    GOVERNOR ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER ENDORSES

    TONY STRICKLAND FOR STATE SENATE

    California’s Greenest Governor Picks Strickland,

says, “We need independent thinkers in Sacramento.”

(Simi Valley)  Today, as Tony Strickland joins Vons officials for the launch of the first solar powered grocery store in Southern California, the Strickland for Senate Campaign announces the official endorsement of California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in the bid for the 19th District State Senate seat.  Strickland’s emphasis on jumpstarting our economy with renewable energy fits with the Governor’s philosophy that it is possible to be both a good steward of the environment while also supporting California businesses.

“Tony’s strength as a leader is admirable,” said Schwarzenegger.  “His fight for renewable energy is the foundation of his economic plan and I need him standing with me as we transition California into a renewable, energy efficient economy.  We need independent thinkers like Tony Strickland in Sacramento.”

With environmental and business interests often viewed as conflicting, both Strickland and Schwarzenegger believe that the two are not mutually exclusive.  Allowing California businesses to lead the way on renewable energy will strengthen our economy, help end our dependence on foreign oil and create high-paying green jobs in the state.

“Arnold Schwarzenegger is the greenest Governor California has ever had,” said Strickland.  “I’m honored to share in his vision of transforming California into a renewable, energy-efficient economy.  I am extremely grateful to have his support.”

Flap doesn’t know if this OBLIGATORY endorsement will help Strickland much with California conservatives but the Governor’s inaction might have cost him some votes and provided campaign fodder for Hannah-Beth Jackson and the Democrats.

California’s 19th State Senate District has a GOP edge in registration (albiet, slight as it is) and in order to win Strickland needs to turn out his GOP base, plus a few independent voters. Arnold will help with this.

Where is California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in California Proposition 8 – Gay Marriage Fight?

In an appearance at the 2008 Log Cabin Republicans National Convention in San Diego, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) pledges to fight a proposed anti-gay marriage amendment.

Andrew Sullivan is bitchin’ and moanin’ that Arnold is NOT doing enough to defeat California’s Proposition 8 Protect Traditional Marriage Consitutional amendment.

He opposes it but hasn’t gone beyond his statement to Patrick Sammon: ….But he isn’t fighting against it. And he needs to.

Actually, Arnold is UNPOPULAR in California because of his failure to control the Democrat Legislature in spending California blind and California Republicans have no use for his post-partisan BS leadership style.

Schwarznenegger has spent $ millions in supporting Proposition 11, the Voters FIRST Act, a California redistricting initiative. The Governor needs GOP votes to pass this measure and doing anything for gay marriage will ABSOLUTELY sink Proposition 11.

Arnold may still cut some ads for Proposition 8, the Protect Traditional Marriage Consitutional Amendment but don’t count on alot. And, with Proposition 8 up in the polls who knows if Schwarzenegger will even do that?

Schwarzenegger Asks Feds for $7-billion Emergency Loan

    Schwarzenegger-California-e

In a letter obtained by The Los Angeles Times, the governor warns that tight credit has dried up funds California routinely relies on and it may have to seek emergency aid within weeks.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and the Democrat controlled legislature have badly mis-managed the California budget for years. The chickens have come home to roost.

Arnold Schwarzenegger was first elected in a recall election to replace Democrat Gray Davis to clean up a budgetary mess. Arnold has done nothing but borrow and spend his entire tenure as California Governor. The Democrat Legislature has done nothing but accomodate an increase in government spending.

A pox on all of them.

But, Arnold, the worst mistake the California GOP has made in decades still has time to be the celebrity as he is:

    Arnold Schwarzenegger oct 1 2008

California First Lady Maria Shriver, right, speaks to the crowd as Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger looks on after they received the ‘Family Visionary Award’ at the Habitat for Humanity ‘Building a Better Los Angeles’ gala in Beverly Hills, Calif., Wednesday, Oct. 1, 2008

It is a shame Arnold cannot be a full time Governor for the people of California as he promised.

