CA-Sen Poll Watch: Is Carly Fiorina Beginning to SURGE in the Polls?

Republican Nominee Carly Fiorina and California Democrat Senator Barbara Boxer

Very possible after the past few polls.

And, then there is the graph:

Looks to me that Fiorina is surging or closing the gap with about 13 days to go before the election.

Is there any wonder why President Obama is campaigning for Senator Barbara Boxer at USC on Friday afternoon and why his wife, Michelle is also doing events for her?

CA-Sen Video Updated: U.S. Chamber of Commerce Runs Ads on Barbara Boxer Bouncing Checks

boxer40300380 CA Sen: Barbara Boxer THE BOUNCER

The television ad which I have seen on NBC, Los Angeles is “on air” at least in Los Angeles County. You can view it here.I’ll embed the video when the Chamber decides to allow it.But, you remember the FLAP.

Well, shocker, Senator Barbara Boxer when she was in the House of Representatives was the 24th most egregious of the miscreants.

The PBS onlineNewshour summarizes the House Banking Scandal, also known as Rubbergate: In 1992, many House members were suspected of bouncing checks from accounts they held at the so-called House Bank a loose operation that allowed member of Congress to cash their checks but kept shoddy records and often were quite delayed in recording deposits or withdrawals. Although the lawmakers had broken no laws and many did not even know they were bouncing checks, several took advantage of the bank system and many voters viewed the scandal as a blatant abuse of power. Of the 296 sitting representatives and 59 former members who had overdrafted their personal accounts in the preceding 39 months, the House Ethics Committee released a list of the 24 worst abusers.

Boxer was among the top 24 involved in the House bank scandal. On March 1, 1992 the Sacramento Bee quoted Boxer as admitting she didnt pay enough attention to her House bank account. More specifically, that meant 143 bad checks totaling $41,417 over a three-year period that she had written on the House bank.

    Here is the video:

For 28 years, Barbara Boxer has been bad with our money. Remember when she bounced 143 checks in the Congressional bank scandal? One hundred forty three bad checks. Now she’s bankrupting the Treasury–voting to add trillions to the national debt; raising taxes; driving away jobs. Twenty eight years of wasteful spending. Twenty eight years of higher taxes. Twenty eight years of killing jobs. Tell Senator Boxer to stop killing jobs.

CA-Sen Video: Barbara Boxer Lacks a “Ground Game” Says Former San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown

I am not really surprised as the Democrats have not really been motivated like they were when Obama was running two years ago.

Just got back from Willie Brown’s annual pre-election breakfast in San Francisco — a place for donors and pols to schmooze. Even Guv Schwarzenegger showed up (to a standing O, no less).

After we fought through the line of folks there to kiss Willie’s ring afterwards, we asked the Da Mayor about something one of the morning’s speakers, former Gov. Gray Davis campaign czar Garry South, said about the lack of a Democratic ground operation.

South, who also ran Brown’s erstwhile primary opponent Gavin Newsom’s gov campaign, also praised Republican Meg Whitman for setting up an “operation unlike anything we’ve ever seen in California.”

Willie agreed — about the Dems.

“I do not believe that Jerry Brown has a ground operation,” Willie said. He also wonders if it is a good idea for the Dems to rely so heavily on labor for their ground operation. We wrote about labor’s efforts microtargeting efforts here.

South told the gathering that unless Jerry Brown has a lead of 7 or 8 points going into election day, “we’re in serious trouble.”

A Labor based GOTV (Get Out the Vote) campaign for Barbara Boxer will NOT be as effective as the Obama ground operation in 2008. How effective it is, may very well decide the election of Carly Fiorina.

If the polls show a few points, within the margin of error, lead for Barbara Boxer going into the last weekend, she is likely toast.

Ca-Sen Video: Carly Fiorina Welcomes Joe Biden Back to California

California U.S. Senate candidate Carly Fiorina video: “ZERO”

Carly Carly fiorina is welcoming Vice President Joe Biden back to California in order to campaign and raise money for Democrat Senator Barbara Boxer.

    From the press release:

The Carly for California campaign today welcomed Vice President Joe Biden back to California for the second time in the last month in yet another attempt to rescue Barbara Boxer’s political career by launching a new Web video titled “Zero,” highlighting Biden and Boxer’s refusal to admit the failure of the economic stimulus plan they championed and their utter lack of understanding about what it takes to create jobs for the people they were elected to serve.

