CA-Sen: Carly Fiorina “On Air” With Her First Television Ad

Carly Fiorina on getting something done in The U.S. Senate for California.

Looks like former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina has either raised a boatload of cash or has written some checks to begin television ads so early.

Likely, it is both and although the ads will not be as numerous as Meg Whitman’s, they will certainly be more than Tom Campbell’s meager ad buys or Chuck DeVore’s radio only (cheaper) approach.

CA-Sen: Carly Fiorina Gains in Latest PPIC Poll

California U.S. Senate candidates Tom Campbell, Carly Fiorina and Chuck DeVore

    Graphic courtesy of Calbuzz

The latest PPIC (Public Policy Institute of California) poll has been released. And, it is all good news for Carly Fiorina.

The Republican primary race for U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer’s seat has tightened since January, when Tom Campbell led both Carly Fiorina and Chuck DeVore among Republican likely voters (27% Campbell, 16% Fiorina, 8% DeVore). Today, Campbell and Fiorina are in a close race (24% Fiorina, 23% Campbell), and DeVore’s level of support is unchanged (8%). In this campaign—which has seen little advertising—the largest percentage of likely voters (44%) is undecided, similar to January (48%).

In hypothetical November matchups, incumbent Boxer is deadlocked with Campbell (43% to 44%), with 13 percent undecided. A plurality of independents support Campbell (48% Campbell, 32% Boxer, 20% undecided). Since January, support for Boxer has dropped 10 points among independents, and Campbell’s support has increased 11 points. Half of women support Boxer (50% vs. 38% Campbell) and half of men favor Campbell (51% vs. 36% Boxer).

Boxer is in a similarly tight race with Fiorina (44% to 43%), with 13 percent undecided. Among independents, Fiorina leads Boxer (41% Fiorina, 35% Boxer, 24% undecided). Women favor Boxer by 14 points (51% Boxer, 37% Fiorina) and men favor Fiorina by 13 points (49% Fiorina, 36% Boxer).

In a potential race with DeVore, Boxer has a slight lead (46% Boxer, 40% DeVore, 14% undecided). Boxer holds a sizable lead over DeVore among women (53% to 34%) and younger voters (52% to 30%), while DeVore leads among men (47% to 39%).

I will have more comments either later today or tomorrow when I can see more of the cross tabs of the poll. But, the short summary is that Carly Fiorina is pulling up, Tom Campbell is starting to fade and the question is why Chuck DeVore continues in this race with so little support.

And…..Democrat Senator Barabara Boxer is extremely vulnerable.

CA-Sen Field Poll: Senator Barbara Boxer Fades as Tom Campbell and Carly Fiorina Surge

Poll Graphic Courtesy of the Sacramento Bee

California U.S. Senator Democrat Barbara Boxer is in deep trouble for her re-election bid. The latest poll results are in the graphic above but in summary:

    GOP Primary

    • Campbell 28
    • Fiorina 22
    • DeVore 9
    • Und 40

    General Election

    • Campbell 44 – Boxer 43 – Und 13
    • Boxer 45 – Fiorina 44 – Und 11
    • Boxer 45 – DeVore 41 – Und 14

The March 9-15 survey was conducted of 748 LV with a MoE of +/- 3.7%. For the primary, 353 GOP LV were surveyed with a MoE of +/- 5.5%.

A very good poll for former Hewlett-Packard CEO Carly Fiorina as she emerges as the conservative favorite in the race. In fact, supposed Tea Party favorite Chuck DeVore is not doing so well with that group of voters as Fiorina beats DeVore.

The results of this poll are pretty much what I have expected. Carly Fiorina is starting to surge, Tom Campbell is holding on to a small lead based on his name identification and Chuck Devore trails badly. I expect to see in the next month conservative voters peeling off DeVore to support Fiorina as it becomes perfectly clear that DeVore will not win. Conservatives will flock to Fiorina over the left-leaning libertarian Tom Campbell.

The biggest shock in the poll, however, is how poorly Barbara Boxer is doing. This race has to be viewed as a toss-up now and the national Republican Party has to be lickng its chops.  Look for more money to surge into Carly Fiorina’s campaign coffers.

CA-Sen Poll Watch: Senator Barbara Boxer Threatened By All GOP Candidates

Rasmussen Poll of March 11, 2010

The poll results released above are fairly straight forward. Senator Barbara Boxer is vulnerable at this point in the election cycle no matter who her Republican challenger will be.

Advertising has just begun in the race with an independent expenditure group attacking Tom Campbell as too liberal. But, it is early and whoever can put together the best advertising campaign will likely win the GOP June primary election.

CA-Sen: Chuck DeVore Communications Director a NO SHOW at California GOP Convention?

Joshua Trevino (L), Communications Director for U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore

I remember last Fall, when Joshua Trevino, Chuck DeVore’s spokeshole ravaged Carly Fiorina for not attending the California Republican Convention because she was finishing up her treatment for breast cancer.

    Remember?

I saw this today on Twitter and really could not believe it. A spokesman and a paid one at that for California Republican Assemblyman and U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore, Joshua Trevino,  mocking fellow Republican Carly Fiorina for not attending this past weekend’s California GOP Convention in Indian Wells.

    James Richardson has the FLAP.

And, today is the start of the Spring California Republican Party convention in Santa Clara, California. Carly Fiorina will address a Saturday luncheon.

    But, where is spokeshole Trevino?

Apparently, Trevino is not even in California but in Texas.

I guess with his candidate Chuck DeVore’s poor showing in the polls (7 per cent in the last one), there is no need for DeVore have a campaign team in place at the GOP convention.

