Will San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom Deserve The Blame When California Proposition 8 Passes?

    gavin-newsom-prop-8
San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom has become the “poster boy” for the Yes on 8 Campaign to restore traditional marriage in California

Does Gavin Newsom deserve the blame from the homosexual community when California Proposition 8 passes next Tuesday? This is being asked in a gay publication.

San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom has been a tireless crusader for gay rights. It was he who, way back in 2000, began issuing marriage licenses in San Francisco.

Though those marriages were later annulled by the state, California’s Supreme Court this year ruled that gay folk should, in fact, have the right to marry, a decision that spurred the right to launch Proposition 8, which would reverse the Court’s ruling. Again, Newsom’s been campaigning against that measure and just this week shored up support against conservative “extremists.”

Obviously the right doesn’t like Newsom very much and have been using him as the poster child for gay-friendly politicians. This means, of course, that should Proposition 8 pass, Newsom’s ubiquitous image may take some of the blame.

Gavin Newsom’s statement in the video below was really the start of the Yes on 8 campaign.

And, Newsom’s statement “whether you like it or not” may very well become the mantra for traditional marriage ballot fights across the United States.

Mayor Newsom has been conspicuous by his absense in the No on Proposition 8 campaign since the May news conference. Yesterday, Newsome did travel to the Google Campus to speak on No on 8’s behalf but otherwise he has been on the down-lo.

Flap has it upon good authority, however, that there will be new Yes on 8 television ads ridiculing the San Francisco Mayor.

    So, blame?

You betcha, depending upon what happens next Tuesday.

Yes On California Proposition 8 Blogger Conference Call – Status of the Race

    protect-marriage-logo

    ProtectMarriage.com

Flap just got off a telephone blogger conference call with ProtectMarriage.com – Yes on 8 campaign manager Frank Schubert.

    Status of the race:

Polling indicates the race has a 97 % awareness level among California voters. When these voters are asked how they will vote it is:

    • 44 % – Yes
    • 44 % – No

When you read the voters the ballot label language the result is:

    • 48 % – Yes
    • 48 % No

So, the race is DEAD EVEN on both ways of counting which is a good position the Yes campaign feels to be in.

Frank Schubert:”If we are tied on Monday night then Yes on 8 will win by 4-8 points.”

    Why?

    For a couple of reasons:

    1. The history of polling on this issue suggests there is a percentage of people who do not accurately report they support traditional marriage. They do not want to say something that may be perceived as not politically correct. Historically, that polling percentage has averaged about 7 % if you look at all of the states where marriage has been on the ballot. “I don’t think it will be 7 per cent this time, more like 4 or 5 per cent bump that we will get…”
    2. Another reason why if Yes is tied or behind by a couple of points on Monday night is the ground operation that the Yes on 8 campaign has. We have a truly Presidential GOTV operation (Get Out The Vote). There are over 100,000 people who have committed to walk door to door to distribute targeted literature and doorknob hangers throughout the weekend and Monday and on Monday we will have as many as 5 people per precinct working to get the vote out – both going door to door or phoning voters who either have not voted or will be voting. This is a GOTV effort that has never been done in California before for a proposition.

Oh Yeah on Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell within fifteen minutes of the challenge offered up to debate the gay marriage issue, he delined. Shocker, isn’t it?

And, for the San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom fans, Newsom will make a repeat performance this weekend on television for the Yes on Proposition 8 campaign.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom to Run for California Governor?

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom points out the cheering crowds above to Phyllis Lyon, top right, and Del Martin, seated, after the same-sex couple was married at City Hall in San Francisco, Monday, June 16, 2008. The same-sex couple was the first to be legally married by the mayor

Mayor Gavin Newsom, the darling of the San Francisco homosexual community has established an exploratory committee to run for California Governor in 2010.

San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, a Democrat best known for his aggressive support of same-sex marriage, launched an exploratory committee Tuesday to consider a 2010 run for governor.

Newsom, 40, is the first Democrat to make a formal move toward replacing Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

“He’s taking the steps to put together the type of operation that can analyze the race in 2010 and make an informed decision,” said Newsom consultant Eric Jaye.

