Dick Durbin Watch: FBI Memo Embellished?
Did Senator Dick Durbin embellish the FBI Gitmo Memo on the floor of the United States Senate?
Via Myopic Zeal is the allegation that Durbin may have fabricated parts of his “torture†example drawn from a confidential FBI memo. The charge is buried at the bottom of a Friday story on Foxnews.com:
“One knowledgeable official familiar with the memo cited by Durbin as well as other memos said the FBI agent made no such allegation and that the memo described only someone chained to the floor. Anything beyond that is simply an interpretation, the official said.â€

The real issue is whether this type of treatment of enemy combatants, who have killed or have taken up arms against the United States is appropriate under the circumstances?
Is it as Senator Durbin states?
If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags, or some mad regime–Pol Pot or others–that had no concern for human beings. Sadly, that is not the case. This was the action of Americans in the treatment of their prisoners.
The answer is NO and Durbin should apologize to the many American service men and women at Gitmo.
