ObamaCare Poll Watch: 43% Favorable Vs. 48% Unfavorable

According to the latest Kaiser Family foundation Poll.

As you may know, a health reform bill was signed into law early last year. Given what you know about the health reform law, do you have a generally favorable or generally unfavorable opinion of it?

    43% Favorable, 48% Unfavorable

    2/8-13/11; 1,202 adults, 3% margin of error

    Mode: Live telephone interviews

This is not a good poll for President Obama and why the GOP will never nominate Mitt Romney, the author of the failed RomneyCare in Massachusetts.

ObamaCare repeal WILL be an issue in the Presidential race next year.

    Here is the chart:

    • Wisconsin Union Leaders Offer Financial Concessions? – Top leaders of two of Wisconsin's largest public employee unions announced they are willing to accept the financial concessions called for in Walker's plan, but will not accept the loss of collective bargaining rights.

Mary Bell, president of the Wisconsin Education Association Council, and Marty Beil, executive director of AFSCME Council 24, said in a conference call with reporters that workers will do their fair share to narrow Wisconsin's budget gap.

Walker's plan calls for nearly all state, local and school employees to pay half the costs of their pensions and at least 12.6 percent of their health care premiums. That would save $30 million by June 30 and $300 million over the next two years, the governor has said.

The measure also would prohibit most unionized public employees, except local police and fire fighters and the State Patrol, from bargaining on issues besides wages. Wage hikes could be negotiated only if they don't exceed the consumer price index.

"We want to say loud and clear — it is not about those concessions," Bell said. "For my members, it's about retaining a voice in their professions."

The two insisted their positions have not changed and Friday's call was intended to clarify their opposition to Walker's proposal. Bell, who represents 98,000 educators, and Beil, whose council includes 60,000 members, repeated calls for Walker to sit down with them.

      +++++++

You see with the public employee unions it is all about power.

Should the GOP Push Illegal Immigration Border Security?

Illegal immigrants crossing into the United States

    The short answer is YES.

That policy ought to begin with serious steps towards border security and the completion of the fence that has been first delayed, then proposed in an unworkable “virtual” form, and now at approximately 650 miles of 2,000 along the southern border.  Until the border is secured and the visa program made enforceable, the issue of what to do about the millions of illegal aliens in the country cannot be resolved because of the continued migration of hundreds of thousands each year across a porous border.  80 to 90% of the country agrees on the basics of immigration policy, but the consequences of the paralysis engendered by the extremes is first and foremost a national security threat that gets worse every month.

I don’t know about the completion of a border fence as a cornerstone of a revised immigration policy but certainly enhanced employer sanctions and enforcement are areas where quick change can be facilitated.

What might happen to the GOP, if illegal immigration is ignored? Well, look what happened in the Southwest where massive number of illegal aliens have been tolerated and/or encouraged for decades vis a vis elections.

A look at the electoral map shows that, outside selected parts of the Southwest, few Republican candidates this year paid a price for adopting a hard-line immigration stance.

The reason is that most of the historic wave that swept Democrats from office last week was in Midwestern or Rust Belt states, where Latinos make up only a fragment of the voting population. For example, Democrats lost five House seats, a Senate seat and the governorship in Pennsylvania, where only 3% of eligible voters are Latino.

Jennifer Duffy, a senior editor at the Cook report who tracks congressional races, has a message to activists who contend immigration is the Democrats’ salvation: Don’t hold your breath.

“You’ve got to have states where [immigration] matters, where that Latino vote is enough to tip races,” Duffy said. “Those states are in the West.”

Although Latinos have been moving to more remote parts of the country in recent years, many may be too young to vote or may lack citizenship status. That makes it even tougher to replicate the Western experience in places such as Pennsylvania, she said.”Not only do they not have the Latino vote to help, they have an illegal immigrant problem,” Duffy said of Democrats. “It’s a double whammy.”

