John McCain’s Political Rehabilitation Through Barack Obama?

    Obama and McCain

Senator John McCain and President-elect Barack Obama

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum sounds the warning bells about John “MAVERICK” McCain and what the Senator might WILL do to politically rehabilitate himself before the MSM.

McCain was once the mainstream media darling, back when he joined Democrats on a host of issues. He prized his maverick moniker and used it to propel himself onto the national scene in the 2000 Republican presidential primary. Early in the Bush years, he shored up his status as the media’s favorite Republican by opposing Bush on taxes and the environment.

But this love fest came to a halt when McCain became the front-runner for the GOP nomination. First he began to sound more like a conservative by altering his stands on immigration, the environment and taxes. Then he named Sarah Palin his running mate. It was too much for a media that had fallen head over heels for Obama. The media had a new darling.

In McCain’s mind, however, losing the presidency will not be the final chapter of his life story. He knows the path to “Big Media” redemption. Working with the man who vanquished him in November will show them all the real McCain again.

Remember, it was this onetime prisoner of war who led the charge to open diplomatic relations with Vietnam. If that past is prologue, and McCain’s legislative record is any guide, he will not just join with Obama but lead the charge in Congress on global warming, immigration “reform,” the closing of Guantanamo, federal funding for embryonic-stem-cell research, and importation of prescription drugs.

But McCain won’t stop there in his effort to rehabilitate himself in the media’s – or maybe his own – eyes. He will forge common ground on a long list of initiatives that go far beyond where he has gone before, including the stimulus package.

Alas, the two White House rivals now stand positioned to help secure each other’s place in history. The next mainstream media blockbuster could be Barack Obama and John McCain: The Movie.

John McCain will have to tread very softly since he is OLD and up for re-election in 2010. A health problem or a conservative issue faux paus could lead to a divisive Republican primary challenge in Arizona. A challenge McCain could lose.

Now, will that deter the maverick from making nice with the Democrats and President Obama and capitulating on key policy issues that differentiate the parties?

Perhaps. But, beyond this alarm is an event that occurred yesterday. Senator Lindsey Graham (McCain Maverick Lite) was cozing up to Obama and Joe Biden.

To look at President-elect Barack Obama and Sen. Lindsey Graham sitting side by side Wednesday and to hear them passing out praise, you wouldn’t know that scarcely 10 weeks ago they were at political war.

Graham, a South Carolina Republican, is a close friend of Sen. John McCain and crisscrossed the country with him during his losing presidential bid.

“I think this is a good way to get started,” Graham said as he sat with Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden before a throng of journalists at the Obama transition headquarters in Washington . “The campaign is over. I’m disappointed in the outcome, but like every American I’m excited about what awaits our country in the future.

During a 45-minute private meeting, Biden and Graham briefed Obama on their just-completed five-day trip to Afghanistan , Iraq , Pakistan and Kuwait .

The three men then met reporters against a backdrop of five American flags.

Graham told Obama that the foreign leaders they’d met are extremely enthusiastic about his inauguration on Tuesday.

“There’s a moment in time for this country to re-engage the international community, and to make sure that we have international support to stabilize Afghanistan , Pakistan and Iraq ,” Graham said.

“(Obama’s) popularity and the respect he has earned throughout the world give America a chance to re-engage not only in the region, but in a way that in the long run makes his job easier and takes the pressure off our troops,” he said.

Graham turned to Obama and added:

“That’s a compliment to you and the way you have campaigned, and the goodwill you have generated.”

McCain and Graham will be watched over the next few months. If they surrender the GOP’s ideals, the fur will fly and Flap knows who will be the chief furrier – Sarah Palin.

    Stay tuned……

Why Flap is NOT Missing a John McCain Election

    McCain-and-Blago

Senator John McCain on ABC’s “This Week”, December 14, 2008

    Answer (s):

    • “You know, in all due respect to the Republican National Committee and anybody — right now, I think we should try to be working constructively together…”. Video is here.
    • “The committee’s report details the inexcusable link between abusive interrogation techniques used by our enemies who ignored the Geneva Conventions and interrogation policy for detainees in U.S. custody,” Sen. McCain said in a statement. “These policies are wrong and must never be repeated.”

Flap is not losing ANY sleep either wondering if McCain will EVER support Sarah Palin or any other Republican for President.

Like an old soldier, McCain should just fade away – and quickly.

But, “The Maverick” John McCain, the RIGHT’S (?) Presidential candidate says the GOP should give President-Elect Barack Obama a pass on his association with Hot Rod Blagojevich trying to sell his U.S. Senate seat.

McCain even chastized the Republican National Committee.

Looks like a surrender – nothing personal there.

