Iraq War Watch: Henry Kissinger – Iraq Military Win Impossible

    kissingernovember19aweb

New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg, left, and Henry Kissinger arrive at the Queen Sofia Spanish Institute 2006 Gold Medal Gala in New York, Wednesday, Nov. 15, 2006.

AP: Kissinger: Iraq military win impossible

Military victory is no longer possible in Iraq, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger said in a television interview broadcast Sunday.

Kissinger presented a bleak vision of Iraq, saying the U.S. government must enter into dialogue with Iraq’s regional neighbors — including Iran — if progress is to be made in the region.

“If you mean by ‘military victory’ an Iraqi government that can be established and whose writ runs across the whole country, that gets the civil war under control and sectarian violence under control in a time period that the political processes of the democracies will support, I don’t believe that is possible,” he told the British Broadcasting Corp.

But Kissinger, an architect of the Vietnam war who has advised President Bush about Iraq, warned against a rapid withdrawal of coalition troops, saying it could destabilize Iraq’s neighbors and cause a long-lasting conflict.

In other words, Kissinger does not know what do do in Iraq either. He was pretty good at fecking up Vietnam as Flap recalls.

    Senator Harry Reid Watch: Non-Disclosure

    reidoctober13ajpgweb

Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., speaks to reporters following a news conference in Las Vegas on Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2006. Reid collected a $1.1 million windfall on a Las Vegas land sale even though he hadn’t personally owned the property for three years, property deeds show.

    Washington Post: Mr. Reid’s Nondisclosure

Philadelphia Inquirer: Practice what you preach

A lucrative land deal benefiting U.S. Senate minority leader Harry Reid (D., Nev.) deserves full scrutiny by the Senate ethics committee.

In 1998, Reid purchased undeveloped residential property on the outskirts of Las Vegas for $400,000. He bought one lot outright, and a second lot with a partner, Jay Brown. In 2001, Reid sold the land for the same price to a corporation created by Brown. Reid retained an ownership stake in the corporation and continued to pay taxes on the property. There was no written agreement; Brown told the Associated Press that the two had been friends for 35 years and didn’t need one.

With the Mark Foley Sex Scandal poised to sink the GOP and Democrat corruption of which the Harry Reid and William Jefferson Scandals come to immediate mind, isn’t it time to rethink TERM LIMITS for Congress and the United States Senate?

Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert Watch: RESIGN, Mr. Speaker

    hastertoctober2aweb

House Speaker Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., speaks to reporters regarding the resignation of Rep. Mark Foley, R-Fla., Monday, Oct. 2, 2006, on Capitol Hill in Washington. Hastert said Monday that no Republican leaders saw lurid Internet exchanges from Foley to pages and that he would have demanded the Florida Republican’s expulsion if he had known about them.

Matt Drudge: WASHINGTON TIMES ON TUESDAY WILL CALL FOR SPEAKER HASTERT’S RESIGNATION

Editorial titled: ‘Resign, Mr. Speaker’: ‘House Speaker Dennis Hastert must do the only right thing, and resign his speakership at once… Mr. Hastert has forfeited the confidence of the public and his party, and he cannot preside over the necessary coming investigation, an investigation that must examine his own inept performance’… — Washington Times, October 3, 2006…

    Washington Times: Resign, Mr. Speaker

The facts of the disgrace of Mark Foley, who was a Republican member of the House from a Florida district until he resigned last week, constitute a disgrace for every Republican member of Congress. Red flags emerged in late 2005, perhaps even earlier, in suggestive and wholly inappropriate e-mail messages to underage congressional pages. His aberrant, predatory — and possibly criminal — behavior was an open secret among the pages who were his prey. The evidence was strong enough long enough ago that the speaker should have relieved Mr. Foley of his committee responsibilities contingent on a full investigation to learn what had taken place, whether any laws had been violated and what action, up to and including prosecution, were warranted by the facts. This never happened.

    Read it ALL.
Flap says Hastert has to go.

And Bill Frist can resign too.

God, the GOP is full of MORONS and do NOT deserve to control the Congress.

A good ol’ fashion Republican blood-letting is on the horizon.

    Hear that Mr. President?

Representative William Jefferson Watch: GOP Challenges FBI Raid of Jefferson’s Office

President Bush, right, shakes hands with Speaker of the House Rep. Dennis Hastert, R-Ill., before delivering his speech on the War in Iraq at the Arie Crown Theatre in McCormick Place, Monday, May 22, 2006 in Chicago.

USA Today: GOP challenges FBI raid of Jefferson’s office

Displaying bipartisanship for one of their own, House Republican leaders are expressing concern that the FBI’s search of the Capitol office of Louisiana Democrat William Jefferson crossed the constitutional boundary between the White House and Congress. Tuesday, House Majority Leader John Boehner called the weekend raid “the Justice Department’s invasion of the legislative branch” and predicted the issue would “end up across the street at the Supreme Court.” Read all about the ramifications of the raid — which one blogger calls “The Shot Heard ‘Round The Hill” — from The Associated Press, The Washington Post and The Hill.

