Michael B. Mukasey is President Bush’s Choice as the Next Attorney General

President Bush, right, announces his choice for attorney general, retired federal judge Michael Mukasey, left, replacing Alberto Gonzales, Monday, Sept. 17, 2007, in the Rose Garden of the White House in Washington.

Bush picks Mukasey for attorney general

President Bush, seeking to avert a possible confirmation fight over a more partisan candidate, chose retired federal judge Michael B. Mukasey Monday to replace Attorney General Alberto Gonzales. “Judge Mukasey is clear-eyed about the threat our nation faces,” Bush said.

If confirmed by the Senate, Mukasey, who has handled terrorism cases for more than a decade, would become Bush’s third attorney general. Bush said that as chief judge of the busy U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, Mukasey presided over high-profile national security cases.

“He knows what it takes to fight this war effectively and he knows how to do it in a manner consistent with our laws and our Constitution,” Bush said, standing next Mukasey in the Rose Garden.

Bush urged the Senate to quickly confirm Mukasey.

A good solid choice.

The best result from the Democrats indicating that Theodore Olson was too partisan and unacceptable is that Olson is now free to aid Rudy Giuliani in his quest for the GOP Presidential nomination.

In the Giuliani administration, you can bet that should Rudy pick Olson, he would fight for his confirmation.

Oh! I almost forgot to mention that Mukasey is a close ally of Rudy Giuliani as is Theodore Olson.

Stay tuned as the Democrats milk and drag out Mukasey’s confirmation process in order to receive more television time to attack the Bush Administration.