  • Colin Powell,  John McCain,  Rush Limbaugh,  Sarah Palin

Colin Powell on the GOP, Polarization and Sarah Palin – Plus Rush Limbaugh

Fareed Zakaria asks Colin Powell about the future of the GOP and Sarah Palin

Retired General, former National Security Advisor and Secretary of State Colin Powell has some ideas about the future of the GOP and comments regarding the past Presidential election cycle in the video above.

The Republican party must stop “shouting at the world” and start listening to minority groups if it is to win elections in the 21st century, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said Thursday.

In an interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria for Sunday’s “GPS” program, President Bush’s former secretary of state said his party’s attempt “to use polarization for political advantage” backfired last month.

“I think the party has to take a hard look at itself,” Powell said in the interview, which was taped Wednesday. “There is nothing wrong with being conservative. There is nothing wrong with having socially conservative views — I don’t object to that. But if the party wants to have a future in this country, it has to face some realities. In another 20 years, the majority in this country will be the minority.”

Flap will agree with General Powell about the GOP reaching out to Hispanic, Asian and African American voters. It is a travesty for these voters to vote in large majorities for the Democrat Party candidates on the basis of race and racial politics. But, they do. Powell had nothing to say about this fact.

And, where was Powell over the last thirty years (since Reagan) in attempting to outreach for the GOP in the African-American communities?

    Crickets…..the General was AWOL.

There is no doubt the GOP must be more than the old white man party. But, the party must be based on principles that appeal to all Americans – not entitlement politics which features walking around money distributed by local pols or the churches. Or promises of having wealth spread around to their ethnic group as a result of public policy.

    Now, Sarah Palin.

Governor Palin was not a polarizing figure for John McCain or the GOP. Flap has complained that she was perhaps rushed to the national stage and needed some additional foreign policy experience but she is not the FAR-RIGHT polarizing figure that Powell portrays. Sarah Palin is a conservative and the elected Governor of Alaska. Also, Palin is very popular in the GOP. Powell is not.

Colin Powell is not a conservative and has been said to be a RINO (Republican In Name Only) by many pundits over the years. Why anyone would think Powell wishes to reform a party in which he does not share many tenets of its platform, is anyone’s guess?

Small town values are to America as is Apple Pie. General, the South Bronx, New York City, is not the norm in America and never will be. The Bronx is an urban cesspool. Most of America is NOT.

Flap was raised in a small town in Southern California and the values there are definitely different than New York City. So, please, Colin.

“I think the party has to stop shouting at the world and at the country,”Powell said. “I think that the party has to take a hard look at itself, and I’ve talked to a number of leaders in recent weeks and they understand that.” Powell, who says he still considers himself a Republican, said his party should also stop listening to conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh.

“Can we continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh?” Powell asked. “Is this really the kind of party that we want to be when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather than our better instincts?”

Good grief. Rush Limbaugh is a conservative entertainer who has never been elected to any office. Of course, Colin Powell has never won any elective office either. But, you know what they say about opinions and assholes…….

Secretary Powell was fired by President Bush after his first term of office. The disastrous foreign policy of the early Bush years was a result of Powell’s bungling and ineptitude. Making amends for his missteps is a primary Powell agenda. Or is it retribution to George W. Bush?

Now, after the election of Barack Obama it looks like Powell is trying to ingratiate himself with the media as a great pontificator of all things Republican. Why?

Speaking fees and Washington cocktail parties obviously. Powell had not been involved with Republican campaigns in support of its candidates in recent memory.

Exit question: Does anyone within the Republican Party really care what Colin Powell has to say?

SHOCKER: No Oversight for $700 Billion Financial Bailout Package

    pelosi-and-reid-bailout

Don’t blame Flap who didn’t support the financial bailout.

In the six weeks since lawmakers approved the Treasury’s massive bailout of financial firms, the government has poured money into the country’s largest banks, recruited smaller banks into the program and repeatedly widened its scope to cover yet other types of businesses, from insurers to consumer lenders.

Along the way, the Bush administration has committed $290 billion of the $700 billion rescue package.

Yet for all this activity, no formal action has been taken to fill the independent oversight posts established by Congress when it approved the bailout to prevent corruption and government waste. Nor has the first monitoring report required by lawmakers been completed, though the initial deadline has passed.

“It’s a mess,” said Eric M. Thorson, the Treasury Department’s inspector general, who has been working to oversee the bailout program until the newly created position of special inspector general is filled. “I don’t think anyone understands right now how we’re going to do proper oversight of this thing.”

In approving the rescue package, lawmakers trumpeted provisions in the legislation that established layers of independent scrutiny, including a special inspector general to be nominated by the White House and a congressional oversight panel to be named by lawmakers themselves.

