President 2012 GOP Poll Watch: Nevada to Hold Primary on January 14

From the Politico e-mail press release:

Nevada will hold its presidential caucus Saturday, Jan. 14, Nevada GOP Chairwoman Amy Tarkanian said. The state party set the date Wednesday night after New Hampshire refused to allow Nevada to tether its caucus date five days after the New Hampshire primary. The move could put the New Hampshire primary as far up as Jan. 3, which would push the Iowa caucus into December.

Welcome to Iowa, Nevada and New Hampshire campaigning during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.

    Ho Ho Ho…..

President 2012: Sarah Palin Will NOT Seek the Presidency

Former Governor of Alaska Sarah Palin speaks to supporters at a rally organized by the Tea Party of America in Indianola, Iowa September 3, 2011
Sarah Palin will NOT seek the Presidency in 2012.

After much prayer and serious consideration, I have decided that I will not be seeking the 2012 GOP nomination for President of the United States. As always, my family comes first and obviously Todd and I put great consideration into family life before making this decision. When we serve, we devote ourselves to God, family and country. My decision maintains this order. My decision is based upon a review of what common sense Conservatives and Independents have accomplished, especially over the last year. I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office – from the nation’s governors to Congressional seats and the Presidency. We need to continue to actively and aggressively help those who will stop the “fundamental transformation” of our nation and instead seek the restoration of our greatness, our goodness and our constitutional republic based on the rule of law.

From the bottom of my heart I thank those who have supported me and defended my record throughout the years, and encouraged me to run for President. Know that by working together we can bring this country back – and as I’ve always said, one doesn’t need a title to help do it.

I will continue driving the discussion for freedom and free markets, including in the race for President where our candidates must embrace immediate action toward energy independence through domestic resource developments of conventional energy sources, along with renewables. We must reduce tax burdens and onerous regulations that kill American industry, and our candidates must always push to minimize government to strengthen the economy and allow the private sector to create jobs.

Those will be our priorities so Americans can be confident that a smaller, smarter government that is truly of the people, by the people, and for the people can better serve this most exceptional nation.
In the coming weeks I will help coordinate strategies to assist in replacing the President, re-taking the Senate, and maintaining the House.

Thank you again for all your support. Let’s unite to restore this country!

  • Nicolle Wallace,  Sarah Palin

Mentally Ill Vice President Inspired by Sarah Palin in Nicolle Wallace Novel

No love lost here from the former McCain-Palin campaign advisor, Nicolle Wallace.

Time: In the book, the vice presidential character, Tara Meyers, is completely unfit for her job.

Wallace: The idea of a mentally ill vice president who suffers in complete isolation was obviously sparked by the behaviors I witnessed by Sarah Palin. What if somebody who was ill-equipped for the office were to ascend to the presidency or vice presidency? What would they do? How long would it take for people to figure it out? I became consumed by this question.

Time: When you were working on the McCain campaign, what about Sarah Palin alarmed you so much?

Wallace: Well, first let me just say that the novel is by no means meant to build a case against Sarah Palin. However, to the extent that the people around [the fictional vice president] Tara watched in this troubled state of confusion, despair and helplessness as she flailed around – that was something I experienced. Palin vacillated between extraordinary highs on the campaign stage – she ignited more enthusiasm than our side had seen at any other point – to debilitating lows. She was often withdrawn, uncommunicative and incapable of performing even the most basic tasks required of her job as McCain’s running mate.

The decision to relocate debate prep from the campaign trail, which is where McCain did his prep, to Sedona, was to isolate her and help her overcome the shock of becoming an overnight celebrity. There certainly were discussions – not for long because of the arc the campaign took – but certainly there were discussions about whether, if they were to win, it would be appropriate for her to be sworn in.

It is obvious that Nicolle Wallace has some sort of vendetta against Sarah Palin. All of the crap after the 2008 campaign allegedly came from “leaks” from Wallace and Steve Schmidt.

Reportedly, Palin and Wallace are not speaking to one another. Why should they?

But, this business about Palin not being sworn into office, if the McCain-Palin ticket had won, is just spiteful B.S..

  • American Economy,  Barack Obama

United States Becomes Handout Nation With Half Living in a Household Receiving Government Benefits

Nearly half of all Americans live in households that received some government benefit in the first quarter of 2010, according to census data.

Families were more dependent on government programs than ever last year.Nearly half, 48.5%, of the population lived in a household that received some type of government benefit in the first quarter of 2010, according to Census data. Those numbers have risen since the middle of the recession when 44.4% lived households receiving benefits in the third quarter of 2008.