Conservative blogger (and law professor) Instapundit is skeptical about the GOP’s constitutional concern: “The separation of powers argument seems to be pretty weak to me.”

Meanwhile, The New York Times takes a look at how the Jefferson bribery probe has cast a shadow over Democratic attempts to hang the “culture of corruption” sign around Republican necks. One influential liberal blog offers this advice to Democrats: “Tell Mr. Jefferson to resign immediately.” Jefferson said Monday he won’t.

And the GOP Speaker Dennis Hastert makes matters worse.

ASSociated Press: House speaker protests to Bush over raid

House Speaker Dennis Hastert complained directly to President Bush on Tuesday about the FBI’s unprecedented raid on Rep. William Jefferson (news, bio, voting record)’s office, while officials said senior Democrats worked to ease the Louisiana lawmaker out of a powerful committee assignment, at least temporarily.

“My opinion is that they took the wrong path,” Hastert, R-Ill., told reporters after meeting with Bush in the White House. “They need to back up, and we need to go from there.”

Good God has the GOP House leadership lost its mind?

The FBI has this Democrat member of Congress on TAPE taking bribes and discovered cold hard cash wrapped in tin foil in his fraking freezer and the FBI is wrong to serve a search warrant signed by a federal judge?

    Give me a DAMN break.

And readers wonder why Flap says NOT ONE DIME and NOT ONE VOTE for these fools.

California Congressman Randy “Duke” Cunningham Admits Guilt and Resigns

A tearful Representative Randy “Duke” Cunningham

The ASSociated Press has Calif. Congressman Admits Taking Bribes

Rep. Randy “Duke” Cunningham pleaded guilty Monday to conspiracy and tax charges and tearfully resigned from office, admitting he took $2.4 million in bribes to steer defense contracts to conspirators.

Cunningham, 63, entered pleas in U.S. District Court to charges of conspiracy to commit bribery, mail fraud and wire fraud, and tax evasion for underreporting his income in 2004.

Cunningham answered “yes, Your Honor” when asked by U.S. District Judge Larry Burns if he had accepted bribes from someone in exchange for his performance of official duties.

Later, at a news conference, he wiped away tears as he announced his resignation.

“I can’t undo what I have done but I can atone,” he said.

    Shameful!

Cunningham can receive up to ten years in federal prison.

    He forfeits his home.

Louis Freeh Watch: Who is Telling the Truth?

    Ok!

So, who are you going to believe?

Matt Drudge has CLINTON AIDES BATTLE FREEH OVER ’60 MINUTES,’ BOOK.

Under strong pressure from former President Bill Clinton’s advisers, CBS’s ”60 Minutes” has agreed to read a statement denying an explosive charge being made on Sunday nght’s program by former FBI director Louis Freeh, the WASHINGTON POST reports.

In the statement, Samuel “Sandy” Berger, Clinton’s national security adviser, challenges Freeh’s assertion that Clinton failed to press Saudi Crown Prince Abdullah to cooperate with an investigation of the 1996 bombing of Khobar Towers in that country, and used the occasion to ask for a contribution to his presidential library. The Saudis made such a donation last year _ six years after the 1998 meeting.

Berger, who was at the meeting, said: “The president strongly raised the need for Saudi officials to cooperate with us on the investigation into the attack on Khobar Towers at the time when the FBI was attempting to gain access to the suspects. The president did not raise in any fashion the issue of his library.”

Clinton spokesman Jay Carson said he told CBS’s Mike Wallace that he had supportive accounts from five other former officials at the meeting, including those briefed about a private conversation between Clinton and Abdullah.

“The fair journalistic question is why they didn’t call and get comments for their story from people who were in the room, such as Sandy Berger, and why they took until Friday afternoon to get that done,” said Lanny Davis, a former White House lawyer, who tried to persuade ”60 Minutes” producer Jeff Fager to allow him or another Clinton spokesman to appear on Sunday night’s segment.

Carson, who called the Freeh book “a total work of fiction.”

Is this a media bias problem with 60 Minutes again?

Is this a Clinton control the media problem?

Or is Freeh lying to sell his book?

Who is hiding the ball here?

Old Political HACK Watch: Ron Dellums to Run for Oakland Mayor

The Oakland Tribune has Ex-rep. thrills backers by entering Oakland mayoral race

Vowing to eradicate poverty and turn Oakland into a model city, former U.S. Rep. Ronald Dellums stepped out of retirement Friday and into the 2006 race for mayor of Oakland.

“If Ron Dellums running for mayor gives you hope, then let’s get on with it,” he said, fighting back tears and unleashing a wave of deafening cheers from the several hundred people packed into the theater at Laney College to hear his decision.

Apparently in Oakland – Old Politicians do NOT fade away but live to run for another office.

Dellums would replace former California Governor Jerry Brown, a candidate for General Attorney General in 2006 whose term expires in January 2007.
