Scott Peterson Watch: Peterson Appeal Newsletter

From So Cal Lawyer and the SoCal Law Blog, First a Website, Now a Monthly Newsletter for Scott Peterson

Scott Peterson’s website received a lot of media attention earlier this year. Now his family have issued the first issue of a Monthly Newsletter where you can read a message from the Peterson Family, a description of the California Appeal Process, Lee Peterson’s description of his first “contact visit with Scott Peterson in San Quentin and “The Whole Truth Featured Fact.”

Funny, the newsletter was silent on Scott’s unsuccessful efforts to deprive Laci’s mother of life insurance proceeds from the death of Laci. I guess that was not newsworthy.

On a related note, the Scott is Innocent website has posted many of the court documents from the trial here.

Message from the Peterson Family September 2005

Dear Friends,

It is with gratitude and sincere thanks to all of you that we are able to produce this newsletter. Your support and prayers over the last two and a half years are what enable us to continue in our fight for justice. This is a cooperative effort of our family, friends and gracious professionals who have lent us their expertise.

Many of you have made inquiries about Scott and the status of his case. Part of what we hope to do with this newsletter is to help answer those questions and share our knowledge with you. Specific to our case, we will keep you informed as to the legal process and have a monthly feature of facts to reveal the truth. Many of you have followed the case closely, so we will ask for your thoughts and insights to be as thorough as possible.

We’ve found ourselves tethered to many causes and we hope to shed light in many of those areas as well. The topics of articles will include wrongful convictions, the death penalty and legal issues.

Our goal is to keep you informed, but our hope is for more people to see the truth: the truth of every circumstance and the truth of Scott’s innocence. With your continuing support we look forward to the challenges ahead, and pray that we have learned and become better people from the challenges behind us. Thank you for subscribing.

With deep appreciation,
The Peterson Family

I’m glad to see some forward movement from the Scott peterson supporters. It makes me kind of sick to know that a man is on death row and I for one, saw no real evidence to persuade me that he belongs there.

The Modesto Police Department sold their spin of possible events to the jury and I am reminded of when the Yosemite murders were being investigated, the MPD assured us they had the culprits in custody and they had admitted to the crime. It was a real shock to them when Cary Staynor murdered again in El portal and knew facts of the Yosemite murders that only the perpetuator would be aware of. So much for their spin. They were wrong then and I believe they may be wrong with Scott. Evidence, not spin is what we need.

I cannot believe Scott was convicted and I am amazed that he could have been sent to death row. I always thought the judge was supposed to keep jurers from making big mistakes that results in miscarriages of justice but I guess not in this case. They could not find any direct evidence but could decide that it was first degree. The jury must have been clairvoyant.

Peterson was, and still is scum. Only fools would maintain that he is innocent. The jury dealt with the facts that they were given and found him guilty. He can run through the appeals process – and his conviction may be overturned on technicalities. This is the way the justice system works. Until there is a final finding of innocence, Peterson is, and should be considered a murderer.

The prosecution proved over and over again with their own witnesses and evidence that it was completely impossible for Peterson to have had any involvement at all in the abduction and later death of his wife and child. Their total inability to provide even one molecule of incriminating evidence further destroyed their own case. All they managed to do was arouse such a fury of hatred against Peterson that he was denied his right to an unbiased jury of his peers.
