Democrat Minority Whip Rep. Steny Hoyer Says Tea Party Members Have Unhappy Families

Outgoing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi of Calif., left, and outgoing House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer of Md., take part in a news conference on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2011

    Say what?

There are a whole lot of people in the Tea Party that I see in these polls who don’t want any compromise. My presumption is they have unhappy families. All of you have been in families: single-parent, two-parents, whatever. Multiple parent and a stepfather. The fact is life is about trying to reach accommodation with one another so we can move forward. That is certainly what democracy is about. So if we are going to move forward compromise is necessary.

    Good grief.

Steny Hoyer is so out of touch with American voters.

The Tea Party movement is not motivated by, as its members claim, record-high levels of spending and debt by the federal government and the possible economic consequences of that. It is not upset by the various federal bailouts of recent years. It is not riled up by a stagnant economy with 9.8% unemployment. No, they go to rallies because it is easier than going home apparently.

Of course, this is better than former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi who maintained the Tea Party was “astroturf” and really did not exist.

Oh! “Can you hear us now?”

IN-Sen: Tea Party Challenge to Sen. Richard Lugar in 2012?

Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., left, and the committee’s ranking Republican, Sen. Richard Lugar, R-Ind., take part in a news conference, on Capitol Hill in Washington Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010, after the Senate’s ratification of the New START Treaty

    Count on it.

Fettig and Boyer originally requested the meeting as representatives of Hoosiers for Conservative Senate, an organization of roughly 60 Tea Party groups formed to find a conservative primary challenger to Lugar, or force his retirement.

Lugar and a pair of staffers discussed a range of federal issues, including the role of earmarks and the Federal Reserve. Fettig and Boyer objected to Lugar’s sponsorship of the DREAM Act, his support for the ratification of the START nuclear arms treaty during the lame-duck session of Congress, and his votes to confirm Supreme Court Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan.

Mark Hayes, a spokesman for Lugar, was in the room and acknowledged that “not everybody is going to agree with everything” the senator has done in his long career.

But, Hayes told CNN, “[Lugar’s] preference is to sit down and have a conversation, to understand where they’re coming from, and really to point out the high degree of similarities, for the most part, on a lot of different issues. It was a good conversation.”

Fettig called Lugar “likeable” and “a lovely human being,” but said Lugar should prepare for a Tea Party challenge.

“We weren’t swayed,” he told CNN. “We equated it to going out on a football field, shaking hands, flipping the coins, and game on. He wants to win, and we want to win.”

Hoosiers for Conservative Senate is convening a “Road To Retirement” event in Indianapolis on Jan. 22 in Indianapolis, where organizers hope that an array of Tea Party groups can unite around one Republican candidate to challenge Lugar in the May 2012 primary.

Fettig named state Sen. Mike Delph and Treasurer Richard Mourdock as challengers who could earn the Tea Party group’s blessing.

Richard Lugar has grown too “RINO” Left on too mnay issues for the conservative red state of Indiana. He will be replaced as the Republican nominee in 2012.

Wonder if South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint’s PAC and/or Club for Growth will involve themselves?

  • Dream Act,  Tea Party

The Tea Party Killed the DREAM Act

Supporters of the Federal DREAM Act participate in a candle-light procession and vigil in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010. The Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act, which Congress will begin debating Wednesday, would allow the legalization of people who illegally entered the United States before they turned 16, who have been here for less than five years and who complete at least two years at a college or university, or join the military, among other requirements

I agree with Mickey Kaus that the Tea Party was a major contributing factor in the defeat of the DREAM Act. Also, read Roy Beck’s of Numbers USA piece here.

But, the Club for Growth, Senator Jim DeMint’s PAC, Sarah Palin and other conservative grass root groups also organized/enabled rank and file conservative activists to buck/challenge establishment GOP candidates and hold them accountable for squishy left-leaning votes (like voting for any type of  illegal alien amnesty masquerading as comprehensive immigration reform).

Two other races that come to mind are Utah Senator Bob Bennett (who voted for DREAM) who was defeated for GOP renomination (hence Orrin Hatch’s absence from voting on DREAM and perhaps the Montana Democrats voting No) and Pennsylvania’s long time Senator Arlen Specter who switched parties (when it was apparent he would not win GOP re-nomination) and then was beaten in the general election (Specter did vote for DREAM).

After seeing what happened to their colleagues, there is little doubt that long term Republican Senators felt more comfortable in voting with their caucus than to be a maverick and face the wrath of a contested primary election their next election.

Republican incumbent GOP Senators and Representatives will be held accountable for their political actions. With Twitter, YouTube and Facebook covering/documenting their every vote, fundraisers and speeches, they will vote their conservative constituencies or be replaced with candidates that will. This is especially true in small population states with less expensive media markets e.g. Indiana, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska.

Yeah Mickey, Democracy is a wonderful thing.