President Bush has now signed the $700 billion bailout bill and undoubtedly there will be more liquidity in the financial markets, California will obtain its revenue anticipation loans and will be able to meet its financial obligations. However, this does not excuse the fiscal mismanagement perpetuated by Arnold and the California Legislature.

If the legislative and Congressional districts were not so partisanly gerrymanderd, heads would roll at the November elections.

The verdict is out whether Arnold will be recalled himself this next year.

Flap bets no for now. However, Arnold is finished for any future elected political office though – another Jesse Ventura.

Text on a California Car Cell Phone – Get a Fine in January

    textmessaging

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed the bill into law yesterday.

Let the bill-signing season begin. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger today signed SB 28 by Sen. Joe Simitian to ban text messaging while driving.

The bill starts off with a $20 fine for offenders, with the fine escalating to $50 after the first offense. The law takes effect Jan. 1.

Two years ago, Schwarzenegger signed Simitian legislation to require drivers to use hands-free devices while talking on cell phones.

Flap sees very little effect of the current cell phone law since everyone continues to use their cell phones while driving. The fines are low – $20. Why buy a $60.00 hands free device when the chances the cops will see pull you over are nil?

This is a “feel good” law and won’t eliminate accidents from inattentive driving which is the stated purpose.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Watch: No Republican National Convention for Arnold

    McCain Event June 24 2008 069

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will not be attending the Republican National Convention this week.

    The Press Release:

Sacramento, CA – Governor Schwarzenegger today made the following statement regarding his attendance at the Republican National Convention:

“I am honored that Senator McCain invited me to speak at the Republican National Convention. He is an American hero, a great leader, and the right candidate to be our next president.

“However, California is always my number one priority, and there is no greater priority for our state right now than putting a responsible budget in place that fixes our broken system. Therefore — as I have said — I will not be attending the National Convention in order to focus on working toward a state budget agreement. It is totally unacceptable that 62 days past its deadline, the Legislature has not sent me a budget that I can sign. Just as they must do in our nation’s capital, Republicans and Democrats must compromise and do the work of the people.”

Arnold could fly in and out of Minneapolis quickly without a problem in his private jet but the REAL REASON Arnold is not attending is that because of Hurricane Gustav he won’t be delivering a prime time speech anyway.

    So, why bother?

Arnold is such a good Republican.

Just Say No To Arnold’s Tax Increases

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger buttons his jacket as he walks to a news conference to unveil his new compromise state budget at a Capitol news conference in Sacramento, Calif., Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008. Schwarzenegger’s plan calls for a temporary 1 percent sales tax increase and additional spending cuts to close the $15.2 billion deficit.

California Republican Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger unveiled a second compromise state budget today (remember his first last January?) featuring tax increases that he previously rejected.

Arnold was elected after the previous Democrat Governor Gray Davis with the direction of California public employee unions ran up massive deficits which required bonds and temporary taxes to retire the debt. Davis was recalled and Schwarzenegger was elected to replace him.

California Republicans in the legislature must insist that the Governor make the cuts to balance the budget without raising taxes. Arnold has had five years in office and the California budget has continued to balloon out of control.

Assembly Republican Leader Mike Villines of Fresno this afternoon issued the following:

“The proposal put forward today looks remarkably similar to the plan the governor’s office has been negotiating with the Democrats for weeks. Substituting one tax increase for another is not a bipartisan compromise, nor will it solve our long-term budget problems. This budget proposal will still leave a $7 billion hole next year despite nearly $10 billion in higher taxes and new revenue.

“Increasing taxes on hard working Californians, whether temporary or permanent is not only unnecessary, it is irresponsible. Assembly Republicans continue to oppose tax increases because they will hurt families, kill jobs, hinder our economic growth and feed the Democrats’ addiction to higher spending.

“Assembly Republicans understand the importance of passing a responsible budget in a timely manner and will continue to work toward an honest budget that reforms our budget system, encourages economic growth, creates jobs and rejects tax increases.”

Now is the time to JUST SAY NO and make a “STAND” against big government and more taxes.

And, Arnold, California Republicans really don’t care if you speak at the National Republican Convention or not.

Do your job for which you were elected – FIRST.

