in a June 12 vote and has been criticized by his opponents and others for antagonizing the U.S. and mismanaging the country’s faltering economy.

Most Western analysts believe Iran does not yet have the technology to produce nuclear weapons, including warheads for long-range missiles. A group of U.S. and Russian scientists said in a report issued Tuesday that Iran could produce a simple nuclear device in one to three years and a nuclear warhead in another five years after that.

Does anyone have the feeling that the United States and Europe are fiddling around with Iran as it develops a viable nuclear missile program?  And, Russia and China are facilitating it.

Time to avoid a nuclear confrontation is wasting away.

The Obligatory California Voters Sink Special Election Budget Propositions Post

    ca-tax-revolt

The intent of California voters is clear as all California budget measures failed at the polls yesterday.

California is currently saddled with at least a $21 Billion budget shortfall.

An angry electorate soundly defeated a slate of special election budget measures Tuesday, a decision that left Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers holding virtually nothing but a scalpel to deal with California’s $21.3 billion shortfall.

Schwarzenegger, who dropped Election Day campaigning to attend a White House announcement on new auto fuel standards, was scheduled to return Wednesday to meet with legislators and discuss options for the budget.

    Now what?

The “big five” elected leaders — Schwarzenegger and the legislative chieftains from both houses — are slated to begin closed-door meetings today upon the governor’s return from Washington, where he spent election day after casting a last-minute absentee ballot.

On Thursday a small group of Senate and Assembly members will hold the first of what’s expected to be a slew of daily public sessions to wrangle over the details of the budget.

Schwarzenegger has called for cuts that would hit every corner of the state. He announced plans to lay off 5,000 of the state’s 235,000 workers and has proposed slashing education by up to $5 billion, selling state properties, borrowing $2 billion from local governments and potentially reducing eligibility for healthcare programs.

California voters are disgusted with the Pols of both parties who have taxed and spent the state into insolvency. There can be no more tax increases and so there will be cuts in programs and layoffs. Perhaps the feds and President Obama will bailout California with some funds, but, likely state employees and the schools will take the biggest hits.

As for the political climate, voters are angry and more angry than anytime since 1978 and Proposition 13. Look for a series of initiatives reining in the Democrat dominated California Legislature for 2010 and more intense scrutiny of candidates who will replace Governor Schwarzenegger next year.

Anti-tax and spend sentiment is brewing and will intensify over the summer.

Will it spread across the country, next Fall?

Ventura County Political Fight of Joel Angeles Headed to Court

This politically motivated criminal prosecution for battery against Jose “Joel” Angeles who is Assemblywoman Audra Strickland’s, R-Moorpark, Chief of Staff is headed to Ventura County Superior court on June 18, 2009.

Flap first wrote about the case almost a year ago.

Flap was there and wrote this post after the altercation/protests and the fundraising event for Assemblywoman Audra Strickland’s husband, Tony.

The entire Flap was and continues to be a “He Said, They Said” argument. Flap did not see the supposed “smack down”
but did interview one of the female alleged victims. She did have
scratches on her right arm which she said she received by being pushed
    into an adjoining hedge.

But, the hedge had sharp prongs, the sidewalk was filled with people
and Flap was easily pushed into it and scratched his own arm.

Ventura County Sheriff officers interviewed all parties and since none of the parties would pursue prosecution or a citizen’s arrest, no arrests were made.

Democratic Party activists of Ventura County tried to sink the candidacy of now, newly elected GOP California State Senator Tony Strickland by creating a row out in front of his fundraising event with Mitt Romney. But, it didn’t work and Strickland was elected by a narrow margin in a closely contested race.

But, this case has dragged on by the outrageous claims of the 69 year old President of the Camarillo Democratic Club and the dogged prosecution by partisan Demcorat Attorney General Jerry Brown’s office.

This case is going nowhere (unless an outright acquittal or dismissal) and does anyone bet that there will be some sort of plea deal on the courthouse steps?

If not, the question will be: Why is Jerry Brown, the Democrat Attorney General who will run for Governor in 2010 wasting taxpayers dollars on a politcal prosecution?