Newsom has a FAR LEFT constituency and personal baggage that will deny him the Democrat nomination. The frontrunner at this time has to be Attorney General and former California Governor Jerry Brown.

    Other likely Democrat candidates include:

    • Steve Westley – former California controllerand 2006 candidate for Governor
    • Antonio Villaraigosa – Mayor of Los Angeles
    • Jack O’Connell – State Schools Superintendent
    • Bill Lockyer – California Treasurer and former Attorney General

The GOP would relish a Newsom candidacy but it won’t happen.

Fugitive Democrat Fundraiser Norman Hsu’s California Contributions Under Scrutiny

    *****Update*****

Norman Hsu turns himself into authorities and is jailed.

A top Democratic fundraiser wanted as a fugitive in California turned himself in Friday to face a grand theft charge.

San Mateo County Superior Court Judge H. James Ellis ordered Norman Hsu handcuffed and held on $2 million bond. A bail hearing was scheduled for Sept. 5, at which the judge will consider reducing his bail to $1 million.

Hsu appeared in court accompanied by a lawyer and publicist, both of whom declined to say whether the New York apparel executive would immediately post bail. A warrant was issued for his arrest after he skipped the sentencing for a 1991 grand theft charge.

In the ensuing years, Hsu became a top donor to numerous Democratic candidates and was a fundraiser for presidential contender Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. He also had contributed to Sen. Barack Obama’s past Senate campaign and his political action committee.

Norman Hsu, a convicted felon fugitive and Democrat Fundraiser for Hillary Clinton and Senator Hillary Clinton

Well, they have been active in California state and local politics as well – to the tune of $53,000.

Let’s see who received the obviously TAINTED money:

Antonio Villaraigosa, Mayor of Los Angeles

California Attorney General Jerry Brown and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom

San Francisco District Attorney Kamala Harris

Former San Francisco Supervisor and now California Democrat Assemblywoman Fiona Ma. She represents Daly City where the Paw family residence is.

Rob Reiner’s “Pre-School for All” campaign, which became Proposition 82 on the June 2006 ballot

Former California Controller and Democrat candidate for Governor in 2006, Steve Westly

Former California Treasurer and Democrat nominee for California Governor in 2006, Phil Angelides

Hsu et. al. have also given considerable sums to the California Democrat Party.

According to state and local records, Hsu has given more than $53,000 to various political efforts in the state since 2004, including $27,600 to the state Democratic Party, $5,000 to 2006 gubernatorial hopeful Steve Westly and $10,000 to Hollywood director Rob Reiner’s “Pre-School for All” campaign, which became Proposition 82 on the June 2006 ballot.

The state party gave $26,600 of that money back three weeks after Hsu donated it in 2004, said Bob Mulholland, a party consultant.

“Mr. Hsu asked for the money to be returned, saying he had made the donation in error,” Mulholland said. “We haven’t returned the $1,000 he gave us earlier this year, but the party will be looking at that contribution.”

Calling the Federal Elections Commission and the California Fair Political Practices Commission, what in the hell have you been doing?

    Standard = NOTHING

Flap says there is a political scandal here involving offshore Chinese interests which are not only illegal but subversive to the American politcal system.

    Stay tuned…….

Jack O’Connell Watch: California Governor in 2010? Part 3

California Superintendent of Public Instruction, Jack O’Connell

Jack O’Connell gets a mention in today’s Dan Walter’s column.

Of course, Jack will test the waters burning Reed Hasting’s money but others also will:

    • Jerry Brown – current California Attorney General, former Mayor of Oakland and former California Governor.
    • Steve Westly – former California Controller who lost to Phil Angelides last year in the Democrat primary for Governor.
    • Phil Angelides – former California Treasurer and Democrat Party Chairman who lost to Arnold Schwarzenegger last year in the general election.
    • Gavin Newsom – current Mayor of San Francisco who admits to sleeping with his campaign manager’s wife and carrying on a sordid affair.
    • Antonio Villaraigosa – current Mayor of Los Angeles who admits to an affair with Mirthala Salinas, a Telemundo political reporter and who is in the middle of a nasty divorce.
    • John Garramendi – current Lt. Governor of California who many Democrat activists describe as yesterday’s news.
    • Bill Lockyer – current California Treasurer and former California Attorney General who flirted with the race against the Governator last year but was scared out by Angelides and Westly or was it Arnold’s poll numbers?.