    Arnold Schwarzenegger

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, left, shows the interior of a hybrid Hummer to Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano at a Green Tech Expo during the annual Border Governors Conference Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008, in Los Angeles

Arnold called into KFI Radio’s John and Ken Show on Monday. It wasn’t pretty.

The biggest mistake the California GOP has made in recent history was recalling Democrat Governor Gray Davis and recruiting Arnold as his GOP replacement. Undoubtedly, Schwarzenegger is the worst Governor since his movie pal Jesse Ventura’s debacle in Minnesota.

Arnold Schwarzenegger to California State Workers – Screw You

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, right, shakes hands with Orange Cove Mayor Victor Lopez, during a water rally held at the Capitol in Sacramento, Calif., Wednesday, July 23, 2008. More than 500 farm workers and their families rallied to call for the Legislature to approve a measure to place of a $9.3 billion water bond measure on the November ballot to build reservoirs, encourage conservation and restore the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger intends to slash the salaries of California State employees – all 200,000 of them – to the federal minimum wage while the California budget negotiations in the legislature drag on.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger plans to sign an executive order next week that will temporarily reduce pay for more than 200,000 state workers to the federal minimum wage of $6.55 per hour to preserve cash in the midst of a month-long budget standoff, according to a draft copy of the order obtained by The Bee.

But a spokeswoman for Democratic state Controller John Chiang, who pays the state’s bills, said he would ignore the governor’s order, likely forcing a court battle.

“He will pay state workers the salaries that they have earned, and that’s full salary,” said Deputy Controller Hallye Jordan.

Administration officials said the governor expects to take the action Monday.

“The administration is looking into many different options to preserve cash to ensure we have enough to cover our costs,” Schwarzenegger communications director Matt David said.

The Republican governor, in the executive order, argues that the late state budget means there is “a real and substantial risk” that the state will not have enough cash to pay its bills.

He says that his action complies with a 2003 ruling by the California Supreme Court that made clear that without a state budget in place, federal labor laws require the state to pay most workers “either federal minimum wage or, for those employees that work overtime, their full salaries.” The order would require state agencies to stop authorizing overtime for most employees.

In what is probably the most ludicrous action, Flap can remember of any California governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger decides he will punish California State employees because of his failure of leadership. And, as a result, the Republican Governor further DAMAGES the already moribund California GOP.

    Nice job, Arnold.

A tax, spend, borrow, pandering post-partisan RINO POL who does not wish to alienate anyone, Arnold will go down in history as a governor like his movie compadre, Jesse Ventura.

Why did the California GOP EVER recall Democrat Governor Gray Davis?

john McCain Watch: The Santa Barbara Energy Efficiency and Conservation Discussion Part 3

    McCain June 24 2008_0003

Earlier today (9 AM PDT) Senator and presumptive GOP nominee for President John McCain was joined by California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger for a discussion of energy efficiency and conservation at the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.

John McCain read from a prepared text to lead off the discussion with the other panelists. Team McCain had issued an earlier press release on his remarks.

John McCain Believes That Conservation And Clean Energy Will Result In A Cleaner Environment And A Secure Energy Future. John McCain believes in common-sense conservation which means that it is not always a matter of making due with less energy but using energy in smarter ways. Business owners who invest in green buildings can substantially cut their energy costs and homeowners can save hundreds or even thousands of dollars a year through conservation. Clean energy in the form of nuclear, clean coal, wind, solar and hydro-electric will provide us green and renewable energy.

The Evidence Of Climate Change Is Compelling And Demands Our Urgent Attention:

Scientific Data Indicates That Climate Change Is Real. Fossil fuel emissions retain heat within our atmosphere, resulting in disastrous changes in our climate. The effects of climate change include: the shrinking of glaciers, Antarctic ice shelves and polar ice sheets; reduced snowpack, with earlier runoffs in the Pacific Northwest and elsewhere; and in the frozen wilds of Alaska, the Arctic, Antarctic, and elsewhere, wildlife biologists have noted sudden changes in animal migration patterns, a loss of their habitat, and a rise in sea levels. Carbon emissions contribute to climate change and their reduction is essential.

