A Pinal County Sheriff's deputy was shot in the stomach Friday by an undocumented immigrant off Interstate 8, according sheriff's officials.
Lt. Tami Villar told 12 News that the search and rescue deputy was investigating a load of marijuana in the desert and was confronted by five suspects. She also said the wounded deputy is expected to survive.
Deputies believe at least two people were armed with long guns and at least one handgun. The deputy, whose name was not released, was patrolling alone in what is considered a high-traffic drug and human-smuggling corridor.
Villar said the deputy radioed dispatch about 4:30 p.m. to say he had been shot off Interstate 8 and Arizona 84, but he could not be found when authorities arrived at the scene.

And, people condemn the Arizona Governor and legislators? -
Former Manson Family follower Bruce Davis, who was convicted in connection with two killings in 1969, should not be released from prison, as a parole board panel recommended, Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley told Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today.
In a letter to the governor, Cooley wrote that he believes that Davis "continues to minimize, rationalize and offer excuses" for his roles in the July 25, 1969, stabbing death of musician Gary Hinman in his Topanga Canyon home and the slaying of Donald "Shorty" Shea a month later.

Amnesty isn't going to happen anytime soon. Democrats should stop holding effective border control hostage to a legalization plan they're using to rev up the Latino vote.
Participants in Saturday's pro-amnesty marches are being used by the Democratic party elite, Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Mickey Kaus charged today.
"There is not going to be an amnesty this year, or next year. The majority of the American people don't want it, for good reason. They want to secure the borders first," he said. "Amnesty before we secure the borders would only encourage yet another wave of illegals and hurt the wages of unskilled Americans (and legal immigrants)."

Defense Secretary Robert Gates is warning Congress not to tamper with the military's ban on openly gay service members until he can come up with his own plan for repeal.
In a strongly worded letter, obtained by The Associated Press, Gates told a House committee on Friday that forcing policy changes on the military before it's ready "would send a very damaging message to our men and women in uniform that in essence their views, concerns and perspectives do not matter."

Updated: Sarah Palin E-Mail Hacker Convicted of Obstruction of Justice and Unauthorized Access to a Computer
+++++Update+++++
Sarah Palin has issued a statement following David Kernell’s conviction:
My family and I are thankful that the jury thoroughly and carefully weighed the evidence and issued a just verdict. Besides the obvious invasion of privacy and security concerns surrounding this issue, many of us are concerned about the integrity of our country’s political elections. America’s elections depend upon fair competition. Violating the law, or simply invading someone’s privacy for political gain, has long been repugnant to Americans’ sense of fair play. As Watergate taught us, we rightfully reject illegally breaking into candidates’ private communications for political intrigue in an attempt to derail an election.
I want to thank the public servants who worked so hard on this case, particularly the jurors who gave up precious time from their jobs and families to listen to the evidence and reach a decision.
My family and I appreciate the good people of Knoxville, Tennessee, who showed us true Southern hospitality. We can’t wait to visit again – but without having a subpoena in hand.

The former University of Tennessee student faced as much as 50 years for breaking into Palin’s e-mail while the former Alaska governor was the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008.
