- Experts back Sarah Palin’s historical account – Sarah Palin yesterday insisted her claim at the Old North Church last week that Paul Revere “warned the British” during his famed 1775 ride — remarks that Democrats and the media roundly ridiculed — is actually historically accurate. And local historians are backing her up.
Palin prompted howls of partisan derision when she said on Boston’s Freedom Trail that Revere “warned the British that they weren’t going to be taking away our arms by ringing those bells and making sure as he’s riding his horse through town to send those warning shots and bells that we were going to be secure and we were going to be free.”
Palin insisted yesterday on Fox News Sunday she was right: “Part of his ride was to warn the British that were already there. That, hey, you’re not going to succeed. You’re not going to take American arms.”
In fact, Revere’s own account of the ride in a 1798 letter seems to back up Palin’s claim. Revere describes how after his capture by British officers, he warned them “there would be five hundred Americans there in ashort time for I had alarmed the Country all the way up.”
Boston University history professor Brendan McConville said, “Basically when Paul Revere was stopped by the British, he did say to them, ‘Look, there is a mobilization going on that you’ll be confronting,’ and the British are aware as they’re marching down the countryside, they hear church bells ringing — she was right
about that — and warning shots being fired. Tbout tha. That’s accurate.” - Sarah Palin’s Account of Paul Revere’s Midnight Ride Gets Shot Down by Historians – Sarah Palin said that Paul Revere warned the British during his midnight ride in 1775. Historians beg to differ.
"He didn't warn the British," said James Giblin, author of "The Many Rides of Paul Revere." "That's her most obvious blooper."
During her "One Nation Tour" last week, the former Alaska governor uttered a now-infamous recounting of the Revolutionary War hero's midnight ride, telling reporters that Revere "warned, uh, the … the British that they weren't going to be taking away our arms, uh, by ringing those bells." She defended her explanation on "Fox News Sunday," saying "Part of his ride was to warn the British that we're already there — that, 'Hey, you're not going to succeed. '"
Experts agree that warning the British — Revere was an American patriot, remember, he was against the folks across the pond — was not crucial to the midnight ride.
- What Sarah Palin Got Wrong — And We Did, Too – It was a harrowing night for Revere. Meanwhile, our episode is thoroughly absurd. Palin got the story wrong. Big deal. It’s not worth mocking her and saying she’s a dummy. Nor is it worth trying to pull her bacon out of the fire with a lame and halfblind excuse for how she was really correct, sort of, if you look at it from the right angle, while basically ignoring her actual words. Both sides look foolish.
Palin should have been humble and admitted she got the story wrong. She could have spun it to say that she got the spirit of the thing right. She could have done a lot of things. But persisting in a flashing-neon error as she’s done is prideful, and that kind of pigheadedness is very unattractive in someone vying for public office. Sarah’s sin was in her lack of humility.
But then there’s us, we who revel in the cheap shot and the takedown. People make mistakes. People say cockamamie things. But high-vaulting and jumping down their throats is rarely called for. Still, we’ve cultivated a whole media culture of such acrobatics. That is also prideful and unattractive.

Weinergate: Put a Fork in Weiner – He’s Done
U.S. Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY) speaks to the media in New York, June 6, 2011. Representative Anthony Weiner admitted on Monday to sending a lewd photo of himself to a 21-year-old female college student over his Twitter account after previously denying he had done so
I think so.It was only fitting that the circus surrounding Rep. Anthony Weiner’s admission on Monday that he had, in fact, sent lewd messages to random females over Twitter ended with a lewd question referencing a wiener.
“Were you fully erect?” an apparent plant from a shock jock radio show shouted as the New York Democrat ended a painful apology news conference in New York City’s Sheraton Hotel.
Tent pole jokes aside, the inquisitor highlighted a remarkable fact: A man regarded as one of the smartest strategists in Democratic politics and a likely 2013 New York City mayoral frontrunner had fallen from the rising star to national punch line in less than a week.
And the embarrassing scandal inevitably raised the question of whether the career of a politician — even one as skilled as many thought Weiner was — could survive it. A quick poll of New York politicos and D.C. pundits found few saying he could. But they also noted a geopolitical factor that worked to his advantage: This is New York — stranger things have happened.
“He needs to have a multi-year commitment to a comeback strategy,” said Chris Lehane, a Democratic operative and oft-described crisis communications expert with experience in the Clinton White House. “I’d tell him that you have to realize it will take you multiple years to get back to the position you were in just a week ago.”
Rep. Anthony Weiner ain’t no Ted Kennedy or Bill Clinton.
Put a fork in him – He’s Done.