But, although Midwestern and Southern states GOP do NOT now have an electoral problem. They will, if the issue is ignored. Look at the balkinization of the recent US Senate race in California.

Illegal immigration has been ignored in California for decades. While many immigrants from Mexico, Central and South American were encouraged to illegal cross into the United States to work as cheap labor in agriculture, meat packing, domestic/service industries and construction, their numerous children were born here and became American citizens who can vote – and who vote 2 or 3 to 1 for Democratic candidates. Much like the African-American voters who vote almost 4 or 5 to 1 Democratic, the Latino/Hispanic voting block has started to influence elections in the Western United States – to the detriment of the GOP.

So, obviously, it is to the benefit of the GOP to stop the in-flow of illegal immigrants who will squeeze them in elections in the decades to come.

The GOP House in January should immediately hold hearings and attach border securing riders to major appropriations bills. Forget about the “Anchor Baby” nonsense and pass tough employer sanctions on illegal alien supporting industries, including California agriculture. When agri-business starts to scream because their supply of cheap labor dries up, then a “Guest Worker” program can be passed with the provision and emphasis on “Guest.”

The Congress can force the building of more walls and other hard asset border securing methods. They can fund grants to states for additional law enforcement efforts along the border since Obama will probably never order more National Guard or Army to protect the Mexican border.

Once the Mexican border is secure and tough enforcement of immigration laws occurs, then and only then should the Congress deal with the issue of illegal immigrants who remain. I bet most will self-deport themselves, in any case, since there will be few jobs available for them.

The illegal immigration problem can no longer be ignored and should be a priority for the GOP when the new Congress convenes in January.

Sarah Palin, Book Burning and Media Focus

    From Sarah Palin’s Twitter Stream

Sarah Palin’s position on the Koran burning is pretty clear.

Book burning is antithetical to American ideals. People have a constitutional right to burn a Koran if they want to, but doing so is insensitive and an unnecessary provocation – much like building a mosque at Ground Zero.

I would hope that Pastor Terry Jones and his supporters will consider the ramifications of their planned book-burning event. It will feed the fire of caustic rhetoric and appear as nothing more than mean-spirited religious intolerance. Don’t feed that fire. If your ultimate point is to prove that the Christian teachings of mercy, justice, freedom, and equality provide the foundation on which our country stands, then your tactic to prove this point is totally counter-productive.

Our nation was founded in part by those fleeing religious persecution. Freedom of religion is integral to our charters of liberty. We don’t need to agree with each other on theological matters, but tolerating each other without unnecessarily provoking strife is how we ensure a civil society. In this as in all things, we should remember the Golden Rule. Isn’t that what the Ground Zero mosque debate has been about?

    – Sarah Palin

But, she is also RIGHT about the media focus or lack thereof in the above tweet.

Updated: Sarah Palin E-Mail Hacker Convicted of Obstruction of Justice and Unauthorized Access to a Computer

    +++++Update+++++

Sarah Palin has issued a statement following David Kernell’s conviction:

My family and I are thankful that the jury thoroughly and carefully weighed the evidence and issued a just verdict. Besides the obvious invasion of privacy and security concerns surrounding this issue, many of us are concerned about the integrity of our country’s political elections. America’s elections depend upon fair competition. Violating the law, or simply invading someone’s privacy for political gain, has long been repugnant to Americans’ sense of fair play. As Watergate taught us, we rightfully reject illegally breaking into candidates’ private communications for political intrigue in an attempt to derail an election.

I want to thank the public servants who worked so hard on this case, particularly the jurors who gave up precious time from their jobs and families to listen to the evidence and reach a decision.

My family and I appreciate the good people of Knoxville, Tennessee, who showed us true Southern hospitality. We can’t wait to visit again – but without having a subpoena in hand.

David Kernell was convicted of two of four charges relating to his hacking into then Alaska Governor and GOP Vice Presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s personal e-mail account.

