Iraq War Watch: Congressman Johnson Pleads for the Troops
Powerline: Congressman Johnson Pleads for the Troops
The last Republican to speak against the Democrats’ anti-surge, pro-defeat resolution yesterday was Sam Johnson of Texas. Johnson was a pilot who flew something like 90 combat missions in Korea and Vietnam. He was shot down over North Vietnam and spent seven years as a POW, most of that time in solitary confinement. He returned to the U.S. in 1973 and was elected to Congress in 1991.
And what does Representative Jack Murtha have to say to this patriot?
Come on Jack, tell the troops that your selfish and foolish pride wants to undercut their mission in Iraq – with a SLOW BLEED strategy.
If you only had the COJONES – OLD MAN……….

Iraq War Watch: House Passes Resolution REBUKING President on Iraq War
CNN (Via Hugh Hewitt): House passes resolution rebuking the president on Iraq
The Democratic-controlled House issued a symbolic rejection of President Bush’s plan to deploy more troops to Iraq on Friday, opening an epic confrontation between Congress and commander in chief over an unpopular war that has taken the lives of more than 3,100 U.S. troops.
The vote on the nonbinding measure was 246-182.
“The stakes in Iraq are too high to recycle proposals that have little prospect for success,” said Speaker Nancy Pelosi, leader of Democrats who gained power last fall in elections framed by public opposition to the war.
“The passage of this legislation will signal a change in direction in Iraq that will end the fighting and bring our troops home,” she vowed.
Bush’s Republican allies said repeatedly the measure would lead to attempts to cut off funds for the troops. Outnumbered, they turned to Rep. Sam Johnson of Texas to close their case — and the former Vietnam prisoner of war stepped to the microphone as lawmakers in both parties rose to applaud his heroism.
“Now it’s time to stand up for my friends who did not make it home, and for those who fought and died in Iraq already,” he said. “We must not cut funding for our troops. We must stick by them,” he added, snapping off a salute as he completed his remarks to yet another ovation.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Evangelical Richard Land Strikes Back at Rudy
The Hill: Evangelical leader sizes up GOP field, says Giuliani’s campaign is doomed
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who said Wednesday night he is making a bid for the White House, will not be America’s 44th president because he supports abortion rights and gay rights and has been married three times.
At least so says Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention’s Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission.
Land told The Hill in an interview this week that as it stands now, the top tier of Republican presidential hopefuls lacks a candidate social conservatives can be fully comfortable voting for.
So?
And how many “LOCKSTEP” GOP voters can Dr. Land guarantee for any ONE paricular primary candidate?
Some – but mainly in small delegate southern states.
And how much money can Land promise for media campaigns in California, New York and Florida?
Not much…….
James Dobson of Focus on the Family on John McCain: “I pray that we don’t get stuck with himâ€
At this time, Flap says Dr. Land and James Dobson have become IRRELEVANT to the GOP presidential selection process.
Beginning with Giuliani, Land said “the vast majority†of social conservative voters will not vote for the former mayor even if he gets the nomination and faces off against Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.).
“If he wins, he’ll do so without social conservatives,†Land said.
Hugh Hewitt says Dr. Land is WRONG.
Flap reiterates: Dr. Land is becoming IRRELEVANT with little or NO influence in the GOP.
So, where will they go, if not to Giuliani?
John McCain?
Very doubtful after what James Dobson said in January that he could not support him under any circumstances.
Mitt Romney?
A Mormon – an anathema to fundamentalist Christian Evangelicals?
No Way
In the meantime, the Mayor will be a featured speaker at a school founded by the Rev. Pat Robertson, officials said yesterday.
The appearance in April comes at a time when Giuliani is trying to build bridges to conservatives who dominate GOP primaries and who are wary of his pro-choice, pro-gay-rights stands.
The former mayor, who tops most GOP primary polls along with Arizona Sen. John McCain, will speak at Regent University’s executive-leadership series on April 17, school officials said.
Robertson, the fundamentalist televangelist who once ran for president himself, is chancellor of the school in Virginia Beach, Va., and “extended the invitation personally” to Giuliani.
He’ll likely introduce the former mayor at the lecture, a school spokeswoman said.
California-based Republican strategist Dan Schnur said it was a plus for Giuliani.
“It shows that social conservatives are at least willing to listen to him,” Schnur said.
Flap’s best bet is that the Evangelicals will turn the other cheek and accept the “sinner” yet MAINSTREAM Giuliani when faced with a prospect of Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.
Stay tuned……

