Day By Day January 5, 2009 – Attention Please!
Javier sounds more like California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger than RNC Chairman Michael Steele. But, both are needy politicians.Chris, Michael Steele with all of his short-comings is still a better choice than the Senator Jim DeMint clone of Katon Dawson – for very oibvious reasons.

Ken Blackwell Comes Out With a Long Knife for Michael Steele; Update: Mike Huckabee is troubled by Steele Abortion Comments
+++++Update+++++Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee expresses his disappointment with Michael Steele
Comments attributed to Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele are very troubling and despite his clarification today the party stands to lose many of its members and a great deal of its support in the trenches of grassroots politics. Since 1980, our party has been steadfast and principled in believing in the dignity and worth of every human life. We have supported a Constitutional amendment to protect life and the party
has taken the position that no one individual has the supreme right to own another person in totality including the right to take that life. For Chairman Steele to even infer that taking a life is totally left up to the individual is not only a reversal of Republican policy and principle, but it’s a violation of the most basic of human rights–the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. His statement today helps, but doesn’t explain why he would ever say what he did in the first place. The Republican National Committee Chairman field, January 2009
Right now, Mike Duncan does NOT look so bad.You know the Flap over RNC Chairman Michael Steele’s interview with GQ and his comments on abortion – after the disaster of criticizing Rush Limbaugh and equating the GOP convention attendess with Nazis.
Ken Blackwell:“Chairman Steele, as the leader of America’s Pro-Life conservative party, needs to re-read the Bible, the U.S. Constitution, and the 2008 GOP Platform. He then needs to get to work — or get out of the way.”
Flap would say that Steele is on a very short leash, remembering Ken Blackwell’s endorsement of Steele is what lead Steele to victory over Katon Dawson.
The long GOP knives are out for Steele.

Michael Steele and the Katon Dawson Republican National Committee Coup
Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Michael Steele speaks after being elected the first black Republican National Committee chairman in an election by the RNC during their winter meetings in Washington, January 30, 2009
There is more about Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele being on thin ice. And, guess who is instigating the FLAP?Katon Dawson, who came in second to Steele in January.
Republican insiders tell Political Wire that a no confidence vote on RNC Chairman Michael Steele is likely to be called after the NY-20 special election on March 31 — regardless of whether Republicans win the seat or not.
Katon Dawson, who came in second in the January RNC vote, is said to be quietly organizing a vote and is getting the support of several state party chairmen who want to dump Steele.
Flap agrees with Jim Geraghty over at National Review that Steele will NOT be replaced no matter what happens in the New York 20th Congressional race.
However, if the FBI investigation into his sister and his 2006 Senate campaign sprouts new legs, Steele could be forced to resign.
Probably much to the relief of the old guard on the RNC.
But, the next in line will NOT be Katon Dawson, despite his machinations.

South Carolina Republican Chairman Katon Dawson Implicated in Alleged GOP Blackmail Plot?
South Carolina Republican Chairman Katon Dawson
A reader dropped this piece on Flap: Alleged GOP Blackmail Plot ExposedLast year, an unidentified blackmailer allegedly went to the home of S.C. Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson with information of a highly personal and sensitive nature involving a prominent South Carolina Republican official.
Multiple theories exist as to the identity of this GOP official (and the nature of the information ostensibly provided to Dawson), but for the purposes of this narrative and on the advice of our attorneys we are sticking exclusively to what has been confirmed to us by law enforcement personnel, not political sources.
After divulging the nature of the incriminating material, the blackmailer is said to have requested $200,000 dollars to furnish all copies of the material in their possession to Dawson.
According to our sources, after viewing a sample of the material and receiving the extortion demand, Dawson reportedly told the blackmailer to give him twenty-four hours to come up with the money.
The next day, the blackmailer is said to have returned to Dawson’s home, only they didn’t receive the money – but were instead taken away and given a savage beating by three SLED agents.
Following the beat down, the blackmailer was reportedly informed that “this is what happens†to people who attempt to extort money from elected officials in South Carolina.
They were also reportedly informed that they had 24 hours to leave the state and never return – an “offer†the blackmailer accepted.
Katon Dawson has some ‘plaining to do – especially to the assembled Republican National Committee which is meeting and selecting a new Chairman this week. Why did Dawson not report the extortion attempt and was he behind the “VIGILANTE” justice?
Flap has opined that Dawson should withdraw as a candidate for Chairman of the Republican National Committee.
This is just another nail in his coffin.
Update:
Then, there is this fake/parody USA Today headliner (circulating anonymously around GOP circles) which speaks to the same issues as Flap has:

Should South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson Withdraw as a Candidate for Chair of the Republican National Committee?
South Carolina Republican Chairman Katon Dawson
The answer is YES.Three Strikes and you are OUT.
State GOP chairman Katon Dawson, who is campaigning to lead the national Republican Party organization, has resigned a 12-year membership in a whites-only Columbia country club.
Dawson said last week his continued membership at Forest Lake Club could become a distraction to his efforts to help win elections for Republicans in South Carolina.
With the upcoming inauguration of the first African-American President of the United States does the Republican Party want to deal with this “BAGGAGE.” Not really a winning message, is it?
Gee, POTUS would NOT be allowed to play golf there?
Katon Dawson should withdraw his candidacy.

South Carolina GOP Chairman Katon Dawson to Run for Chairmanship of Republican National Committee
South Carolina Republican Chairman Katon Dawson
Fail.South Carolina Republican Party Chairman Katon Dawson told supporters Monday he will seek the chairmanship of the Republican National Committee, pledging to help rebuild the party after devastating losses on Election Day.
All I know about him is that he’s an egomaniac, if the South Carolina GOP homepage is any measure.
Oh. That Was Fast: Vinty at DPUD is not impressed. Apparently there’s a country-club membership involved. Hmmm.
Flap saw him on Fox News this morning and was NOT impressed as the voice and face of the national Republican Party.
