Newt Gingrich Watch: Limit Free Speech = Early EXIT from Presidential Race
Former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich chats with members of the Loeb family during dinner before speaking at the 4th Annual First Amendment Awards Honors event hosted by the Nackey S. Loeb School of Communications Monday, Nov. 27, 2006, in Manchester, N.H.
NY Sun: Gingrich: Free Speech Should Be Curtailed To Fight Terrorism
A former House speaker, Newt Gingrich, is causing a stir by proposing that free speech may have to be curtailed in order to fight terrorism.
“We need to get ahead of the curve rather than wait until we actually literally lose a city, which I think could literally happen in the next decade if we’re unfortunate,” Mr. Gingrich said Monday night during a speech in New Hampshire. “We now should be impaneling people to look seriously at a level of supervision that we would never dream of if it weren’t for the scale of the threat.”
Speaking at an award dinner billed as a tribute to crusaders for the First Amendment, Mr. Gingrich, who is considering a run for the White House in 2008, painted an ominous picture of the dangers facing America.
“This is a serious, long-term war,” the former speaker said, according an audio excerpt of his remarks made available yesterday by his office. “Either before we lose a city or, if we are truly stupid, after we lose a city, we will adopt rules of engagement that use every technology we can find to break up their capacity to use the Internet, to break up their capacity to use free speech, and to go after people who want to kill us to stop them from recruiting people.”
Right.
Just as people are understanding the Islamofascist threat, tell them that their precious Bill of Rights will be changed/eliminated to fight Muslims.
Are you kidding Flap.
It is within the framework of “FREE SPEECH” that the fight against terrorism is waged.
Captain Ed has his analysis here.
The remedy for bad speech is more speech. The solution to radical mosques is to enforce immigration laws and to tighten visa requirements to keep radicals from entering the US. If people want to advocate for terrorist attacks and the violent overthrow of our elected government, then they have already broken the law, and it requires no sacrifice from Americans to prosecute such people. Free speech and religious freedom did not cause terrorism; in fact, the lack of both causes it. If Gingrich wants to offer the hair of the dog as a solution, then he will find himself very lonely on the campaign trail for the next two years.
Put a FORK in Newt’s Presidential ambitions – Gingrich is DONE.

Michael Ramirez on John McCain and Presidential Election 2008
Arrgh……………Flap is NOT with McCain……………..Guess who?Giuliani takes step toward White House bid
Giuliani moves nearer to White House run
In a nationwide Rasmussen Reports survey of 1,050 Republicans and 203 GOP-leaning independents, 24 percent backed Giuliani while 18 percent chose Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. McCain, at 17 percent, lags behind Rice, a declared non-candidate.
“If we assume Rice is not running and allocate her votes,” says pollster Scott Rasmussen, “Giuliani would top McCain 32 percent to 22 percent in the Nov. 4-7 study.”Among likely Republican voters polled in Michigan, McCain beat Giuliani 33 percent to 25. Rudy romped elsewhere in Strategic Vision’s Nov. 6 survey. Giuliani outran McCain by nine points in Georgia (33 percent to 24); 19 in Florida (46 percent to 27) and Washington state (42 percent to 23); 22 in New Jersey (47 percent to 25); and 23 points in Pennsylvania (47 percent to 24). Gov. Mitt Romney, R-Mass., scored, at best, a distant third in these states.
A Clemson University poll of South Carolina Republicans and GOP-leaners revealed Giuliani’s enormous 68 percent net-favorable rating (78 percent favorable minus 10 percent unfavorable). McCain’s equivalent figure was 42 percent (65 favorable, less 23 percent unfavorable). These figures don’t surprise Rasmussen.
“Giuliani has the highest net-favorable ratings of any candidate on whom we’ve been polling,” he says. “Giuliani’s higher than McCain and higher than Hillary Clinton. He’s even higher than Bill Clinton.”

President 2008 Watch: Hillary – McCain Was Doing the Bidding of the White House – The Apology
New York Post: HILL’S SO SORRY OVER ‘VIET’ SLAP
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton called John McCain yesterday to personally apologize and denounce comments an adviser of hers reportedly made slamming the GOP senator over his time in captivity in Vietnam.
The move from one potential 2008 presidential candidate to another was sparked by a column in The New York Times, in which Maureen Dowd quoted an anonymous adviser talking about McCain’s criticism of the Clintons over their North Korea position.
The adviser said Team Clinton thought McCain was doing the White House’s dirty work by criticizing the Clintons and ended up “looking similar to the way he did on those captive tapes from Hanoi, where he recited the names of his crewmates.”
That was a reference to an unsubstantiated rumor used to tar McCain, a Vietnam war hero, as off-kilter during the 2000 GOP presidential primary.
Right……..
The Clinton brand of politics.
Pathetic
But, get used to it. The November 2008 presidential campaign will be painfully LONG.