Victory Caucus Watch: The Beginning
Hugh Hewitt: The Defeatists Take Center Stage In The House
This is the week the House has set to encourage the enemey in Iraq. The Los Angeles Times, ever precise, predicts between 30 and 60 Republicans will vote for the Democrats’ white flag resolution.
As with the pledge about the NRSC, I won’t be supporting any Republicans indifferent to the effect of these resolutions on our enemy and our own troops.
The Victory Caucus opened today, and watching the House debate should make for a vigorous debate among its members. If you believe in winning the war, sign up at the Caucus.
Flap has joined the Victory Caucus.
And like with the Pledge, Flap will not be supporting any GOP Representative for election/re-election or the National Republican Congressional Committee should they support/vote for any anti-Iraq War, anti American troop resolution.
So, get over there and register.
Flap knows you will be glad you did.

John Edwards Watch: Edwards Retains UNHINGED Blogger Amanda Marcotte
Dean Barnett: Leadership, John Edwards Style
The Edwards campaign has finally spoken! You’ll note that the following statement from the candidate himself neither stands behind the bloggers nor throws them under the bus. It doesn’t say they’re staying, it doesn’t say they’re going. What leadership!
The tone and the sentiment of some of Amanda Marcotte’s and Melissa McEwan’s posts personally offended me. It’s not how I talk to people, and it’s not how I expect the people who work for me to talk to people. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but that kind of intolerant language will not be permitted from anyone on my campaign, whether it’s intended as satire, humor, or anything else. But I also believe in giving everyone a fair shake. I’ve talked to Amanda and Melissa; they have both assured me that it was never their intention to malign anyone’s faith, and I take them at their word. We’re beginning a great debate about the future of our country, and we can’t let it be hijacked. It will take discipline, focus, and courage to build the America we believe in.
What strength of character. What a MORON
Afraid of the LEFT NUTROOTS – for shame.
If Edwards had any COJONES, he would admit the mistake and fire the BITCH.
Oh well, like Flap said before, The Wimp’s campaign won’t be around long anyway.
Allah and Bryan over at Hot Air have lots more.
Update:
Marcotte responds by sucking up to Edwards (guess she needs the gig?):
Marcotte: “My writings on my personal blog, Pandagon on the issue of religion are generally satirical in nature and always intended strictly as a criticism of public policies and politics… I am sorry if anyone was personally offended by writings meant only as criticisms of public politics.â€

Iraq War Senate Resolution Watch: Democrats Run for Cover But the GOP 7 Remain
Hugh Hewitt: Senate’s Resolution Frenzy Over: Democrats Flee Debate
Congrats to Mitch McConnell and the Republican caucus which stuck to its demands for fairness, and forced the Democrats to flee from the prospect of voting on the Gregg resolution. The whole sorry circus has now pulled up stakes and left town, and NRSC Pledge signers are free to resume contributions to the NRSC though, I suspect, they will wait a while to see if the new signs of spine in the Republicans on the Hill carry over until March, April, and beyond.
Sorry, Hugh, not so fast…….
Washington Post: 7 GOP senators back war debate
Senate Republicans who earlier this week helped block deliberations on a resolution opposing President Bush’s new troop deployments in Iraq changed course yesterday and vowed to use every tactic at their disposal to ensure a full and open debate.
In a letter distributed yesterday evening to Senate leaders, John W. Warner (Va.), Chuck Hagel (Neb.) and five other GOP supporters of the resolution threatened to attach their measure to any bill sent to the floor in the coming weeks. Noting that the war is the “most pressing issue of our time,” the senators declared: “We will explore all of our options under the Senate procedures and practices to ensure a full and open debate.”
And the other five?
The other Republican senators who signed the letter were Susan Collins and Olympia J. Snowe of Maine, Norm Coleman (Minn.), Gordon Smith (Ore.), and George V. Voinovich (Ohio).
The PLEDGE lives on.
Tell these 7 Senators to GET IT RIGHT OR GET OUT.
Tell them that you support the pledge.
No, Hugh it is NOT over……..
