Day By Day March 26, 2010 – Call It

Day By Day by Chris Muir

The LEFT and the Democratic Party NEED a health care reform narrative that demonizes someone or something because Obamacare is a disaster. The worst, including massive tax increases, bureaucracy and government waste are yet to come.

    And, come it WILL.

The Easter recess will demonstrate as to how disastrous Obamacare has been to the Democrat Congressional majority. Watch the district protests and the number of incumbent retirements.

Poiitical violence regarding Obamacare is NOT acceptable and should be rejected in all circumstances. Obamacare will be repealed and revised at the ballot box and the Congress. There is little doubt.

John Hinderaker over at Powerline has an excellent piece.

Today’s big news story, along with the epic debate on health care taking place in the Senate, is the Democrats’ claim that some of their Congressmen have been threatened with violence after voting for the government’s takeover of health care. Steny Hoyer claims that more than ten House members “have reported incidents of threats or other forms of harassment.” He also admits that figure is “just an estimate,” which I guess means he made it up. Nor is it clear what “other forms of harassment” means; angry phone calls from constituents, perhaps.

We condemn political violence in virtually all circumstances; certainly in all circumstances that could arise in our democracy. Threats of violence, sadly, are not uncommon in politics; let alone “harassment.” Even insignificant conservatives like us have been threatened with violence on several occasions, and the linked article notes that Jim Bunning received threats after he temporarily held up the extension of unemployment benefits a few weeks ago.

The current threats (assuming they are real, as I assume some of them are) are being played up in the press because the Democrats want to dampen the anger that has erupted over their adoption of a government medicine program through a series of legislative maneuvers that are in some respects unprecedented. It is important for the Democrats and their press minions to understand that there are many millions of Americans who regard Obamacare not just as misguided public policy, but as an illegitimate usurpation of power. I am one of the many millions who are outraged at the Left’s attempt to destroy the private health care system that has served my family so well, and who regard Obamacare as illegitimate.

Enough of the name calling and demonizing of Obamacare. Obama’s health care reform legislation is bad for the country and I doubt that the worst parts of it will ever be implemented. Plus, the national Republican Party will be able to run against it in the 2010 and 2012 elections and win a goodly number of seats in Congress back from the Democrats.

Is there any wonder why the LEFT wants to brand Tea Party activists and other Obamcare opponents as racist? Maybe they can salvage some seats in November.

Remember the worst parts of Obamacare, including the cuts in Medicare and tax increases do not take effect until after the Presidential re-election campaign of Obama in 2012. Unfortunately, the economic malaise the country is in will not improve with Obamacare looming in the future.

Look for massive revisions in the legislation starting in February 2011.

Obamacare as envisioned in the Senate Bill has now been signed into law. President Obama and the Democrat Congressional leaders had a pep rally style bill signing in the East Room of the White House. Not one Republican member of the Congress was invited to attend. Of course, NOT ONE Republican voted for this monstrous increase in government entitlement spending.

The American health care debate will now continue as state’s Attorney General’s sue in the courts to stop implementation of the law and as the Congress will undoubtedly change in November.

    Stay tuned……

It appears NOW that the Democrat Congressional leaders have decided to drop “deem and pass” for a separate vote on the U.S. Senate health bill (Obamacare). Perhaps it is the American voters outrage or more than likely it is due to constitutional issues and a possible court challenge.

    Whatever……

A few days ago I said that this Obamacare health legislation may pass this round but the fight will not cease. And, the Democrat members of Congress who vote for this Senate bill and which is then passed via reconciliation back in the U.S. Senate will lose their seats in the next election. Most of this Obamacare legisation will not be around a year from now as will the Democrat Party majority in the House and perhaps the Senate.

The White House and the Democrat Congressional leadership may celebrate tomorrow but will pay the price in November.

Well, it looks like President Obama and Democrat Congressional Leaders will win and pass the Senate Obamacare bill (without a vote?!). But, this will NOT end the debate or fight over health care reform.

As a result of this victory, it is more than likely that the Democrats will lose control of the House of Representatives and perhaps even the U.S. Senate in November. The Republican Party aided by the Tea Party movement will make repeal and/or modification of Obamacare central to their poitical platform and beat the Democrats unmercifully over the months before the election.

The American people do not favor what President Obama is selling (a government takeover of health care) and if his minions in the Congress do not represent their views, they will simply vote them out of office.

    President Obama will be next.

Day By Day by Chris Muir

Chris, the unfortunate aspect of a third party is that it always leads to a leftward leaning candidate to win. Remember Bill Clinton, Goerge HW Bush and Ross Perot?

There are too many split votes and since the Electoral College is a statewide winner take all election, it makes it real tough for a third party candidate to win – even one state.

In Congressional districts, the state election rules favor the two major parties and make it difficult to even get on the ballot.

The result of Obamacare passing will be massive Tea Party tax and illegal immigration protests, physicans retiring and hospitals closing. For the Republican party, it will mean the regaining of the majority in at least the House.

    Stay tuned.

If there is no vote by Friday, I suspect Obamacare is dead.

Have you heard the latest Obamacare passage machination?

Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi may try to pass the Senate Obamacare bill without voting on it.

After laying the groundwork for a decisive vote this week on the Senate’s health-care bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested Monday that she might attempt to pass the measure without having members vote on it.

Instead, Pelosi (D-Calif.) would rely on a procedural sleight of hand: The House would vote on a more popular package of fixes to the Senate bill; under the House rule for that vote, passage would signify that lawmakers “deem” the health-care bill to be passed.

The tactic — known as a “self-executing rule” or a “deem and pass” — has been commonly used, although never to pass legislation as momentous as the $875 billion health-care bill. It is one of three options that Pelosi said she is considering for a late-week House vote, but she added that she prefers it because it would politically protect lawmakers who are reluctant to publicly support the measure.

“It’s more insider and process-oriented than most people want to know,” the speaker said in a roundtable discussion with bloggers Monday. “But I like it,” she said, “because people don’t have to vote on the Senate bill.”

Republicans quickly condemned the strategy, framing it as an effort to avoid responsibility for passing the legislation, and some suggested that Pelosi’s plan would be unconstitutional.

“It’s very painful and troubling to see the gymnastics through which they are going to avoid accountability,” Rep. David Dreier (Calif.), the senior Republican on the House Rules Committee, told reporters. “And I hope very much that, at the end of the day, that if we are going to have a vote, we will have a clean up-or-down vote that will allow the American people to see who is supporting this Senate bill and who is not supporting this Senate bill.”

Obviously, President Obama and the Democrat House leadership do NOT now possess the votes to pass the Senate bill. If this procedure is used there will be a court challenge of the process and Obamacare will be thrown into the federal judiciary and languish there for months.

At this point, wouldn’t it be better for the President to just move on and concentrate on the economy and jobs?

As I have maintained all along, Obamacare as it is now promoted will NEVER become engrained in American law.

Even if Speaker Pelosi can put together the number of votes this week to move the legislation forward and even if Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid uses reconciliation to pass it in the Senate, the American people will rise up and force a revision before it takes full effect.

There will be tax increases and budget machinations in the future in order to make Obamacare work – or survive. These will NEVER pass the Congress.

Small health care reforms are achievable. A major health care overhaul with a greater governmental role has never been in the cards.