President 2008 Watch: Hillary – McCain Was Doing the Bidding of the White House
Hillary’s brand of the POLITICS OF PERSONAL DESTRUCTION has already started.
Privately, Hillary’s camp was not overly upset by the McCain swipe because it suspected he was doing the bidding of the White House and that he ended up, as one adviser put it, “looking similar to the way he did on those captive tapes from Hanoi, where he recited the names of his crew mates.â€

Senator George Allen Watch: Allen Apologizes for Offensive Remarks – FLAP Part II
AP: Sen. Allen apologizes for ‘macaca’ jibe
Sen. George Allen (news, bio, voting record) personally called an opponent’s aide and apologized for singling the man out almost two weeks ago with an obscure comment that has cast a shadow over the senator’s White House ambitions, his campaign said.
S.R. Sidarth, a Democratic volunteer of Indian descent, was videotaping an Allen campaign event when the senator pointed to him and twice called him “Macaca.” Macaca is a genus of monkeys that includes macaques, and is also considered a racial slur in some parts of the world.
“This fellow over here with the yellow shirt — Macaca or whatever his name is — he’s with my opponent,” Allen said.
He noted that his opponent, Democrat Jim Webb, was raising money in California, then told the crowd of about 100 supporters: “Let’s give a welcome to Macaca here. Welcome to America and the real world of Virginia.”
Sidarth, who was born just outside Washington in Fairfax County, Va., said he felt Allen was singling him out by race.
Earth to George Allen: You already apologized – let it go.
Now, you are going to stock the kid?
Allen on Wednesday tracked down a phone number for Sidarth at the University of Virginia, where the 20-year-old had returned for his senior year, and apologized to him, said campaign manager Dick Wadhams.
“Senator Allen made a heartfelt apology,” Wadhams said. “He told Sidarth he thought he would see him on the campaign trail, but Sidarth had headed back to U.Va., so we Googled his name, found his number and the senator called him this morning.”
Will Senator George Allen recover from this FLAP?
For the Senate: Maybe
For the Presidency: Forget about it.
Allah has more on “Macccagate.”
XRLQ says Allen should hire him to nuclear fisk James Webb and other Allen opponents.
Flap agrees…..

Des Moines Register: Giuliani leads GOP pack in Iowa, survey finds
Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani leads the field of prospective Republican presidential candidates in Iowa, according to a poll of likely GOP caucus-goers published Tuesday.
Giuliani received support from 30 percent of Republicans expecting to attend the 2008 caucuses, the survey by Victory Enterprises shows.
Roughly 29 percent of the 400 likely caucus-goers surveyed by the Davenport-based company said they were undecided about whom they would support, followed by Sen. John McCain of Arizona with 17.3 percent.
Rudy is on a roll and the campaign is a foot…….
And do you think Giuliani wants to run against Hillary?
AFP: Republicans can’t wait to vote against Hillary: Giuliani
Republicans relish the prospect of Hillary Clinton running for president in 2008, just so they can vote against her, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani was quoted as saying.
“Democrats seem to support her as their main candidate for president — she’s way ahead of anybody else — and it seems like Republicans are just waiting for her to be the candidate so they can vote against her,” he said.
“She definitely creates passions on both sides,” he added.
“Hillary probably has the distinction of being the best fundraiser for the Democratic Party — and the best fundraiser for the Republican Party,” he said.
Stay tuned…….

Byron York in NRO: Can Giuliani Win the Southern GOP?
The better question is:
Can John McCain beat Rudy Giuliani in the South?
No other candidates will have stature in this presidential race, if they both run – which they will.
Flap sees a split in the South and McCain needs early southern wins to build credibility.California with its winner take all primary and massive number of GOP delegates will be in play with an edge to Rudy. New York and Pennsylvania will go to Rudy.
Flap sees Rudy the eventual winner with California deciding the race. But, who will be the Vice President candidate?
For a unity ticket, the loser?
Well, it won’t be Senator George Allen……