Day By Day November 12, 2010 – Drive

Day By Day by Chris Muir

Chris, American voters helped by patriots from the Tea Party movement wrested control of the House from the LEFT and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The GOP almost captured the Senate but there will be a number of Democrats and Republican Senators who are up for re-election in 2012 who will heed well the election results of 2010. Plus, there will be new conservative Representatives and Senators who will pave the way (Marco Rubio and Rand Paul come to mind).

As far as earmarks and profligate spending is concerned. Forget about it.

Americans have grown tired of tax and spend and DEBT.

POLS who pork barrel spend like the old days will be retired at their next election – bet the farm on it.

President 2012 Poll Watch: GOP Enthusiasm Could Spell Trouble for Obama

Nate Silver makes some interesting observations about GOTV, ground operations for Obama Vs. the GOP in 2012.

On the surface, this looks like horrible news for Democrats: the enthusiasm gap was the largest in precisely those states that a Democrat (or a Republican for that matter) needs to win the Presidency.

But there is something else to keep in mind. Mr. Obama’s campaign had a terris ific turnout operation, and — like any good turnout operation — it was concentrated in swing states. Mr. McCain’s campaign, by contrast, de-emphasized its “ground game” (a mistake that Karl Rove and George W. Bush would never have made), hoping to nationalize the election and win on the basis of television commercials.

What we’re probably seeing, then, is the “hangover” from the Mr. Obama’s turnout efforts in 2008. In states like Ohio and New Hampshire and Indiana, where Democrats registered tons of new voters and made sure that all of them got to the polls, a lot of them didn’t participate this time around. In other states, the electorate wasn’t much different and the people who were voting this year strongly resembled those who voted in 2010 — although Republicans still did better because the preferences of independent voters shifted toward them.

This sort of phenomenon is actually quite typical. In general, the bigger a President’s coattails, the more his party tends to suffer at the next midterm.

The key question for 2012 is whether those new voters will re-enter the electorate when Mr. Obama is on the ballot again. If so, Democrats should be in reasonably good shape — and they’ll also win back quite a few of the House seats that they lost in these states.

If not, however — or if Republicans are able to build a get-out-the-vote effort that is the equal of Mr. Obama’s — we could be up very late into the evening counting votes on Nov. 6, 2012.

This is a role where The Tea Party Movement can help supply the volunteers in key battleground states.

Time to organize. The data is there.

Election 2010: How Successful Was the Tea Party Movement?

Tea Party Patriots Keli Carender (R) of Seattle, Washington, and Diana Reimer of Pennsylvania hold flags during a Flag Ceremony at the U.S. Capitol in Washington November 2, 2010. After a long and bitter campaign, Americans cast their votes on Tuesday in elections that could sweep Democrats from power in Congress and slam the brakes on President Barack Obama’s legislative agenda

32 Per Cent in the House and 50 Per Cent in the U.S. Senate?

But, what the Left-leaning media does not understand is that The Tea Party Movement is not about one election. It is about organization and policy.

Tuesday’s results make clear the Tea Party is the most dynamic and successful grass-roots political movement since Thomas Jefferson and James Madison organized the Democratic-Republican revolt against John Adams and the Federalists in 1800.

They did so because they did exactly what they should have done. Instead of fighting specific issues and causes like Card Check and cap-and-trade, they ignored their critics while focusing their energies on finding, fielding, funding and fueling candidates for elected office at every level of government, but especially for Congress.

President Obama and the 2012 GOP Presidential candidates will find out soon enough how successful they were.

CA-Sen Video: Carly Fiorina on the Power of the Tea Party Movement in California

GOP U.S. Senate nominee Carly Fiorina tells the San Francisco Chronicle editorial board writers and reporters what she thinks of the Tea Party Movement

A number of Tea Party organizations will be coming to the aid of Carly Fiorina in the closing days of the campaign. Whether it be in direct contributions or third party independent expenditures remains to be seen.

So we’ve all heard about how the Tea Party-faithful are influencing elections in Delaware and Alaska, etc. Also helping out is the Sacramento-based Tea Party Express, which is throwing cash all around the country, but could only pony up a few grand for GOP Senate candidate Chuck DeVore. He lost to the better-funded Carly Fiorina.

The Chronicle has learned about a Bay Area-based independent expenditure campaign called Patriots for Truth PAC aims to keep Tea Party money in California — and use it to take on Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer, for starters. You can find out more about them here. You can find out more about them here and they’re tweeting here.

    Stay tuned…..

Day By Day September 16, 2010 – Back to Formula

Day By Day by Chris Muir

The Republican Party establishment had its hat handed to it with the election of Christine O’Donnell over RINO Mike Castle in Tuesday’s Delaware U.S. Senate election.

What both Democratic and Republican Party apparatchiks don’t understand is that Americans are very angry at their government which has been UNRESPONSIVE to them. Voters do NOT care what party, but how they vote on the issues.

Americans voted for President Obama in 2008 because they were tired of the duplicity of the George W. Bush years and the corruption of the GOP in the Congress. Now that Obama, Pelosi and Reid have been exposed as “Big Government” frauds, voters will show them the door as well.

    “Do you hear us now?”

    Sincerely, Your Tea Party.