John McCain Proposes A Cap-And-Trade System That Would Set Limits On Greenhouse Gas Emissions While Encouraging The Development Of Low-Cost Compliance Options. A climate cap-and-trade mechanism would set a limit on greenhouse gas emissions and allow entities to buy and sell rights to emit, similar to the successful acid rain trading program of the early 1990s. The key feature of this mechanism is that it allows the market to decide and encourage the lowest-cost compliance options.

How Does A Cap-And-Trade System Work? A cap-and-trade system harnesses human ingenuity in the pursuit of alternatives to carbon-based fuels. Market participants are allotted total permits equal to the cap on greenhouse gas emissions. If they can invent, improve, or acquire a way to reduce their emissions, they can sell their extra permits for cash. The profit motive will coordinate the efforts of venture capitalists, corporate planners, entrepreneurs, and environmentalists on the common motive of reducing emissions.

Greenhouse Gas Emission Targets And Timetables:

    · 2012: Return Emissions To 2005 Levels (18 Percent Above 1990 Levels)

    · 2020: Return Emissions To 1990 Levels (15 Percent Below 2005 Levels)

    · 2030: 22 Percent Below 1990 Levels (34 Percent Below 2005 Levels)

    · 2050: 60 Percent Below 1990 Levels (66 Percent Below 2005 Levels)

The Cap-And-Trade System Would Allow For The Gradual Reduction Of Emissions. The cap-and-trade system would encompass electric power, transportation fuels, commercial business, and industrial business — sectors responsible for just under 90 percent of all emissions. Small businesses would be exempt. Initially, participants would be allowed to either make their own GHG reductions or purchase “offsets” — financial instruments representing a reduction, avoidance, or sequestration of greenhouse gas emissions practiced by other activities, such as agriculture — to cover 100 percent of their required reductions. Offsets would only be available through a program dedicated to ensure that all offset GHG emission reductions are real, measured and verifiable. The fraction of GHG emission reductions permitted via offsets would decline over time.

    · Barack Obama’s Cap-And-Trade Plan Lacks The Balance To Be Successful. His first year in Congress, Barack Obama supported John McCain’s 2005 cap-and-trade proposal. However, as a presidential candidate, Barack Obama has outlined his own cap-and-trade proposal that requires a drastic reduction in emissions without any mechanisms for an easy economic transition. This could result in a shock to the economy with potentially higher energy prices or the need to shutter existing coal electricity facilities.

In Becoming Energy Independent, The Government Must Lead By Setting The Right Example In Its Own Use Of Fossil Fuels:

John McCain Will Make Greening The Federal Government A Priority Of His Administration. The federal government is the largest electricity consumer on earth and occupies 3.3 billion square feet of space worldwide. It provides an enormous opportunity to lead by example. By applying a higher efficiency standard to new buildings leased or purchased or retrofitting existing buildings, we can save taxpayers money in energy costs, and move the construction market in the direction of green technology.

John McCain Will Reduce Emissions From Transportation And Electricity Production:

John McCain’s Clean Car Challenge. John McCain will issue a Clean Car Challenge to the automakers of America, in the form of a single and substantial tax credit for the consumer based on the reduction of carbon emissions. John McCain will commit up to a $5,000 tax credit for each and every customer who buys that car, encouraging automakers to be first on the market with these cars in order to capitalize on the consumer incentives. For other vehicles, whatever type they may be, the credit is determined on a sliding scale — the lower the carbon emissions, the higher the tax credit.

John McCain Will Propose A $300 Million Prize To Improve Battery Technology For Full Commercial Development Of Plug-In Hybrid And Fully Electric Automobiles. A $300 million prize should be awarded for the development of a battery package that has the size, capacity, cost and power to leapfrog the commercially available plug-in hybrids or electric cars. That battery should deliver a power source at 30 percent of the current costs. At $300 million, the prize is one dollar for every man, woman and child in this country — and a small price to pay for breaking our dependence on oil.

