Barack Obama Watch: The Jeremiah Wright Problem

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago’s south side.

The racial gloves are off regarding Barack Obama’s history and associations, including the Pastor at his church, Jeremiah Wright.

Sen. Barack Obama’s pastor says blacks should not sing “God Bless America” but “God damn America.”

The Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Obama’s pastor for the last 20 years at the Trinity United Church of Christ on Chicago’s south side, has a long history of what even Obama’s campaign aides concede is “inflammatory rhetoric,” including the assertion that the United States brought on the 9/11 attacks with its own “terrorism.”

In a campaign appearance earlier this month, Sen. Obama said, “I don’t think my church is actually particularly controversial.” He said Rev. Wright “is like an old uncle who says things I don’t always agree with,” telling a Jewish group that everyone has someone like that in their family.

Rev. Wright married Obama and his wife Michelle, baptized their two daughters and is credited by Obama for the title of his book, “The Audacity of Hope.”

If Obama is to have ANY credibility with “other” Democrats, he will have to repudiate Jeremiah Wright as he has done with Louis Farrakahn.

If there is NOT a repudiation then Obama cannot be considered a post-racial figure.

Should McCain reject those that say America was founded to destroy Islam?

    Should he repudiate him?

Should he repudiate Hagee for saying Gays called Katrina?

    • Flap

And, you think this is the same?

McCain was not a member of this Ohio church or write a book based on sermons like Obama did.

So, an ambiguous stretch of a metaphor.

YOU tell me, Brian – I mean blah. Should McCain repudiate Hagee?

    Blacks 4 Barack (A Multi-Racial Org.)
    Announces:
The ‘WE WILL NOT BE CHEATED’
    Phone Campaign To DNC !

Out of desperation, the Clinton campaign has stooped to extreme lows by having surrogate Geraldine Ferraro in the media making racist statements against Barack Obama combined with prompting the media to attempt to chastise Obama for rhetoric spewd by not him….but by his preacher! Realistically speaking, it is a fact that even if Hillary wins Pennsylvania there is absolutely no way she can get enough delegate votes to defeat Obama. And her BIG ploy now is to have a ‘re-do’ in Michigan and Florida, despite the fact that this would be a changing of the rules in the middle of the game which should not be allowed. (rules that Howard Dean of the DNC, Harold Ickes, a chief Hillary advisor and Donna Brazil a regular on CNN who never exposes that she helped set the rules in August of 2007 as a member of the DNC Laws and ByLaws Committee) If allowed to have the rules changed for her benefit, Hillary then hopes that, after stealing the nomination, she will offer Obama the V.P. slot….figuring that if he excepts, Obama supporters will vote for her….while if he does not….she would at least look like she offered the slot. THIS IS UNEXCEPTABLE !

Hillary Clinton’s (and the DNC’s)coniving tactics will end up ruining the Democratic Party. Now is the time to let Howard Dean, Donna Brazil, Harold Ickes and the entire DNC know that if Hillary wins through ANY methods deemed trickery (which is the only way she can win) WE….THE PEOPLE WILL NOT SUPPORT HER IN THE GENERAL ELECTION !

National radio talk show host Warren Ballentine is asking EVERYONE to call the DNC at 202-863-8000 to let them know ‘We Will Not Support A Cheater !’We need 50 thousand Americans of all ages, races and creeds to FLOOD THE PHONES !!! Call Today !!!! 202-863-8000. Say It Loud….WE WILL NOT SUPPORT A CHEATER…..PERIOD!!! Tell everyone you know to make this call. The Time Is NOW….for the Re-Birth of America !!!!

NOTE: The Media refuses to inform America that OBAMA WON TEXAS !!!!!

Jeremiah Wright’s radical views were no secret. They have been a topic on talk radio for months while there has been a de facto MSM blackout of Barack’s church. It is interesting that Wright’s views were little discussed while Mitt’s church received intense religious scrutiny. To borrow a phrase, it has taken a while for the chickens to come home to roost.

    Flap,

I take you at your word you have never heard the wacky things Robertson has said over the years. Here is a few:

“I would warn Orlando that you’re right in the way of some serious hurricanes, and I don’t think I’d be waving those flags in God’s face if I were you, This is not a message of hate — this is a message of redemption. But a condition like this will bring about the destruction of your nation. It’ll bring about terrorist bombs; it’ll bring earthquakes, tornadoes, and possibly a meteor.”

Flap, should all politicians avoid hanging out with people that blame natural disasters on gay people?

