Timm Herdt of the Ventura County Star Learns of Political Endorsements from Websites?; Update: And Still Gets Tony Strickland’s WRONG

    Apparently so.

If you want to see a full list, one is available on Jackson’s website. On the Strickland website under “endorsements,” however, the message reads: “This page will be updated shortly.”

But, how did he write the rest of his piece?

    Oh Yeah!

    Press releases or actual reporting.

So, the piece’s title should read: Tony Strickland’s web master failed to write down his too numerous endorsements.

    Right?

    Try this link, Timm.

    Update:

By the way, Timm, please revise your piece. Tony Strickland has won the endorsement of Santa Barbara City Councilman Dale Francisco so your statement that Hannah-Beth Jackson has the unanimous endorsement of the Santa Barbara City Council does NOT pass FACT CHECK.

Hannah-Beth Jackson Dodges Santa Barbara County Taxpayers Association Forum – YET….The VC Star Writes More

    sbta

    Santa Barbara County Taxpayers Association

Timm Herdt of the Ventura County Star likes beating a dead horse with another piece today about Hannah-Beth Jackson dodging a voters’ forum sponsored by the Santa Barbara County Taxpayers Association and Katie Teague bitching that Tony Strickland won’t consent to being trashed by the California Association of Political Centrists.

    But, there is THANKFULLY more:

The candidates appeared together for the first time Sunday morning at the regular “bagel brunch” held by the men’s group at Temple Adat Elohim in Thousand Oaks.

Group President John Saulino said the event, moderated by Rabbi Ted Riter, was attended by about 125 people. He described the two-hour forum as cordial and informational.

Strickland and Jackson have agreed to joint appearances on Oct. 3 at an event sponsored by the Ventura Chamber of Commerce and an Oct. 10 forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Ventura County.

Zoe Taylor, president and CEO of the Ventura Chamber, said a location has not yet been selected for the evening forum, which will feature only the Senate candidates and be moderated by Star Editor and Vice President Joe Howry.

She said the event will be “more of a town hall than a forum” and will feature questions from the public, although the process for screening and selecting those questions has not yet been developed.

The chamber event will be taped by community access television and will be made available for showing to cable TV franchises throughout the county.

Like Flap said yesterday, there would be numerous opportunities for Ventura County voters to see and meet the candidates in a neutral forum which would be fair to both candidates.

The rest is just HOT AIR.

Hannah-Beth Jackson Dodges Santa Barbara County Taxpayers Association Forum – YET….

    sbta

    Santa Barbara County Taxpayers Association

Liberal Democrat Hannah-Beth Jackson dodged a Santa Barbara County Taxpayer Association forum and yet the Ventura County Star editorializes that Tony Strickland should be ashamed of himself for avoiding one with an organization that is dedicated to trash him.

    From the press release:

On Thursday, September 11, the Board of Directors of the Santa Barbara County Taxpayers Association (SBCTA) hosted State Senate Candidate Tony Strickland. Both candidates in the high-profile race to replace Senator Tom McClintock were invited to attend and participate in a forum. But only Tony Strickland chose to accept the invitation. Strickland used the opportunity to discuss his vision and ideas and take questions.

“With an ongoing state budget crisis and energy crisis as well as the slowing economy being the key issue facing California today, the SBCTA planned to use this important opportunity to ask some tough questions of both candidates”, said Executive Director Joe Armendariz. “I was both surprised and disappointed that Hannah-Beth wasn’t willing to set aside an hour to address these important issues with the members of the Association.”

“There are families here in Santa Barbara that are finding it hard to make ends meet with the high price of gas, groceries and other basic necessities,” says SBCTA Past President Jan Evans. “Needless to say, we were disappointed that Hanna-Beth Jackson decided not to participate in the forum.”

The SBCTA was founded in 1956 and represents the interests of families, individuals and small, medium and large businesses throughout Santa Barbara County. For over fifty years, SBCTA has been a steady voice of reason in the public policy arena and brings reason based on expertise and impartial analysis to public policy issues. The Association has consistently represented taxpayers by examining important community concerns and urging lawmakers to responsibly manage the fiscal affairs of local government.

Let’s face it. Campaigns pick and choose debates, forums, talks to BENEFIT their candidate’s chances of being elected.

Political organizations and newspapers have their own agendas to promote and make/raise money.

An independent organization (s), mutually agreed upon, by both campaigns with a moderator or panel of questioners which is fair and balanced could be selected.

The forum/debate could be televised if audience details could be worked out so that one campaign would not be able to “stack” the audience. Or, televised without an audience.

The banter by the Ventura County Star is naive and unproductive.  They should know better.

Tony Strickland Watch: Why Bother with Katie Teague and the California Association of Poltical Centrists?

    Katie Teague 1

Ventura County Republican Party (VCRP) Annual BBQ :
Katie Teague and Rita Graham at the check-in Circa Fall 2005 (?)

Why should former California Assemblyman Tony Strickland care about the California Association of Political Centrists (CAPC) and the debate/forum with Hannah-Beth Jackson they have scheduled for Wednesday of this week?

He shouldn’t because it is a political set-up (to trash Strickland) facilitated by two disgruntled Republicans, one who was ousted as the Chairwoman of the Republican Party of Ventura County, Leslie Conejo and Katie Teague who is on the CAPC Advisory Council.

Steve Frank has more on the FLAP.

Any moaning that Tony Strickland is not attending the event is just HOT AIR.

Hannah-Beth Jackson Watch: Here Come “Hide the Ball” Campaign Contributions

The record of an Assemblywoman that is not a friend to the California taxpayer.