So, who has the campaign resources to compete against high profile Jerry Brown?

    Steve Westly

Jack O’Connell Watch: California Governor in 2010? Part 2

The Sacramento Bee has picked up on Anthony York’s scoop on California Superinendent of Public Instruction’s Jack O’ Connell’s foray into 2010 Gubernatorial politics.

    The story:

Reed Hastings, the founder and CEO of Netflix has deposited almost $ 1 million into an independent expenditure account to propel O’Connell into the Governor’s race in 2010.

O’Connell is termed out in 2010 after serving eight years as California’s school chief.

    The quotes:

“Jack and Reed have a long history together,” said Mollie Culver, a political adviser to O’Connell. “A lot of Jack’s supporters have encouraged him to look at all of his options, including running for governor.”

Culver said fundraising is “always a major challenge, and it is very nice to have such friends encouraging him.”

    The probable opposition:

    • Jerry Brown – current California Attorney General, former Mayor of Oakland and former California Governor.
    • Steve Westly – former California Controller who lost to Phil Angelides last year in the Democrat primary for Governor.
    • Phil Angelides – former California Treasuerer and Democrat Party Chairman who lost to Arnold Schwarzengger last year in the general election.
    • Gavin Newsom – current Mayor of San Francisco who admits to sleeping with his campaign manager’s wife and carrying on a sordid affair.
    • Antonio Villaraigosa – current Mayor of Los Angeles who admits to an affair with Mirthala Salinas, a Telemundo political reporter and who is in the middle of a divorce.
    • John Garramendi – current Lt. Governor of California who many Democrat activists describe as yesterday’s news.

The $992,220 in stock from Hastings would have to be spent independently of any organized campaign to elect O’Connell governor. O’Connell presently has a little less than $1 million of cash on hand with no debt in his own campaign account.

Will this be a serious candidacy?

Yes, until Jerry Brown enters the race and dries up ALL of the union money.

    Stay tuned…….

Jerry Brown Watch: California Governor in 2010?

Senator Feinstein meets with Mayor Jerry Brown of Oakland, California and Mayor Gavin Newsom of San Francisco, California.

Philip J. Trounstine, the former communications director for Gov. Gray Davis, hints at THE POSSIBLITY of the idea of a recycled Governor Moonbeam in 2010. Remember that Gray Davis is Brown’s former Gubernatorial Chief of Staff.

Brown, a former Governor in the 1970’s is immune from term limits and could seek two more terms as California’s Governor. If elected, Brown, would be 72 years old when taking office.

Remember that current Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who replaced Governor Gray Davis when he was recalled is termed out and cannot by law run for re-election.

    Let’s look at the race.

Can Attorney General Brown win the Democrat primary?

    Possible

    Who will be his opposition:

Steve Westly – former California Controller who lost to Phil Angelides last year in the Democrat primary for Governor.

Phil Angelides – former California Treasuerer and Democrat Party Chairman who lost to Arnold Schwarzengger last year in the general election.

Gavin Newsom – current Mayor of San Francisco who admits to sleeping with his campaign manager’s wife and carrying on a sordid affair.

Antonio Villaraigosa – current Mayor of Los Angeles who admits to an affair with Mirthala Salinas, a Telemundo political reporter and who is in the middle of a divorce.

John Garramendi – current Lt. Governor of California who many Democrat activists describe as yesterday’s news.

Jack O’Connell – current California Superintendent of Public Instruction who has limited statewide name recognition.

So, does former Governor Moonbeam Moonbat have a shot with the Democrats?

    You bet

In the general election against moderate Republican Steve Poizner who is currently the California Insurance Commissioner, the race would be more difficult. Poizner has youth and the money to pound Brown on Rose Bird, the Death Penalty and other Brown oddities.

On the bright side, Flap would enjoy the race because of:

Yeah, Flap, knows Brown is NOW married. But, I bet Linda comes out and sings a few sets for the AG – and how about the Eagles too?

    Stay tuned……..