    And…

“Well, I totally concur.” –Pat Robertson to Jerry Falwell following the Sept. 11 attacks, after Falwell said, “I really believe that the pagans, and the abortionists, and the feminists, and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle, the ACLU, People For the American Way — all of them who have tried to secularize America — I point the finger in their face and say: “You helped this happen.”

So we have two fringe religious figures that blame America for 9/11. I think they are both not worthy of sharing a stage with a national figure.

Do you agree, or do you make exceptions for Republicans?

Do you think God was angry with us and that’s why 9/11 happened?

I think it is clearly the work of evil people. But both of these fringe figures thinks it is America’s fault.

  • Flap

Of course, I do not believe those statements. But, you did not provide links as to who said them. But, again, I am not the issue since I am not running for President

You are setting up a strawman argument here – a logical fallacy.

The entire Flap is over Barack Obama’s judgement.

The issue is Barack Obama and his association of over 20 years with Jeremiah Wright. Why did Obama not protest these extreme radical views of Wright?

Please see my other more recent posts about this very issue. Go here.

    • Blah

They were by Pat Robertson. I am agreeing with you that the statements made by Wright make it so no national figure running for president should share the stage with him.

I am just pointing out that Rudy Giuliani shared the stage with Robertson and was proud of his endorsement.

I think it is wrong when Democrats AND Republican do it.

Do you think it was wrong for Rudy to accept and be proud of Robertson’s endorsement?

Was it wrong of McCain to seek and accept the endorsement of Hagee?

Does your religious extremism outrage only work on against those on the left?

If you need some odd ball Robertson statements you can go here:

      • Flap

More strawman arguments – and logical fallacies.

This is a thread about Obama and Jeremiah Wright not Pat Robertson.

        I already mentioned Hagee here.

Read the most current threads on Obama here.

Do you think this flap on Wright is a deathblow to Obama’s campaign?

        • Blah

I think Robertson didn’t take down Giuliani and Hagee likely won’t stop McCain so I see no difference.

But good job not answering the questions.

Just try to say it. It is beneath a national leader to share a stage with religious extremists that blame America for actions by terrorists or for natural disasters. It doesn’t matter if it is John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, or John McCain. They were all wrong.

This thread is about religious extremists.

          • Flap

Your questions are irrelevant and your arguments are logical fallacies.

This thread is about Obama’s lack of judgment and credibility. But, this post is one of many.

Obama, is not an electable candidate, he knows that. His past is Lurid, his friends and Mentors are real bad and disgusting. He is a good speaker but he cant deliver anything. If by chance he became the nominee Independents, Democrats especially what we saw in Ohio, Texas the whites are against this Obama. His Mentor the preacher that married him, baptized his children now hollers do not say GOD BLESS AMERICA but SAY GOD DAMM AMERICA. This appears to go along with Obama’s thinking, wont support our Flag, wear its pin on his Lapel, Salute our Flag. How does this impostor think that he will get elected. McCain will trounce him. Hillary Clinton will be our next President along with her Husband who inherited the largest Deficit that this country had that Reagan left. The Elder Bush did not know what to do with that Deficit, so along comes Clinton and yes he commits a MORTAL SIN, what other countrys that their Leaders have not had Mistresses? Life was good here, people made good money, no house foreclosures, the DOLLAR WAS THE KING OF MONEY, our friends loved us. Bill Clinton is the only person in this world that will bring up the dollar back to what it should be and bring all our friends that are against us. When Bill Clinton helped the people in KOSOVO, yes it was a war, we lost NO MILITARY PERSONEL. He did it right not like Bush did. Obama states that he voted against the Iraq War. What if he became President and he tells us that Iran is on the verge of attacking the United States with Nuclear Weapons arent we supposed to believe our President. Then when Bush told us that Iraq had Nuclear Weapons, what if they did attack us, where and what would Obama say then that he voted against the Iraq War. Lets put someone with brains and Intelligence in office not an Impostor.

The big O has let us down..is this about him or about the Democratic Party. What will the Republican 529’s do with his mentor and the book he wrote praising that man for leading him to Christianity. Why did he not understand that this kind of association is a lead ball taking us all down to the bottom of the sea. I want to win..Hillary is the one…all the negatives about her over and over in the press are overkill..at least all her stuff is out there over and over again..what more surprises does the big O have for us…it was a take it or leave it deal…we are too good to wait or to do a do over says Michelle…who owes you anything…the rest of us know about struggle and poverty..you do not own it. Too much Hubris we had enough of that..were you so dumb that you did not know this was a big negative that would bring you and the rest of us down…enough with lame candidates…we had two and blew it…when will we ever learn…as Carl Rove laughs in the background.