The most MAJOR error in the McCain campaign for President was acquiescing on the Bush, Pelosi, Reid, Paulson bailout plan. Had McCain come out against the bailout he may have had a chance at being elected President.

Now, the American taxpayers will just be screwed over and over again by the big spenders in Congress.

    No oversight indeed.

Frank Luntz to John McCain – GO AWAY OLD MAN

    ramireztoon110608

    Political Cartoon by Michael Ramirez

GOP pollster and pundit Frank Luntz had a few choice observations/comments at today’s Republican Governor confab in Miami.

    • Noting that Obama has an email list of 10 million voters, Luntz said that coalition “makes him and his supporters the most powerful special interest group in all of America.”
    • “He’s got 10 million names and our candidate doesn’t know how to use this,” Luntz continues, holding up his BlackBerry in the air.  “There is a problem there.”
    • “Stevie Wonder reads a teleprompter better than John McCain,” Luntz cracked drawing laughs.

John McCain was too old to be elected President. America had grown tired of Bush and angry old white men.

McLame should never have been the Republican nominee.

Flap said this over and over during the primary season.

McCain admitted did not know how to use e-mail while Barack Obama and the Democrats were raising tens of millions on the internet. He was out of touch and held back Sarah Palin who was more relevant.

John McCain knew little if anything about financial matters and the economy and it showed while America plunged into crisis. McCain has never run anything except his “MAVERICK” mouth in the Senate cloak room.

So, while we laugh at Frank Luntz’s quips – we know he is RIGHT.

Why the RIGHT Calls John McCain – McLAME

Senator John McCain on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno November 12, 2008 – Part 1

The election is not one week over and John McCain, “THE MAVERICK” is already selling out and NOT SUPPORTING his Vice Presidential nominee, Sarah Palin from the vicious rumors from his former campaign aides. Remember the NAKED AIRHEAD SHOPAHOLIC?

    McLame is the name.

Let’s look at the transcript and then some more video of the LAME Senator from Arizona.

Senator John McCain: She understands all the energy issues. There’s a $40 billion pipeline coming to bring natural gas to places like California. And so look, she’s a marvelous person.

Jay Leno: Now, these aides that were criticizing her — and I think everyone agrees there were Republican aides who were criticizing her. I know you wouldn’t go for that. I know you’re an old soul. You don’t let people talk — but why?

Senator John McCain: One — these things happen in campaigns too. I think I have at least a thousand, quote, top advisors. “A top advisor said” — people I’ve never even heard of, much less a, quote, top advisor or a high-ranking Republican official. It’s — these things go on in campaigns, and you 6 just –

Jay Leno: Why don’t we just move on.

Senator John McCain: I’m just very proud to have had Sarah Palin and her family, a wonderful family.

Here is part two of the video of Senator McLame and Jay Leno:

Hell of a job of kissing your own ass, Senator McLame and leaving Sarah Palin to twist in the wind. But, what does the RIGHT expect? McLame have never been supportive of anyone but his own damn ass.

Isn’t it revealing that McCain would not name names in the leaks. Nicolle Wallace and Rick Davis have already been on television attempting to save their own reputations and who has been conspicuous by his absence?

McLame’s good friend advisors Mark Salter and Steve Schmidt.

Now, Sarah Palin will come out fine in this flap and McCain will return to the Senate where Flap will cringe for the next two years every time he opens his fraking mouth – at least until he retires.

A GOP loss is a GOP loss and McLame presided.

Now, you know why Flap endorsed Rudy Giuliani in the GOP primary elections.

McCain Campaign Supporter Ashley Todd Slapped on Wrist for BS Mutilation Story

    McCain supporter Ashley Todd

Ashley Todd was in court today and pled out to essentially a wrist slap for fabricating an attack and mutilation story.

A John McCain campaign volunteer agreed on Thursday to enter a probation program for first-time offenders for falsely reporting that a Barack Obama supporter robbed and assaulted her and scratched a “B” on her cheek.

Ashley Todd, 20, of College Station, Texas, claimed the attack happened when the robber saw her McCain bumper sticker.

Todd appeared before a city judge and waived her right to a hearing and was to be released from jail later Thursday.

Under the agreement, her criminal record will be expunged after if she stays out of trouble and gets mental treatment on probation. Most people spend a year on probation in the program, which is for first-time, nonviolent offenders.

“Our focus was really, ‘This is somebody who appeared to have some mental issues,'” said prosecutor Chris Avetta. “And we wanted to make sure she doesn’t hurt herself or anybody else.”

Obviously, Todd has some mental problems and Flap is glad she will receive the obligatory help. If she fails to abide by her plea deal today she can be sentenced to up to two years in jail – OUCH!
