Updated: American Al Qaeda Spokesman Adam Gadahn Arrested in Pakistan
Two Pakistani officers and a government official said Sunday that an American charged with treason for working with al Qaeda had been captured, a development that could deliver another significant blow in the U.S.-led battle against the terror network.
U.S. defense, intelligence and law enforcement officials could not immediately verify the reported detention of Adam Gadahn, a 31-year-old spokesman for al Qaeda who has appeared on videos threatening the West, including one that emerged earlier Sunday.
The reported arrest of Gadahn follows the recent detention of several Afghan Taliban commanders in Karachi, including the group’s No. 2. Those detentions have been seen as a sign that Pakistan, which has been criticized as an untrustworthy ally, was cooperating more fully with Washington.
Some observers were cautious about giving credence to the claim that Gadahn was in custody as reports emerged that the man arrested might instead be a Taliban militant leader. There was no way of independently verifying the arrest or identity, and detentions of terror suspects in Pakistan are often surrounded by conflicting reports.
CBS News was told by sources in the Pakistan government that it was Gadahn, even after U.S. officials refused to confirm it was the California native for whom a $1 million reward has been posted.
Later, CBS News’ Farhan Bokhari in Islamabad reported that earlier reports the detained individual was Gadahn proved false. According to a Pakistan security official who spoke with CBS News on condition of anonymity, the arrested individual is in fact “a Taliban militant leader who is known as Abu Yahya.”
The official said evidence compiled from an interrogation of the suspect and information exchanged with U.S. officials verified the man’s identify.

He was arrested in the sprawling southern metropolis of Karachi in recent days, two officers who took part in the operation said. A senior government official also confirmed the arrest, but said it happened Sunday. The discrepancy could not immediately be resolved.
They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information.
The intelligence officials said Gadahn was being interrogated by Pakistani officials. Pakistani agents and those from the CIA work closely on some operations in Pakistan, but it was not clear if any Americans were involved in the operation or questioning.
In the past, Pakistan has handed over some al-Qaida suspects arrested on its soil to the United States.
President Obama should immediately press Pakistan to release Gadahn to American authorities and transport his sorry ass to Super Max prison in Colorado until he is tried for treason.

Update: Danish Cartoonist Kurt Westergaard Attacked by Somali Linked to Radical Islamic al-Shabab and al Qaeda
++++++Update+++++More on last night’s attack on Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard:Danish police intelligence said they believed the “attempted assassination … is terror related” and accused the man, who was not named, of having links with Somalia’s al-Shabaab militant group as well as al Qaeda militants.
The cartoonist, 74, pushed a panic button, fled to a safe room and was unhurt when police arrived. His grand-daughter was in the house during the attack. Police could not confirm reports he had tried to break down the safe room door with the axe.
Westergaard, who in 2005 depicted Prophet Mohammad with a bomb in his turban, has been under police protection since his caricatures of the Prophet led to death threats.
The Somali man appeared in court on a stretcher with a hand and leg in plaster casts due to gunshot wounds from a police officer who had narrowly dodged the axe thrown at him by the intruder who was trying to evade arrest, police said.
The accused did not speak in court, but denied the charges through his lawyer.
The Security and Intelligence Service PET, a department of the national police, said in a statement: “It is PET’s impression that the attempted assassination of the cartoonist Kurt Westergaard is terror related.”
The man, the PET said, “has close relations to the Somali terror organization al-Shabaab and al Qaeda leaders in East Africa, and he is also suspected of having been involved in terror-related activities during his stay in East Africa.”
It also accused him of involvement in a terror-related network with links to Denmark, where he has a residence permit.
Danish Prime Minister Lars Lokkee Rasmussen siad that the attack was “an attack on our open society and democracy.” The Danish court remanded the man in custody for four weeks (two weeks or which are to be spent in isolation) to allow further investigation before a trial. He is charged with two counts of attempted murder and his next court hearing is January 27th.
At the hearing the police can request to hold him longer or proceed to a trial.