The share of people relying on government benefits has reached a historic high, in large part from the deep recession and meager recovery, but also because of the expansion of government programs over the years. (See a timeline on the history of government benefits programs here.)

Means-tested programs, designed to help the needy, accounted for the largest share of recipients last year. Some 34.2% of Americans lived in a household that received benefits such as food stamps, subsidized housing, cash welfare or Medicaid (the federal-state health care program for the poor).

Another 14.5% lived in homes where someone was on Medicare (the health care program for the elderly). Nearly 16% lived in households receiving Social Security.

High unemployment and increased reliance on government programs has also shrunk the nation’s share of taxpayers. Some 46.4% of households will pay no federal income tax this year, according to the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center. That’s up from 39.9% in 2007, the year the recession began.

Most of those households will still be hit by payroll taxes. Just 18.1% of households pay neither payroll nor federal income taxes and they are predominantly the nation’s elderly and poorest families.

The tandem rise in government-benefits recipients and fall in taxpayers has been cause for alarm among some policymakers and presidential hopefuls.

The American economy is facing a collapse unless something is done by the federal government to stimulate economic growth. And, America is not going to achieve this by taxing the rich.

President Obama and Senate Democrats have better get serious about the economy or get the hell out of the way and let the GOP House do it.

  • Polling,  President 2012

President 2012 Poll Watch: Generic Republican 47% Vs. Obama 41%

According to the latest Rasmussen Poll.

A generic Republican now holds a six-point advantage over President Obama in a hypothetical 2012 match-up for the week ending Sunday, October 2.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey of Likely U.S. Voters finds the generic Republican earning 47% support, while the president picks up 41% of the vote.  Four percent (4%) prefer some other candidate, and eight percent (8%) are undecided.

Last week, the generic Republican and the president were essentially tied.  Since weekly tracking began in early May, the Republican has earned 43% to 49% support, while the president has picked up 40% to 45% of the vote.

American voters are dissatisfied with President Obama’s performance. Plain and simple.

With the GOP Presidential field set, nominating Romney or Perry or any combination thereof will probably go into election season with a fairly decent chance of making the President a one-termer.

Flap’s Links and Comments for October 4th through October 5th

These are my links for October 4th through October 5th:

    • Senate Democrats rewrite Obama’s jobs bill– Senate Democrats are rewriting portions of President Barack Obama’s jobs bill to include a new 5 percent tax on income above $1 million — a proposal that is sure to be blocked by Republicans.Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Wednesday he is changing the plan in an effort to attract more votes from fellow Democrats. He said he plans to bring the bill to the floor next week. Reid, however, wouldn’t predict whether Democratic senators would unite behind the measure, which is unlikely to get any support from Republicans.

The new tax would replace tax increases sought by the president. Obama’s plan called for raising taxes by limiting itemized deductions — including those for charitable donations and mortgage interest — for individuals making more than $200,000 and married couples making more than $250,000.

Reid said the millionaire’s tax would cover the entire cost of Obama’s jobs bill — about $450 billion over the next decade.

Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said there was opposition to Obama’s plan because people making $250,000 or $300,000 in high cost areas, like New York, don’t consider themselves rich.

“Drawing a line at $1 million is the right thing to do,” Schumer said.

The top income tax rate is currently 35 percent, on taxable income above $379,150. Under the bill, the new top rate for millionaires would go to 40 percent.

Reid announced plans to move the bill as Obama tried to blame Republicans for Congress’ failure to act.

    • Green Jobs Training Program Falls Short, Should Return Funds– A $500 million green jobs program at the Department of Labor has so far provided only 15 percent of current participants with jobs, leading the agency’s inspector general to recommend that the bulk of the money be returned to the Treasury. The program, which was funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, aims to find employment for almost 80,000 people by providing grants for labor exchange and job training projects. With those grants expiring over the next 15 months, IG officials concluded that the program would fail to come close to that target.

More than $300 million remains unspent, according to the report (pdf). Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), who requested the Labor audit when he was ranking member of the Senate Finance Committee, said the findings show that Congress should focus on creating jobs in all sectors of the economy.

“This report paints a pretty bleak picture of the program’s effectiveness in job creation,” he said in a statement. “It’s hard to see how leaving $300 million in unused funding for the program in the hands of the Labor Department benefits either the taxpayers or the unemployed.”