Weinergate: Rep Anthony Weiner’s Press Conference Was a FAKE – Yeah, Sure It Was
Yeah, sure it was.So how do I know today’s press conference was a hoax? There are ten reasons:
1) Today’s press conference was supposedly held at a Sheraton hotel in New York City. Well, I went to websites various New York area Sheratons this morning. Not one of them indicated that Rep. Weiner was going to give a press conference there this afternoon. Not a ONE.
2) Anthony Weiner does not look like that. Go to his website – he has more hair and his complexion is not that dark. Also, having heard him speak many times, I know he does not talk like the guy in the press conference. He’s a lot more combative, louder, and funnier.
3) YFrog.
4) Last week, Anthony Weiner said he could not say with “certaintude” that the photo was his. Many people here rightly assumed that he knew the photo was not his, but couldn’t say so, because the FBI was involved. Because as you know, if you’ve asked the police to investigate something, that last thing you would want to do is proclaim your innocence. They hate that. Anyhow, the Feds surely would have known that Weiner making a statement would have compromised their whole investigation. And Andrew Breitbart, knowing this, had a press conference with a fake Weiner – so as to keep the FBI off his scent.
5) Who does this help? Clarence Thomas, Dana Loesch, Dana Bash, and some guy named Wolfe. Think about it. Add it up.
6) Normally, during press conferences of this nature, the spouse of the so-called apologetic Congressman is in attendance. But not this time. Why not? Obviously they couldn’t find a lookalike for her.
7) Don’t you think he would have apologized using Tweet Deck?
8) During the press conference, the shadow behind him didn’t always match the image of the person pretending to be Congressman Weiner.
9) I’ve created better fake press conferences using only iMovie, a couple of Apps on my EVO, and a cardboard cutout.
10) Anthony Weiner would never do anything like this.
Uh Huh….Laugh while it is still up on the Daily Kos site.

CA-36: New Dem Ad Links Craig Huey and Sarah Palin
We don’t need Craig Huey’s extremist right wing agenda.Janice Hahn will fight for our agenda — common sense solutions, create green jobs, and cut Washington’s spending while protecting Medicare
Here come the extremist scare ads from the Democrats. And, look who is the boogey woman – Sarah Palin.
Sarah Palin has become the California Democrats’ go-to for labeling a Republican as “extreme.”
Los Angeles City Councilwoman Janice Hahn (D) linked the former Alaska governor to her Republican opponent in her first TV ad of the House special-election runoff.
I remember during the Carly Fiorina and Senator Barbara Boxer campaign last Fall, the same tone and character of the ad. This time though they channel Sarah Palin, abortion AND Medicare.
Guess they are targeting the professional woman vote, old and young.
The Hahn ad — which goes up tomorrow on cable TV “throughout the district,” according to a campaign spokesman — also accuses Huey of harboring an “extremist right-wing agenda.” The runoff vote is set for July 12.
Just a reminder, the California 36th congressional District has a very Democratic registration advantage.

California Congressional Redistricting: Visualizations Have Thousand Oaks Thrown Into Democratic San Fernando Valley District
Map courtesy of Redistricting Partners
Yes, it looks like the Conejo Valley of which Thousand Oaks is a part (where I live) will be merged with the West San Fernando Valley and its predominate Democratic registration. GOP Rep. Elton Gallegly will no longer be my congressman.Western and southern portions of the San Fernando Valley were drawn into a district that extends into the Ventura County’s Conejo Valley. This would make the San Fernando Valley vote most important in the district. Brad Sherman and Howard Berman are drawn into the same seat, but this is much more a Brad Sherman district based on where these two members of congress have run and won in the past.
The visualizations could very well change by the release of the drafts on Friday, and most likely will change before final versions are issued no later than Aug. 15.
I can only hope.

Weinergate: Rep Nancy Pelosi Calls for Ethics Inquiry Over Weiner Tweet Scandal
Former Democratic Speaker and now House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi with rep. Anthony Weiner and former Democratic N.Y. Governor Eliot Spitzer who resigned after a scandal involving prostitutes
Who will be the first Dem to throw Weiner under the bus?House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Rep. Steve Israel, the chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, are calling for an investigation into Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) over the series of sexually explicit conservations and lewd photos he exchanged with a half-dozen women during the last several years.
“I am deeply disappointed and saddened about this situation; for Anthony’s wife, Huma, his family, his staff and his constituents,” Pelosi said in a statement released on Monday night.
“I am calling for an Ethics Committee investigation to determine whether any official resources were used or any other violation of House rules occurred.”
Israel added: “Congressman Anthony Weiner engaged in a deep personal failure and inappropriate behavior that embarrassed himself, his family, and the House. Ultimately, Anthony and his constituents will make a judgment about his future .
“To remove all remaining doubt about this situation, I agree with Leader Pelosi’s request that the House Ethics Committee use its authority to begin an investigation.”
It won’t be long before Weiner is shown the door by his fellow Dems. If not, the liability he will have for the Democrats going into an election year will sink many ships. Can you imagine the Congressional television ads?

President 2012 Video: If Unemployment Stays High – I Don’t See How Obama Wins
Democratic strategist James Carville on the Don Imus ShowEven James Carville admits it will be tough for President Obama to win re-election if the unemployment situation does not improve quickly.
Who ever thought the saying, “It’s the economy stupid,” from James Carville in 1992 would become a staple in presidential elections 20 years later?
That expression made its way into the campaign in 2008, and according to Carville, it could be the theme of the 2012 campaign as well as President Barack Obama seeks reelection. In an appearance on Monday’s “Imus in the Morning” on the Fox Business Network, the former Clinton adviser said that, based on the May jobs number, if the unemployment picture doesn’t improve, 2012 could be rough for the president.
It may already be too late for President Obama, depending upon who the GOP nominates.