Note that Al-Shabab spokesman Sheikh Ali Muhamud Rage told the AFP New Agency: “We appreciate the incident in which a Muslim Somali boy attacked the devil who abused our prophet Mohammed and we call upon all Muslims around the world to target the people like” him.”
Danish Cartoonist Kurt Westergaard
Well, the radical Islamists tried to get him after all.Danish police have shot and wounded a man at the home of Kurt Westergaard, whose cartoon depicting the Prophet Muhammad sparked an international row.
Mr Westergaard was at home in Aarhus when a man broke in and threatened him. He pressed a panic button and police entered the house and shot the man.
Danish officials said the intruder was a 28-year-old Somali linked to the radical Islamist al-Shabab militia.
The cartoon, printed in 2005, prompted violent protests the following year.
One of 12 cartoons published in the Danish newspaper Jyllands Posten, it depicted the Prophet Muhammad with a bomb in his turban.
In 2006 the paper apologised for the cartoons, but other European media reprinted them.
Danish embassies were then attacked by Muslims around the world and dozens killed in riots.
Mr Westergaard went into hiding amid threats to his life, but emerged last year saying he wanted to live as normal a life as possible.
His house has been heavily fortified and is under close police protection.
Mr Westergaard told Jyllands-Posten that the man had entered his house by smashing a window with a hammer and had shouted in broken English that he wanted to kill him.
And, all of this for what?

The world awaits President Obama’s decision on troop deployments in Afghanistan tomorrow. There have been more leaks and trial baloons floated over the Thanksgivng weekend.Now, there is discussion of an EXIT STRATEGY.
President Obama plans to lay out a time frame for winding down the American involvement in the war in Afghanistan when he announces his decision this week to send more forces, senior administration officials said Sunday.
Although the speech was still in draft form, the officials said the president wanted to use the address at the United States Military Academy at West Point on Tuesday night not only to announce the immediate order to deploy roughly 30,000 more troops, but also to convey how he intends to turn the fight over to the Kabul government.
“It’s accurate to say that he will be more explicit about both goals and time frame than has been the case before and than has been part of the public discussion,†said a senior official, who requested anonymity to discuss the speech before it is delivered. “He wants to give a clear sense of both the time frame for action and how the war will eventually wind down.â€
The officials would not disclose the time frame. But they said it would not be tied to particular conditions on the ground nor would it be as firm as the current schedule for withdrawing troops in Iraq, where Mr. Obama has committed to withdrawing most combat units by August and all forces by the end of 2011.
Officials of one allied nation who have been extensively briefed on the president’s plan said, however, that Mr. Obama would describe how the American presence would be ratcheted back after the buildup, while making clear that a significant American presence in Afghanistan would remain for a long while. That is designed in part to signal to Pakistan that the United States will not abandon the region and to allay Pakistani fears that India will fill the vacuum created as America pulls back.
Well, it appears that the President is giving lip service to our troops, the Afghans and the Pakistanis. In order to appease, the far left of the Democrat Party he might as well announce a retreat and/or a withdrawal. The Obama Administratrion is no longer committed to the Global War on Terror – let the fireworks begin.
The terrorists have won and MORE innocent people will die.

Day By Day November 18, 2009 – It’s Who You Know Who Blows
The idea of a capital trial for Khalid Sheikh Mohammed of Al Qaeda and 9/11 infamy is pure folly. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said it best about the flap:Returning some of the Guantanamo detainees to New York City for trial, specifically Khalid Shaikh Mohammed, has now brought us full circle — we have regressed to a pre-9/11 mentality with respect to Islamic extremist terrorism. Khalid Shaikh Mohammed should be treated like the war criminal he is and tried in a military court. He is not just another murderer, or even a mass murderer. He murdered as part of a declared war against us — America.
This is the same mistake we made with the 1993 terrorists who attacked the World Trade Center. We treated them like domestic criminals, when in fact they were terrorists. In the dangerous world we live in today, a nation unable to identify and properly define its enemies is a nation in danger.
Chris, I don’t think that even Chicago would want the trial or subsequent incarceration of these war criminals. But, a jury of Al Qaeda’s peers is a little harsh – unless you mean President Obama’s former pastor Jeremiah Wright and domestic terrorists William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.
Maybe you have a point…….

