Giuliani says winning war on terror vital to country’s future

Texas Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani today told a crowd at Texas A-and-M University that the country’s freedom and economic prosperity is tied to the country winning the war on terror.

The former New York City mayor appeared before about 25-hundred people.

He reiterated his support for President Bush’s handling of the war on terror and the conflict in Iraq, saying both are examples of how the country has gone on the offensive in trying to defeat terrorism.

Giuliani also continued to be critical of efforts by Democrats in Congress to place a timetable on troop withdrawal from Iraq.

Giuliani’s message garnered applause throughout his 30-minute speech at the conservative campus. Some in the crowd hissed when told that school officials hoped to have some of the Democratic presidential candidates speak in the fall.

Former President George H.W. Bush — whose presidential library is on campus — introduced Giuliani, praising his handling of events in New York City after the terrorist attacks.
