John McCain Watch: Speech Excerpts from the Republican National Convention

From the Republican National Committee:

SAINT PAUL, Minn. – This evening U.S. Sen. John McCain will accept the Republican Party’s nomination for President of the United States. Excerpts from Sen. McCain’s acceptance speech, as prepared for delivery, are below.

On running mate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin:

“I’m very proud to have introduced our next Vice President to the country. But I can’t wait until I introduce her to Washington. And let me offer an advance warning to the old, big spending, do nothing, me first, country second Washington crowd: change is coming.”

On solving problems in Washington:

“The constant partisan rancor that stops us from solving these problems isn’t a cause, it’s a symptom. It’s what happens when people go to Washington to work for themselves and not you.

Again and again, I’ve worked with members of both parties to fix problems that need to be fixed. That’s how I will govern as President. I will reach out my hand to anyone to help me get this country moving again. I have that record and the scars to prove it. Senator Obama does not.”

On love of country:

“I fell in love with my country when I was a prisoner in someone else’s. I loved it not just for the many comforts of life here. I loved it for its decency; for its faith in the wisdom, justice and goodness of its people. I loved it because it was not just a place, but an idea, a cause worth fighting for. I was never the same again. I wasn’t my own man anymore. I was my country’s.”

i think john mccain speech could have been better. thou i do not agree with most of his policies i found his speech showed him to be a good and honest man who honestly believes in what he says. he definately has problems with public speaking and will have problems debating barrack obama. anyway i really doesn’t matter cause barrack obama with win this election in a landslide and mccaine will be a remembered as a decient opponent ..

i have sattelite cable here in australia[its the only t.v i get cause i live in the bush and its pretty remote] and enjoy watching the fox news hype. i find it amusing that these guy at fox think they are reporters, but really they have become a tool for the conservatives; esp sean hannity.
i do like john mccain but he doesn’t have leadership qualities. a great leader should be visionary, inspirational, unifying, have broadbased policies and have a great intellectual capacity and john mccaine doesn’t quite fit this .but barrack obama is another story ,he looks as if he was born a leader.
i didn’t like how john mccaine keeped referring to his war history and torture as if it was a requirement to be president . he should have spoken more about his achievements since being a public servant rather than is war services, cause there is a lifetime gap which should have been rich with achievements. but he did come across as a decent man.
my interst in the USA presidential race is because the future for war peace is at stake and one we need a world leader who will bring this peace and not more wars like g.w.bush did and pass it off as being patriotic. the USA has never been more despised ,even by its allies, than in recent history.the USA needs a leader who will unify the world not bomb it into submission. the USA needs a leader who will drastically change its foreign policies for the better of the whole of mankind not the few.and really the USA needs a leader who will put americas interest first not israels.