So, has Trevino already given up on Chuck and trolling for a new gig at SWSX?

    Looks like it……

Josh why aren’t you in Santa Clara with your candidate?

CA-Sen: Tom Campbell Leads Carly Fiorina 33% to 24% While Chuck DeVore Trails at 7%

2010 California Senate Election: Republican Primary

The latest poll (DailyKos.com/Research 2000) for the June California GOP primary election for United States Senate is out.

    Tom Campbell (R)  33
    Carly Fiorina (R) 24
    Chuck DeVore (R)   7

    General election

    Barbara Boxer (D)  47
    Tom Campbell (R)   43

    Barbara Boxer (D)  49 (52)
    Carly Fiorina (R)  40 (31)

    Barbara Boxer (D)  49 (53)
    Chuck DeVore (R)   39 (29)

    Favorable/Unfavorable

    Boxer (D)    50/45 (49/43)
    Campbell (R) 46/37 (38/29)
    Fiorina (R)  35/43 (22/29)
    DeVore (R)   34/42 (21/27)

This is, after all, a Democrat and LEFT leaning poll but there are some obvious points:

    1. Barbara Boxer remains vulnerable with less than 50 per cent against all Republican challengers

    2. The Republican Primary election is really between Carly Fiorina and Tom Campbell. Chuck DeVore trails badly as his campaign has not gained any traction in over a year of campaigning and has to be considered out fof the race even with a large undecided (36 per cent) undecided vote.

CA-Sen: Chuck DeVore Takes Heat for Ignoring California Constituents

California Assemblyman and U.S. Senate candidate Chuck DeVore at CPAC

Well, Chuck DeVore is “termed out” after all, so who cares about his Orange County constituents and California state issues, right?

Last week, I wrote about teachers wearing blue, passing out flyers and protesting because the state budget crisis has resulted in dozens of teachers in Newport Mesa losing their jobs.

I sent this message (via Facebook) to Assemblyman Chuck DeVore, R-Irvine, who represents Corona del Mar:

    “Chuck,

Newport Mesa teachers are passing out flyers today to protest state cuts in education. The flyers allege that legislators negotiated in secret with lobbyists for $2 billion in tax breaks.

Comment? Are you attending any protests?”

Here is his reply, which came two days later:

“No protests — too busy campaigning across the state.”

He ignored a follow-up message, asking if he had any response or comment.

Now, I do not single out DeVore for blame on the budget mess, or the fact that my daughter’s class size is going to increase next year. And I do like the fact that he’s available on Facebook, that I can send him notes and get an answer. He’s often very accessible and will answer questions and concerns.

But I do wonder why he has the luxury of blowing off his current job (representing us) to pursue his next job (he’s hoping to become a U.S. senator.)

Can you imagine telling your boss, “Sorry — I’m too busy interviewing for a cool new gig to get that report to you this week…”? You would be so fired, so fast.

But, Assemblyman DeVore did have the time to write a comment to this California voter’s concern that he is not doing the job he was elected to do.

So I communicate with you and you hit me for it. Nice. I receive far more invites on a daily basis than I can possibly attend. I am in Sacramento today and will be meeting with people in my office, then driving myself to Placerville tonight for a speech on behalf of my U.S. Senate campaign. We are in session Monday through Thursday, so attending a protest would require a special flight.

    All the best,

    Chuck DeVore
    California State Assemblyman
Candidate for United States Senate, 2010

Perhaps, Assemblyman DeVore should either just resign from the Assembly so he can campaign for the United States Senate or concentrate on his job at hand. Obviously, he is not a great multi-tasker with his constituents in mind.

    Typical career politician.

CA-Sen: Who Won the First GOP Debate?

California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore reading his script at Republican U.S Senate debate last Friday. Tom Campbell on left.

The debate was last Friday and I know I am late posting my comments but with the Los Angeles Marathon fast approaching in about two weeks all of my attention is not focused on the Senate race.

Eric Hogue was the moderator and host of the debate. You can listen to it here.

The transcript has been posted and it is here.

I, generally, do not like radio debates or discussions because they are really not substantive debates. I prefer televised, live debates where you can see the candidates and get the measure of them, so to speak. Also, there are no aides, or scripts and everyone is assembled at one place at one time.

In this discussion, Carly Fiorina was participating from her home via telephone and Chuck DeVore read most of his remarks from prepared notes. Tom Campbell also had his briefing papers and obviously read from them. A live debate is much more off the cuff and a candidate will be punished by reading too much from prepared talking points.

    So, who won?

I would say nobody because California voters at this point in the election cycle are not concentrating on this race. Tom Campbell who called for this discussion/debate comes off as a bit of a loser because of his weak remarks regarding his associations with Islamic terrorists.

Carly Fiorina proved she could mix it up with the boys and Chuck DeVore proved he can read.

Of course, all three campaigns said they won.

    Standard.

Update Three: CA-Sen: Chuck DeVore’s Demon Sheep Website Springs a Leak – DeVore Sucks

From California Assemblyman Chuck DeVore’s Demon Sheep Parody website

Looks like someone is clowning DeVore at his own parody of Carly Fiorina’s Demon sheep ad.

And, in the e-mail comes this clowning of DeVore:

“Finland had a better chance of winning than Chuck DeVore”

Referring, of course, to the 2010 Winter Olympics United States Ice Hockey blow-out win of 6-1 over Finland this afternoon.

And, one more time from the e-mail: DeVore is a Painful Douche

    Ouch……

They keep coming in the e-mail:

“Hey Chuck, you boob, why’d you vote for that 2005 budget, you big librul”

    Readers,

You are killing me – with laughter.