Flap said the Democrat Party campaign transfer contributions would come and here they are. Timm Herdt has a piece up today noting the Democrat “launder job” from the Santa Barbara Denmocrat Central Committee.

Campaign finance reports show she received $55,000 Friday from the Santa Barbara County Democratic Central Committee. That comes on the heels of a $156,000 contribution from the state Democratic Party the previous Friday.

Trying to determine where the Santa Barbara County Committee raised its money, I checked the secretary of state’s campaign finance site and found no electronic reports had been filed for the last several years. The explanation, Chairman Daraka Larimore-Hall, told me today is that all of the money was received after June 30. Unlike candidates, who have to report contributions of $1,000 or more within 24 hours, political committees do not have to file another report until Oct. 6.

Larimore-Hall said the money came from “several sources,” including Democratic state senators who are supporting Jackson’s campaign.

So, what is wrong with this picture?

    hannah-beth-Jackson12w

    Hannah-Beth Jackson

Voters in the California State Senate District 19 have no idea where her campaign contributions are coming from in direct contrast to the intent of California political campaign contribution disclosure laws. The Republicans do this too but the California Democrat Party has made this “hide the ball” tactic an art form.

The informed and motivated voter would have to comb through hundreds of campaign reports filed either with the California Secretary of State or local county governments in order to find the actual source of the campaign cash. Can this be accomplished timely – like in time for the election?

    Doubtful

When Hannah-Beth Jackson criticised her opponent former California Assemblyman Tony Strickland this summer for some Tobacco company contributions, Flap pointed out that Hannah-Beth Jackson was blowing smoke. Of course, her hypocrisy abounds since previous contributors to her campaign had accepted the same tobacco company contributions.

And, Flap showed that Hanna-Beth Jackson has indeed received INDIRECT tobacco company/industry contributions during this campaign cycle.

So, when she says that she ” I have not and will not solicit or accept contributions from tobacco companies” she doesn’t have to do so. The California Democrat Party, various National Democrat Party campaign committees and California Democrat Legislative leaders already have donated or loaned money to her campaign. This allows Jackson to demagogue the tobacco issue against Tony Strickland and to score cheap political points.

Let’s go over a brief history of how California Legislative campaigns are funded. Flap draws upon his experience as being a former member of the California Dental Association’s Council on Legislation and the local Santa Barbara-Ventura County Dental Society’s Cal-D-Pac representative (CAl-D-Pac) for the legislative process history.

The California Democrat Party for decades has used an ingenious system of party committee transfers to insulate their members from campaign reporting scrutiny and to deliver needed funds to those members/candidates who either ingratiate themselves (promise to vote for the leader for various leadership positions) and/or who are in tight races with the Republicans. The transfer mechanism constitute a type of “SLUSH FUND.”

For example, long-time Democrat Assembly Speaker Willie Brown, now the former Mayor of San Francisco as well, would collect money from all the special interests with business before the California Legislature, bundle all of the contributions and then dole them out to whoever was his friend. This has been repeated over and over again for the past decade with various legislative leaders even as term limits and campaign contribution reporting and limitation laws changed.

The reader asks who is funding Hannah-Beth Jackson’s campaign, then? Well, you can go here and look at the contribution report and break it down by industry. Another report will be due October 6th where all of the post June 30th contributions will show up. And, you can go to electiontrack.com and subscribe to Scott Lay’s service and obtain daily e-mail alerts on her contributions (the 24 hour reporting rule is in effect for major contributions, greater than $1,000).

Yet, the top industry contributor to Hannah-Beth Jackson’s campaign will remain Democrat Candidate Committees and various Democrat Party Committees.

So much for transparency in Hannah-Beth Jackson’s campaign.

The record of an Assemblywoman that is not a friend to the California taxpayer.

Former Democrat Assemblywoman Hannah-Beth Jackson in a recent television ad claims “She never voted to increase the gas tax or weaken Proposition 13.

But, the truth is she voted for a bill vetoed by then Governor Gray Davis. And, why did Gray Davis veto the bill?

Oh, because it undermined Proposition 13.

Hannah-Beth Jackson = Taxin’ Jackson who cannot get her facts straight.

Barack Obama Supports California Gay/Same Sex Marriage

    obamagaypridebrochure

Barack Obama Pro- Gay political brochure

In a policy reversal Barack Obama has come out against The Limit on Marriage Constitutional Amendment, Proposition 8 which will be on California’s November Presidential ballot.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, who previously said the issue of gay marriage should be left up to each state, has announced his opposition to a California ballot measure that would ban same-sex marriages.

In a letter to the Alice B. Toklas LGBT Democratic Club read Sunday at the group’s annual Pride Breakfast in San Francisco, the Illinois senator said he supports extending “fully equal rights and benefits to same-sex couples under both state and federal law.”

“And that is why I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states,” Obama wrote.

Obama had previously said he opposes same-sex marriage but that each state should make its own decision.

John McCain last week endorsed Proposition 8.

So, what does this mean in California?

Probably not much in the Presidential contest since California is a blue state where Obama should win handily. But, this may affect down Presidential ticket races like the Tony Strickland vs. Hannah-Beth Jackson California State Senate race. Strickland supports the constitutional ban on gay marriage and Jackson opposes it and favors gay marriage.

A direct contrast between Obama and McCain on the gay marriage issue will drive more evangelical and other Christian groups to the polls. Also, it will aid the GOP and the Strickland campaign in fundraising.

Flap is positive that the California Democrat Party would have desired Obama to stay out of this gay marriage fray. But, now that he has weighed in AND flip-flopped his position they will have to defend it.

    Advantage GOP.
