United States Warns Russia Over Nuclear Bombers in Cuba

    July 23, 2008 /
Russian Federation renews projection of nuclear bombers

Russia is pissed off about the United States missile defense plans for Eastern Europe and have made statements about basing nuclear bombers in Cuba.

Russia would cross “a red line for the United States of America” if it were to base nuclear capable bombers in Cuba, a top US air force officer warned on Tuesday.

“If they did I think we should stand strong and indicate that is something that crosses a threshold, crosses a red line for the United States of America,” said General Norton Schwartz, nominated to be the air force’s chief of staff.

He was referring to a Russian news report that said the military is thinking of flying long-range bombers to Cuba on a regular basis.

It was unclear from the report whether that would involve permanent basing of nuclear bombers in Cuba, or just use of the island as a refueling stop.

Cuba is a non-starter for Russian-American relations and violates the mutual agreement reached after the Cuban Missile crisis. They lost the “COLD WAR” and with renewed financial vigor based on their oil they wish to SABER RATTLE.

More importantly Russia has been supplying Iran with S-300 aircraft missile defense systems and fissonable material for their nuclear reactors. Socialist dictator Hugo Chavez of Venezuela has been weapon shopping in Russia recently.

Russia should NO LONGER be treated as a friend but an adversary – a NEW COLD WAR?

China and Russia Critical of U.S. Missile Defense

    May 23, 2008 /

    Dmitry Medvedev and Hu Jintao

Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev (R) and Chinese President Hu Jintao inspect the honour guard during an official welcome ceremony at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square May 23, 2008. Medvedev arrived in Beijing on Friday, offering energy deals and military cooperation by seeking pledges of solidarity with resurgent China at a time when ties with the West are strained.

In a shocker, China and Russia are upset with the United States over its National Missile Defense program.

China and Russia jointly condemned a U.S. plan for a global missile defense system on Friday at the start of a highly symbolic visit by new Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

More specific than previous joint criticisms, the statement from Medvedev and Chinese President Hu Jintao objected to the installation of missile defense components in “some regions,” an apparent reference to former Soviet bloc countries where the U.S. plans to deploy components of the system.

“The creation of global missile defense systems and their deployment in some regions of the world … does not help to maintain strategic balance and stability and hampers international efforts in arms control and nuclear nonproliferation,” Hu and Medvedev said.

Medvedev’s choice of China as the main destination of his first foreign trip reflected the two nations’ increasing closeness in recent years as part of their efforts to counterbalance what they have called Washington’s global dominance.

When his predecessor Vladimir Putin went abroad for the first time as president in 2000, he traveled to London — via Belarus — with a message Russia wanted closer ties to the West.

China and Russia also signed a $1 billion nuclear cooperation deal that strengthens Russia’s role as a supplier to China’s fast-growing nuclear power industry. It calls for Russia to build a $500 million nuclear fuel enrichment plant and supply semi-enriched uranium worth at least $500 million.

Russia is bitching about America placing interceptors in Eastern Europe and China needs Russia’s nuclear technology to build power plants. So, they are scratching each others backs.

    missilefefense

Russia and China do not have the conventional military strength to intimidate/blackmail neighboring countries and must rely on their nuclear weapons to threaten. The United States Missile Defense program (in its various forms) can be used to neutralize their nuclear arsenals.

    So, they bitch and moan.

Too bad. They lost the argument during the Reagan Administration over twenty years ago. The American missile defense shield is operational. Get over it.

Missile Defense Watch: United States to Target Failed Satellite Tonight?

    February 20, 2008 /

    *****Update*****

The Pentagon says the window of opportunity is now open to shoot down failing spy satellite.

Successful intercept of ballistic missile target by Aegis SM-3 missile

Tonight around 7:30 PM Pacific time the United States Navy may attempt to target and shoot down a failed spy satellite using a heat-seeking Aegis SM-3 missile.

A Navy heat-seeking missile is getting its first real-world use in an attempt to demolish a crippled U.S. spy satellite before the orbiting craft falls back to Earth.

The targeting of the satellite – which could come Wednesday night – is not the mission for which this piece of the Pentagon’s missile defense network was intended, however.

The attempted shootdown, already approved by President Bush out of concern about toxic fuel on board the satellite, is seen by some as blurring the lines between defending against a weapon like a long-range missile and targeting satellites in orbit.

The three-stage Navy missile, designated the SM-3, has chalked up a high rate of success in a series of tests since 2002, in each case targeting a short- or medium-range ballistic missile, never a satellite. A hurry-up program to adapt the missile for this anti-satellite mission was completed in a matter of weeks; Navy officials say the changes will be reversed once this satellite is down.