Former Democratic Party and Hillary Clinton fundraiser has been sentenced to 24 years in prison today on federal charges – separate from his earlier California convictions.Former Democratic fundraiser Norman Hsu was sentenced to more than 24 years in prison Tuesday by a judge who accused him of funding his fraud with a “conniving use of the political process.”
U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero sentenced Hsu to 20 years in prison for his guilty plea to fraud charges and another four years and four months in prison for his conviction at trial for breaking campaign finance laws.
The judge said Hsu stole more than $50 million from hundreds of investors in a 10-year fraud by winning their confidence with a pristine reputation, even as he ripped them off in a complex Ponzi scheme, a recipe that the judge noted fits many white collar crimes.
He called Hsu a “wolf in sheep’s clothing.”
He said his “conniving use of the political process to fund his fraud” made his crimes “much more sinister and reprehensible.”
Before he was sentenced, Hsu apologized.
His donations became an embarrassment for Hillary Rodham Clinton’s presidential campaign. His arrest led Clinton to return more than $800,000 to donors linked to Hsu.
Wonder if his hard-won Democrat friends, like Bill and Hillary will send him a cake while he is sitting in Club Fed?

Another Major Democratic Party and Clinton Political Donor Charged and Arrested

Talk about a culture of corruption.Hassan Nemazee, chairman of Nemazee Capital Corp. and a fundraiser for President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, was arrested on charges he used phony documents to trick Citigroup Inc. into lending him as much as $74 million.
Nemazee got the loan by telling Citibank he held accounts with hundreds of millions of dollars that could serve as collateral, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said today in a statement. The financier used fake addresses and phone numbers controlled by him to mislead the bank, prosecutors said.
The accounts “either never existed or had been closed years before Nemazee submitted the documents referencing those accounts,†Bharara said in the statement.
Nemazee, 59, repaid the loan to Citibank yesterday, a day after he was interviewed by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents, prosecutors said. The interview took place at Newark Liberty International Airport as Nemazee was checking in for a flight to Rome.
Another favorite fundraiser of the Clinton’s, Norman Hsu is in prison on a California conviction and awaits sentencing on his federal campaign finance fraud conviction.In the 2008 presidential campaign, Nemazee raised at least $100,000 for Clinton, and then went on to bring in at least $500,000 for Obama after he defeated her in the primary campaign, according to the Washington watchdog group Public Citizen. Clinton is now secretary of state.

Al Qaeda Says They Would Use Pakistani Nukes Against United States
Al Qaeda leader in Afghanistan Mustafa abu al-Yazid making statements from an unknown location
Well, Duh…..If it were in a position to do so, Al Qaeda would use Pakistan’s nuclear weapons in its fight against the United States, a top leader of the group said in remarks aired on Sunday.
Pakistan has been battling al Qaeda’s Taliban allies in the Swat Valley since April after their thrust into a district 100 km (60 miles) northwest of the capital raised fears the nuclear-armed country could slowly slip into militant hands.
“God willing, the nuclear weapons will not fall into the hands of the Americans and the mujahideen would take them and use them against the Americans,” Mustafa Abu al-Yazid, the leader of al Qaeda’s in Afghanistan, said in an interview with Al Jazeera television.
Abu al-Yazid was responding to a question about U.S. safeguards to seize control over Pakistan’s nuclear weapons in case Islamist fighters came close to doing so.
“We expect that the Pakistani army would be defeated (in Swat) … and that would be its end everywhere, God willing.”
Asked about the group’s plans, the Egyptian militant leader said: “The strategy of the (al Qaeda) organisation in the coming period is the same as in the previous period: to hit the head of the snake, the head of tyranny — the United States.
“That can be achieved through continued work on the open fronts and also by opening new fronts in a manner that achieves the interests of Islam and Muslims and by increasing military operations that drain the enemy financially.”
The United States damn well better have sufficient assets in the area to prevent the loss of those nukes in Palistan. Or pre-emptively, America should go ito Pakistan and take them. Or, at the very least render them inactive.

MORONS in Congress Enjoy Speed Reader at Taxpayers Expense
Democrats in the House Energy and Commerce Committee have hired a speed reader, in case Republicans request for the more than 900 page bill to be read aloud. Invoking their procedural right to have the bill read aloud could advance the Republican’s plan to stall a vote on the bill. Committee Chairman Henry Waxman wants the bill voted out of the committee before Congress breaks for its Memorial Day recess next week.Members of Congress on both side of the aisle should get REAL and stop wasting the public’s time and coin on MORONIC activities.