A Tennessee jury on Friday convicted the man who hacked Sarah Palin’s e-mail account on two of four charges — computer fraud and obstruction of justice. The panel did not find David Kernall guilty guilty of wire fraud. It deadlocked on an identity theft charge.

The former University of Tennessee student faced as much as 50 years for breaking into Palin’s e-mail while the former Alaska governor was the Republican vice presidential candidate in 2008.

    Palin testified during the trial.

Here is some video from the trial:

Updated: CA-Sen: Chuck DeVore’s Money BOMB Fail

    +++++Update+++++

Now, the Devore campaign spokesman Joshua Trevino is claiming success of the Devore moneybomb:

    But…….

Have they changed the facts as outlined below?

Here is a screenshot from a few minutes ago:

Well, finally DeVore made it to $60K which I say below is certainly not very much by today’s campaign standards. So, sorry Josh, it is still a FAIL – unless DeVore’s success equals “changing the clock” or other such time changing antics.

chuckdevoretweets CA-Sen: Chuck DeVore Says Pro-Life While He Votes For Public Taxpayer Funding of Abortion

California Assemblyman and U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore Tweeting for Cash(?)

Well, Chuck DeVore is NO Scott Brown or Marco Rubio. It is well documented that in the race for California United States Senate to replace Barbara Boxer, DeVore’s fundraising has been extremely anemic.

On the other hand, Chuck DeVore only raised $445,000 since October 2009. His expenses during that time were $364,000 for a net for the last quarter of 2009 equal to less than $100,000. DeVore reports $226,364 cash on hand but has debts and obligations of $83,654. So, his net cash on hand is $142,710.

DeVore’s poor showing in fundraising should re-ignite the rumors that he will soon drop out of the race.

    DeVore’s campaign statement is here.

And, I documented the start of Chuck DeVore’s campaign’s moneybomb here – on January 27. Remember that a moneybomb, first promoted by Presidential candidate Ron Paul and his rabid online followers is supposed to be a ONE DAY event – a sudden cash infusion for a campaign.

Ron Paul, the libertarian contrarian of the GOP, did not use the Internet to find his fervent band of followers and donors. They found him – and set records in the process.

Paul’s backers introduced a new term to the political lexicon – “money bomb” – a one-day fundraising frenzy that yielded $4.3 million Nov. 5, chosen because it was Guy Fawkes Day in England (he’s the guy who tried to blow up Parliament 400 years ago).

But the Paulunteers (or Paulistas) were just getting started. A month later, Trevor Lyman, a music promoter who had never voted before, and his backers set off a $6 million money bomb. They picked Dec. 16, the day commemorating the Boston Tea Party. The Ron Paul Revolution set a one-day mark for fundraising that contributed to his fourth-quarter haul of almost $20 million.

But, DeVore’s campaign has failed in style and subtance. His moneybomb has been over many days and FAILED to raise any REAL money (not even meeting his own goal of $60K).

Here is what DeVore started with (or at least when I noticed his moneybomb) on January 27:

DeVore-Money-Bomb-Jan-26-20 CA-Sen: Chuck DeVores Money BOMB

Here is yesterday morning (February 1) around 6 AM or so:

From January 27 to early morning February 1 DeVore increased about $11K

And, here is a screenshot from February 1 (last night) around 7PM:

About a 13K increase in 12 hours or so

And, then this morning (February 2) around 6AM:

A few thousand more but still below the stated goal of $60K by Febraury 1 (note the goal was changed this morning to February 2)

I don’t mean to beat an apparent dead horse and candidate as Chuck Devore is but these fundraising numbers and lack of support have to give the candidate a wake-up call. With the cost of campaigns and his polling numbers (last place) in both the California Field and PPIC polls, why is Chuck DeVore in good conscience even persisting in filing for the United States Senate?

DeVore has been campaigning for over fourteen months now and his candidacy has NOT caught fire – no matter how much he spams twitter for campaign donations.

Chuck, gracefully withdraw now and support the only remaining conservative in the race, Carly Fiorina.
