How To: Get Your Teeth Fixed in Mexico

Flap ran across this How To piece about receiving dental treatment in Mexico. Although Flap has met a few Mexican colleagues over the years, he would not recommend this approach.

In the United States, major dental work can be financially ruinous. Without belaboring the lively political topic of why this is, I am here to report that it is possible for a US resident to save 75% or more on major dental work by the simple expedient of having it done in Mexico.

Inside, my story and practical details for others whose dentists may be about to give them a nasty surprise.

The Nasty Surprise for this patient is when this case fails in a few years.

I have had some experience with Mexican Dentistas. It was five years ago and all I needed was a tooth pulled. All the US dentists in the area (Orange Country) wanted exorbident amounts of money to do it, as much as $300.00. I even went to a county facility for indigent people and they too wanted upwards to $100.00, the extraction to take place at Martin Luther King Hospital in four days. I was hurting and desperate. I was (am) out of work and could afford very little. Then a woman who had overheard me at the desk came to me and said she knew a dentista that worked out of this garage and charged very little. I was leary but desperate so I went to meet him. Dr. Guzman pulled my tooth for $25.00 with no pain and no complications, gave me a pain pill anyway and penicillan and told me to call if I needed him. It was great!!! I have since gone to him several times for dental work over the years and each time was pleased with his work and was charged what I felt was a fair price. I have no complaints.

However, Dr. Guzman seems to have disappeared and now that I need him again, I am thinking about going down to Tiajuana and search for another dentista for another extraction. I will let you know how it went when I get back.