John McCain Will Commit $2 Billion Annually For 15 Years To Advance Our Clean Coal Technologies. Some believe that market viable clean coal technologies could be over 15 years away. John McCain believes that this is too long to wait and we need to commit significant federal resources to the science, research, development, and deployment of this critical technology. Once commercialized, the U.S. can then export these technologies to countries like China that are committed to using their own vast resources of coal.

Nuclear Power Is A Proven, Safe, Zero-Emission Source Of Energy And It Is Time For The U.S. To Recommit To Advancing Our Use Of Nuclear Power. The U.S. has not started construction on a new nuclear power plant in over 30 years. Currently, nuclear power provides 20 percent of our overall energy portfolio. It is also important to be able to build the components for these plants and reactors within the United States so that we are not dependent on foreign suppliers with long wait times to move forward with our nuclear plans.

John McCain Will Encourage The Market For Alternative, Low Carbon Fuels Such As Wind, Hydro And Solar Power. According to the Department of Energy, wind could provide as much as one-fifth of electricity by 2030. The U.S. solar energy industry continued its double-digit annual growth rate in 2006. To develop these and other sources of renewable energy will require that we rationalize the current patchwork of temporary tax credits that provide commercial feasibility. John McCain believes in an even-handed system of tax credits that will remain in place until the market transforms sufficiently to the point where renewable energy no longer merits the taxpayers’ dollars.

John McCain Will Move The United States Toward Electricity Grid And Metering Improvements To Save Energy. John McCain will work to reduce red tape to allow a serious investment to upgrade our national grid to meet the demands of the 21st century — which will include a capacity to charge the electric cars that will one day fill the roads and highways of America. And to save both money and electrical power for our people and businesses, we will also need to deploy SmartMeter technologies. These new meters give customers a more precise picture of their overall energy consumption, and over time will encourage a more cost-efficient use of power.

After the statements were read a round-table discussion between the participants followed.

Inside, during a round-table discussion, McCain heard complaints from a panelist, Michael Feeney, executive director of the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County. Feeney did not specifically mention McCain, who will face Democrat Barack Obama in the November presidential election.

Santa Barbara was the site of a major oil spill in 1969.

“It makes me nervous to think about those who are proposing to drain America’s offshore oil and gas reserves as quickly as possible in hopes of driving down the price of gasoline,” Feeney said.

Feeney also said he opposed McCain’s plan to jump-start the building of new nuclear reactor plants for meeting America’s rising energy demands.

Obama, too, criticized McCain’s proposal to encourage the building of 45 new nuclear reactors by 2030. He said it lacked a plan for waste storage and was among several energy-strategy ideas that Obama said were “not serious energy policies.”

Obama spoke in Nevada, a state where proposals to build a nuclear waste disposal site at Yucca Mountain have generated strong opposition. He also took aim at McCain’s plan to allow more offshore U.S. oil drilling.

“It doesn’t make sense for America,” the Illinois senator said. “In fact, it makes about as much sense as his proposal to build 45 new nuclear reactors without a plan to store the waste some place other than right here at Yucca Mountain.”

    “EUROPEANS ARE DOING IT”

McCain contested Feeney’s remarks on nuclear plants.

“The technology is there. The Europeans are doing it. It’s safe,” McCain said.

In his prepared speech opening the discussion, McCain did not list offshore drilling but did cite the need for more domestic energy production.

“When people are hurting, and struggling to afford gasoline, food, and other necessities, common sense requires that we draw upon America’s own vast reserves of oil and natural gas,” he said.

California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who has made it quite clear that he does NOT favor off-shore oil exploration and development sat silently as McCain answered Feeney.

Dean Matt Tirrell from the University of California at Santa Barbara College of Engineering and Founder of the Insitute of Energy Efficiency proceeded on a more optimistic course supporting the improvement of technology.

Former CIA Director James Woolsey discussed the impact of new energy producing technology using solar, wind, geothermal and ocean waves.

The round-table ended promptly after an hour and no questions were entertained from the audience. This actually surprised me since microphones were placed at the begiining of the seesion but were quietly removed during the opening statements. No explanations were given.

After a brief circulation through the crowd the Senator left along with Governor Schwarzenegger.