“Joe Biden and Barbara Boxer are proof that more time spent in elected office does not translate into the ability to create more jobs. After more than six decades in the insular world of Washington politics, Biden and Boxer still don’t understand that government doesn’t create jobs – and that’s bad news for the 2.2 million out-of-work Californians who are paying the price for the failed policies of Barbara Boxer,” said Carly for California Press Secretary Andrea Saul. “But instead of looking to the private sector to stimulate the kind of long-term job creation our nation needs to put our fellow Americans back to work, Joe Biden and Barbara Boxer are yet again fighting side by side to save one job and one job only: Barbara Boxer’s.”

Wonder if Slow Joe is up for a GAFFE today?

CA-Sen: Rep. Maxine Waters Refunds Sen. Barbara Boxer Campaign Cash – Trying to Clean Up Her Act Prior to Ethics Trial

California U.S. Senator and California Congresswoman Maxine Waters in July 2010

You remember the FLAP in which Los Angeles area Congresswoman has been caught in an ethically dubious pay to play scheme regarding her daughter’s campaign/slate mailer company.

Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Chair of the Senate Ethics Committee, has paid some $30,000 since 2004 for the endorsement of embattled Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) in the context of a scheme that critics charge is unethical and amounts to Waters using her political station to benefit her family members.According to the Washington Times, Waters “has turned political endorsements into a family business, using federal election laws to charge California candidates and political causes to include their names as her personal picks on a sample ballot, or ‘slate mailer,’ she sends to as many as 200,000 South Central Los Angeles voters.”

The slate mailer business, it turns out, is run by Waters’ daughter, Karen, via her public relations firm.  Records show that Karen Waters’ firm has been paid more than $350,000 since 2004, and has billed a further $82,000 since California’s June primary, for its services in this regard.

Now, Citizens for Waters – 555 S Flower St Ste 4510 Los Angeles, California 900712420 has refunded monies ($1,217.35) back to Friends of Barbara Boxer.

    Why?

Could it possibly be because of Maxine Water’s upcoming ethics trial in the House?

A congressional panel set the stage Monday for an ethics trial for Rep. Maxine Waters, one of Los Angeles’ most enduring liberal politicians, over her actions involving a bank with ties to her husband that received federal bailout funds.

Without detailing the accusations, the House Ethics Committee released an investigative report that found “substantial reason” to believe that Waters may have violated ethics rules. The case centers on a meeting Waters set up in September 2008, during the financial crisis, between Treasury Department officials and representatives of minority-owned banks.

Or, Cleaning up the ol’ sleaze Maxine?

You’re probably familiar with Rep. Maxine Waters, the California Democrat who’s under investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegations that she used her position in Congress to ensure the U.S. Treasury Department would help out a bank where her husband was a stockholder and former director.

What you probably didn’t know is that Boxer has been sending large amounts of cash to Waters’s daughter for the past two cycles, and in exchange, Waters has been featuring Boxer prominently on her “slate mailer,” a sample ballot used by many voters in Waters’s South Central district.

In 2004, Boxer paid Rep. Waters’s daughter, Karen Waters, $25,000 to ensure her spot on the mailer; on June 2, Boxer’s campaign sent “Citizens for Waters” $5,000.

Back in December 2004, Melanie Sloan of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington told the Los Angeles Times, “It looks like congresswoman Waters is using her position to financially benefit her family members, and that is at the very least unethical. . . . You shouldn’t be making money off your mother’s endorsements.” Of course, by that point, Boxer and Waters had been reelected and it was too late for California voters to hold either accountable.

Or, afraid that without dotting I’s and crossing T’s will result in EVEN more fall out to Senator Boxer’s pay-off schemes with you and your family (in return for your endorsement and help in the Los Angeles African-American community) prior to the election on November 2nd.

Maxine and Barbara you can run but you can’t hide. By the way, as of today, Rep. Maxine Water’s name continues on Senator Barbara Boxer’s endorsement page – see it here.

Exit question: Will Boxer’s name appear on Waters’ slate mailer in respect to the November general election?

CA-Sen: John McCain Campaigns for Carly Fiorina and Disses Barbara Boxer

Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., wears a Navy hat given to him by a member of the Patriot Guard Rider as he and Republican senate candidate Carly Fiorina prepare for group picture in San Diego, Calif. on Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010

Arizona Republican Senator and 2008 Presidential candidate John McCain came out swinging against California Democrat Senator Barbara Boxer in San Diego today.

Former Republican presidential contender John McCain reunited with his onetime advisor Carly Fiorina on the campaign trail Saturday in San Diego, offering a blistering indictment of Barbara Boxer’s record on military issues and calling her the “most bitterly partisan, most anti-defense senator in the United States Senate today” — an assessment he said he’d made while having “the unpleasant experience” of serving with her.