The government issued notices to aviators and mariners to remain clear of a section of the Pacific Ocean beginning at 10:30 p.m. EST Wednesday, indicating the first window of opportunity to launch an SM-3 missile from a Navy cruiser, the USS Lake Erie, in an effort to hit the wayward satellite.

The world will be watching this display of American technological strength. The Atlantis space shuttle has just landed in Florida and now the United States will demonstrate its anti-ballistic missile program.

And, the United States, if successful tonight, will achieve a win-win. One it will silence Democrat Congressional critics of the Missile Defense Agency and send a message to China and Russia that exisiting American anti-ballistic forces can be easily modified to be used as an anti-satellite weapon in times of warfare.

    Stay tuned…….

Russia Says United States Has Ulterior Motive in Shooting Down Satellite

    February 16, 2008 /

Russia is UPSET that the United States wishes to shoot down a failed satellite with missile defense agency SM-3 missiles. Flap supposes Russia and China received the message.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said on Saturday a U.S. plan to shoot down an ailing spy satellite could be used as a cover to test a new space weapon.

The ministry said there was insufficient proof that Washington’s decision to fire a missile at the disabled satellite was to prevent a potentially deadly leak of toxic gas as it re-entered Earth’s atmosphere.

    What a shame.

Russia and China would rather have America negotiate an unenforceable “NO SPACE WEAPONS” treaty so that OUR research would be curtailed while they attempt to steal OUR technology to develop their own anti-satellite systems.

By the way, Flap is positive that the United States does possess other space weapons, including high energy generated lasers – remember those?

Vladimir Putin’s ‘grandiose’ plans signal start of new nuclear arms race

Vladimir Putin signalled the return of the arms race yesterday when he boasted of developing new nuclear weapons and warned the United States not to ignore Russia’s objections to a missile defence shield in Europe.

The Russian President announced a “grandiose plan” to restore Russia’s armed forces, which he appeared to link to the US invasion of Iraq. He described the invasion as an attempt to seize control of oil supplies and warned that Russia could defend its energy reserves against external threats.

He set out his plans during a live, televised question-and-answer session with ordinary Russians. A mechanic from Siberia raised a comment, allegedly made by Madeleine Albright, the former US Secretary of State, that it was “unjust” for Russia to have exclusive control of the region’s oil reserves.

The United States and its NATO allies should NOT be lulled into complacency regarding Putin and Russia.

America should continue to develop new military technologies to combat the continued threat of a Russia nuclear attack.

    Peace Through Strength.

And Russia has NO business continuing in the G-8.

    Russia holds successful missile test

Russia successfully tested a new sea-based ballistic missile Thursday after several previous failures, a naval spokesman said.

Capt. Igor Dygalo told The Associated Press that the Bulava missile hit its target on the Pacific peninsula of Kamchatka after being launched from the submarine Dmitry Donskoi in the White Sea.

Three earlier tests of the Bulava in recent years ended in failure, raising questions about the missile, which has been hailed as a key future component of Russia’s nuclear arsenal.

As President Bush meets with Russia’s President Putin next week, Flap likes to remind the President of Ronald Reagan’s old adage: TRUST BUT VERIFY.

    Update:

Russia lays claim to the North Pole – and all its gas, oil, and diamonds

Russian leader Vladimir Putin has made an astonishing bid to grab a vast chunk of the Arctic, giving himself claim to its vast potential oil, gas and mineral wealth.

His audacious argument that an underwater Russian ridge is linked to the North Pole is likely to lead to an international outcry.

Some commentators have already observed it is further evidence of growing Russian assertiveness under its authoritarian president.

Is Russian assertiveness a result of Bush weakness?

    Possible……..

They will have an interesting meeting next week.

    Cox & Forkum: Party Crasher

Moscow could aim nuclear weapons at targets in Europe as part of “retaliatory steps” if Washington proceeds with building a missile defense system on the continent, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday.

Speaking to foreign reporters days before he travels to Germany for the annual summit with President Bush and the other Group of Eight leaders, Putin assailed the White House plan to place a radar system in the Czech Republic and interceptor missiles in neighboring Poland. Washington says the system is needed to counter a potential threat from Iran.

In an interview released Monday, Putin suggested that Russia may respond to the threat by aiming its nuclear weapons at Europe.

“If a part of the strategic nuclear potential of the United States appears in Europe and, in the opinion of our military specialists, will threaten us, then we will have to take appropriate steps in response. What kind of steps? We will have to have new targets in Europe,” Putin said, according to a transcript released by the Kremlin. These could be targeted with “ballistic or cruise missiles or maybe a completely new system” he said.

On Monday, Iran’s top security official called the U.S. plans for the missile defense shield a “joke,” saying Tehran’s missiles do not have the capability to reach Europe.

“Claims by U.S. officials that installing a missile defense system in Europe is aimed at confronting Iranian missiles and protecting Europe against Iran is the joke of the year,” Ali Larijani told the state-run IRNA news agency.