    Stay tuned……

Day By Day by Chris Muir May 20, 2009 – The View

    day by day 052009

Day By Day by Chris Muir

Chris, you can bet the GOP is accumulating all of the Obama promises and flips to use in the Congressional midterm elections in 2010. There is no doubt that Obama statements have an expiration date and what he says one day may indeed change the next week.

Should the economy remain stagnant into the Fall, all of Obama’s incantations of “change” will fall flat and his fellow Democrats will be running for cover after Labor Day as they face re-election prospects.

    • Sneed has learned the Merchandise Mart’s Chris Kennedy, son of the late U.S. Sen. Robert F. Kennedy, will announce next week he is running for the U.S. Senate.

Sneed has also learned Kennedy, who lives with his wife, Sheila, and four children in Kenilworth, has hired the prestigious media consultant firm AKPD and has already shot his first TV campaign commercial.

AKPD was founded by President Obama’s senior adviser David Axelrod. Axelrod divested himself of the firm when he took the White house job.

Kennedy will be running for Obama’s old Senate seat, now held by Roland Burris, the beleaguered appointee of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich.

    • Staunch pro-life House conservatives have “renewed hope” that the president will reinstate Bush-era regulations protecting the rights of doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers who choose not to give abortions.

In light of the president’s speech on the divisive topic at Notre Dame over the weekend, House GOP lawmakers James Sensenbrenner Jr. (Wis.), Chris Smith (N.J.) and John Fleming (La.) sent a letter to the White House on Tuesday praising Obama for saying that he wanted to “honor the conscience of those who disagree with abortion.”
“We agree with you that pro-life healthcare providers should have the right to refuse to participate in procedures that they find morally reprehensible,” the lawmakers state in the letter.

Sensenbrenner explained to reporters that in March, Obama's administration set in motion a process that would do away with "conscience protection laws" instituted under former President George W. Bush.

    • The Obama administration has decided to accept an appeals-court ruling that could undermine the military's ban on service members found to be gay.

A federal appeals court in San Francisco last year ruled that the government must justify the expulsion of a decorated officer solely because she is a lesbian. The court rejected government arguments that the law banning gays in the military should have a blanket application, and that officials shouldn't be required to argue the merits in her individual case.

The administration let pass a May 3 deadline to appeal to the Supreme Court. That means the case will be returned to the district court, and administration officials said they will continue to defend the law there.

The move "takes the issue off the front burner," as a trial and subsequent appeals could take years before the question returns to the Supreme Court, said an official familiar with the matter.

    • Battered by recriminations over waterboarding and other harsh techniques sanctioned by the Bush administration, the CIA is girding itself for more public scrutiny and is questioning whether agency personnel can conduct interrogations effectively under rules set out for the U.S. military, according to senior intelligence officials.

Harsh interrogations were only one part of its clandestine activities against al-Qaeda and other enemies, and agency members are worried that other operations in Afghanistan and Pakistan will come under review, the officials said.

    • The Obama administration is expanding a program initiated by President George W. Bush aimed at checking the immigration status of virtually every person booked into local jails. In four years, the measure could result in a tenfold increase in illegal immigrants who have been convicted of crimes and identified for deportation, current and former U.S. officials said.

By matching inmates' fingerprints to federal immigration databases, authorities hope to pinpoint deportable illegal immigrants before they are released from custody. Inmates in federal and state prisons already are screened. But authorities generally lack the time and staff to do the same at local jails, which house up to twice as many illegal immigrants at any time and where inmates come and go more quickly.

    • General Motors Corp's (GM.N) plan for a bankruptcy filing involves a quick sale of the company's healthy assets to a new company initially owned by the U.S. government, a source familiar with the situation said on Tuesday.

The source, who would not be named because he was not cleared to speak with the media, did not specify a purchase price. The new company is expected to honor the claims of secured lenders, possibly in full, according to the source.

The remaining assets of GM would stay in bankruptcy protection to satisfy other outstanding claims.

GM has about $6 billion in secured debt, including a secured revolving credit and bank debt.

    • The Pentagon says it has no plans to repeal the don't ask-don't tell policy for gay troops.

Pentagon spokesman Geoff Morrell said Tuesday that the military's top leaders have only had initial discussions with the White House about whether gay troops should be open about their sexuality.

Under current rules, openly gay troops can be discharged from the U.S. military.

Morrell said the White House has not asked for the 1993 policy to be scrapped.