“When you hear her say that she supports the men and women in the military, my friends, she does not,” said McCain, a former Navy pilot who was held as a prisoner of war in Vietnam for five and half years after his plane was shot down in 1967. “Because she has never supported the mission; she has never supported victory whether it be in Iraq, or Afghanistan, or anywhere else in the world. Barbara Boxer wants to wave the white flag of surrender and endanger this nation’s national security. It’s time she went back to San Francisco with [House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi.”

Appearing before an audience of several hundred veterans and supporters at the Veterans Museum in Balboa Park — where McCain, his wife Cindy, and Fiorina formed a tableau of red, white and blue on stage — the Arizona senator praised Fiorina’s business background and sought to reinforce her efforts to portray her rival’s voting record as anti-military.

Boxer has long been a hero of the anti-war movement after getting her start in politics advocating against the Vietnam War. She has called her vote against the Iraq War her proudest moment and vowed to keep the pressure on President Obama to bring troops home from Afghanistan.

Barbara Boxer’s Far Left anti-war record will unfortunately take a back seat to the California economy which is in terrible shape. It is the economy, stupid, and California voters will vote with their pocketbook.

Boxer is in deep trouble with these veterans and the average California voter who is scared about their well-being and that of their family.

Updated: CA-Sen Video: Barbara Boxer in Desperation Plays the Extremist Card

California Democrat U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer’s latest television ad: “Out of Touch”

Well, everyone knew this was going to come – Boxer going extremely negative in her political ads. And, using Sarah Palin – yeah, she is a nefarious character, isn’t she?

    Why?

    Desperation.

Figures released this afternoon show Boxer blowing $11 Million last quarter in campaign cash and then being in a dead heat with Carly Fiorina in the polls.

Also, look at some of the sources of the ad: The Sierra Club and Planned Parenthood – please.

Most of the claims from Boxer are so preposterous that California voters will say – huh? and/or what?

One, in the heat of a reelection campaign, Boxer will say just about anything so long as she can get away with it. And she usually can. Two, she is under extraordinary pressure from Fiorina, by far the strongest Republican candidate she’s ever faced. Three, Boxer is a tough, resourceful, and shrewd campaigner and not too haughty to correct a false statement when necessary to avert trouble.

Often that’s not necessary. Boxer, 69, makes so many dubious, untrue, hypocritical, or outlandish remarks in a single debate that most of them fly by without registering.

Carly Fiorina is NO extremist and Californians know it.

Anyway, here is the statement from the Carly Fiorina Campaign:

Barbara Boxer is clearly getting desperate as she continues to gain no traction in the polls after spending millions on special interest backed, misleading advertising. Not only is this newest ad based on patently false claims that bear little, if any connection to actual facts, but it completely ignores Barbara Boxers 28 years in Washington where she has established herself as one of the most extreme, partisan and ineffective members of the U.S. Senate, while at the same time becoming a multimillionaire, funneling hundred of thousands of dollars to members of her family and taking special stock deals the average Californian would never have access to. Her record is so dismal that even her own hometown newspaper refused to endorse her for a fourth term saying that shes known for little other than delivering partisan shots. Barbara Boxer can try to run from the facts which are that under her watch taxes have gone up, our national debt is at record levels and more than 2.2 million Californians are unemployed, but she cannot hide behind false advertising. We demand that she immediately remove this ad from the airwaves and apologize to Carly, and California voters, for not only this deliberate and blatant distortion of reality, but also for her refusal to have an honest and serious debate about the issues during this crucial time for our nation.

CA-Sen Video: U.S. Chamber of Commerce To Air More Ads Against Barbara Boxer

U.S. Chamber of Commerce television ad: “28 Years”

The U.S. Chamber is going back “on air” to inform California voters about Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer.

We hear that the U.S. Chamber of Commerce — which has emerged as a big-time player in the midterm elections — is about to drop at least $1.25 million in negative TV ads next week against Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer next week.

Look for the spots to hit in LA, Fresno, Bakersfield, and Sacramento.

“We can neither confirm nor deny this,” the Chamber’s J.P. Fielder told us. But, he said, “All options are still on the table.” Asked whether the very close race — which Boxer is still slighty leads — is still in play, Fielder said: “Absolutely.”

That’s bad news for Boxer, who has already absorbed $3.2 million in Chamber TV ad pummeling.

I would expect even more independent expenditure money to come into California at the last minute since this race may determine control of the U.S. Senate for the GOP.

The race is a dead heat in the polls.