“The range of Iran’s missiles doesn’t reach Europe at all,” IRNA quoted Larijani as saying in Iran’s first public reaction to the plans. Larijani is secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, the country’s top security decision-making body.

Iran is known to possess a medium-range ballistic missile called the Shahab-3 that has a range of at least 800 miles, capable of striking Israel. In 2005, Iranian officials said they had improved the range of the Shahab-3 to 1,200 miles.

The way Russia has been stalling for Iran in the United Nations Security Council, will not support tough sanctions for them to cease uranium enrichment and cutting nuclear and defense deals with Iran is it any surprise that Iran would NOT support its patron?

The fact is the new Shahab-4 and Shahab-6 missiles have the range to threaten Europe. And guess from where the technology for these multi-stage missiles comes?

    Why, Russia and North Korea.

Putin speaks with a FORKED TONGUE and Ali Larijani is a LIAR.

Missile Defense Watch: Russia’s Putin Blames America for New Arms Race

    May 31, 2007 /

    missiledefensemay31aweb

Russia’s President Vladimir Putin anwers questions during a joint news conference with Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Jean-Claude Juncker after a meeting at the Senningen Castle in Luxembourg in this May 24, 2007 file photo. Putin said on Thursday Russia’s test firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile on Tuesday was in response to U.S. steps that have upset the strategic balance.

Reuters: Putin says missile test response to U.S. moves

Russia’s test firing of an intercontinental ballistic missile on Tuesday was in response to U.S. steps that have sparked an arms race and undermined world security, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday.

    missiledefensemay29ajpgweb

An RS-20 booster blasts off from the launching pad in Baikonur, Kazakhstan, in April 2007. Russia has said it has successfully tested a new-generation intercontinental ballistic missile, firing it 6,000 kilometres across the country, news agencies reported. The new RS-24 was designed to replace the RS-18 and RS-20 rockets.
    The Quotes:

“Our American partners have left the ABM (Anti-Ballistic Missile) Treaty. We have warned them then that we will come out with a response to maintain the strategic balance in the world,” Putin told a news conference.

“We conducted a test of a new strategic ballistic missile with multiple warheads, and of a new cruise missile, and will continue to improve our resources.”

“We are not the initiators of this new round of the arms race,” said Putin. “(Our partners) are stuffing eastern Europe with new weapons. A new base in Bulgaria, another in Romania, a site in Poland, radar in the Czech Republic . . . what are we supposed to do? We cannot just observe all this.”

Crocodile tears from a former, known KGB agent, now the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin. The Russians were going to upgrade their aging and outdated ICBM missile force anyway. So, who is Putin trying to fool?

It sounds to me that he is taking a page out of Ahmadinejad’s media playbook.

The ICBM test proves NOTHING about United States Missile Defense. The system has been under development for over twenty years and is being deployed currently as testing continues. The system will be able to adapt to any technology the Russians devise.

However, Missile Defense does make Russia nervous. Remember the REYKJAVIK, ICELAND summit between Reagan and Gorbachev?

The Soviets wanted America to bargain away SDI, Missile Defense.

    reaganiceland2web

So, what does this posturing by Putin mean?

The timing is interesting, considering the G-8 meets next week in Germany.

Also, Russia has not been allied with the United States in halting Iran’s uranium enrichment program and in fact has supported their nuclear program as well as their air defense capability.

Putin announced a few weeks ago that he would step down next year and perhaps this posturing is his legacy or payback to his military and KGB supporters in the government.

But, whatever the motives and machinations of the former Soviet KGB agent, the United States foreign policy and missile defense continues to be governed by the Reagan Policy of

    Peace through Strength

Putin and President Bush will meet after the G-8 meeting in Maine.

“I think both presidents need this summit because before their terms expire they would like to register some positive moments in the bilateral relations to lay the foundation for future contacts,” said Andrei Kortunov, president of the New Eurasia Foundation, a Moscow-based think tank.

“Both leaders are already probably thinking about how they will go down in history, including the way they built relations between the two countries.”

Look for a serious of negotiations to result.

However, the Russia election cycle will begin this Fall and the American one has already begun.

The United States will proceed with their missile defense deployment.

Russia tests a new first strike ICBM Missile, is a known apologist in the United Nations for Iran’s nuclear weapon program and and then wants the United States to abandon portions of its missile defense shield.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has cautioned against turning Europe into a “powder keg”, referring to Washington’s plans to deploy elements of its missile defense system in Europe.

“We consider it harmful and dangerous to turn Europe into a “powder keg” and to fill it with new kinds of weapons,” Putin told a news conference after talks with the Portuguese prime minister in Moscow.

“It creates new unneeded risks for the entire system of international and European relations,” he said.
