Rudy Giuliani Watch: John McCain Gets Bump Out of New Hampshire in Florida

Republican presidential hopeful former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani gestures in front of a large tax form he is proposing as he speaks at the Coral Springs Charter School Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, in Coral Springs, Fla.

John McCain has received a bump up in support after winning the New Hampshire primary this past Tuesday. In the latest Survey USA poll he leads the field in a state where just a few weeks ago he trailed Rudy Giuliani by almost 20 points.

  • John McCain 27% (10%)
  • Rudy Giuliani 19% (29%)
  • Mitt Romney 17% (20%)
  • Mike Huckabee 17% (24%)
  • Fred Thompson 8% (8%)
  • Ron Paul 5% (-)

Poll conducted from 1/9-1/10. There were 502 likely Republican voters surveyed, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.5%. H/T Race42008

This bump may be the “stake in the heart” for the Giuliani campaign. But, remember the race may be closer, polls wrong (this poll could be an outlier) and Floridians will ultimately decide the race anyway – that is why we have elections.

Giuliani has said Florida is his “firewall” and has gone “all in” there. The campaign will keep plugging along to win this race.

Hsard to believe this kind of bump from winning just New Hampshire. I am reminded that Survey USA has always shown high nunbers for McCain.

The other campaigns are suppressing Rudy today. Piece after piece is coming out negatively.

    Seems more than a coincidence.

Remember all of the other campaigns are broke – except Romney who is probably through putting his own millions into second place finishes.

Rudy is camped out in Florida for the next two weeks and I bet he won’t go dark there.

If he loses, then it doesn’t matter.

BTW if McCain is the nominee, the GOP will lose in November – big time.

I read the NT Times hit piece on Rudy ( what else is new ). What other negative pieces are out there today on Rudy?

I agree with you on McCain. I am a moderate, but I have conservative friends who can’t stand him and would never vote for him. I have made hundreds of phone calls in California for Rudy, and literally have not talked to more than 2 McCain supporters.

There are a number of stories about the cash shortfall and the new polling numbers in Florida.

Rudy can turn things around and he CAN fight like hell.

He might as well go negative on McCain if he wins Michigan. He has nothing to lose. But, I doubt he will.

Back to the security business, speeches and golf for Rudy.

I will wait and see but I forsee a massive GOP loss with a McCain candidacy.

Rudy supporters should not get too down over one poll in Florida. As previously posted, the Survey USA Poll for New York was weighted heavily to up- state voters, when we all know that New York City and suburbs account for the bulk of votes in that state. There is no way Rudy loses to McCain in New York.

I does not make sense that a New Hampshire win catapults McCain to an eigth point lead over Rudy. McCain gains 28 points in 2 weeks. This doesn’t pass the smell test; particulary based on what I hear from the campaign about what is happening on the ground in Florida.

  • Flap

I agree but the other campaigns will fabricate stories to get Rudy folks to quit and people to stop giving money.

There are two weeks to go to Florida and if media costs $1 million a week I am sure Rudy can personally pay that himself.

Survey USA and other polling companies have an agenda at play. We saw how well the polls did in NH. No way does McCain get that kind of bump out of NH. NH is a joke with indy and same day registered voters. Bet they did not poll S. Florida because McCain will not gain traction in those large counties.

If McCain is the nominee, the GOP can pack it in across the Country. The man is unstable, supporter of CFR, illegal immigration, and is broke in his campaign and has to borrow money but the media doesn’t cover that.

Actually this kind of news ( which I consider BS ) just makes me work harder for Rudy. I must say the press is relentless about attacking Rudy. Every talking head asks his campaign about his “risky strategy”, now on the same day, we get news about his cash crunch and the polls on New York and Florida.

I wonder how much cash on hand Huckabee and McCain had on December 31? I guess we will know later this month. The fact is that Huckabee has very little cash and McCain is in debt; however the story is that Rudy has only $7 million.

Rudy has sufficient funds for Florida and then some. You are right, he can loan the campaign additonal funds if need be. If he wins Florida, there will be an immdediate influx of cash from supporters.

I wonder who or what campaign is responsible for the cash crunch story, which really isn’t a story when you look at the big picture?

  • Flap

Who stands to benefit if Rudy were to withdraw before February 5?

Is some consultant hoping to catch on with another candidate if Rudy fails?

Answer those questions and we have the answer.

Or is it Rudy to garner his own comeback story?

  • Samantha

Roy Bailey is out as the Finance Chair according to several blogs tonight.

Everyone I have talked with today has donated money so it would be interesting to see Rudy’s donations for today.

  • Flap

    Yeah I saw that.

But, what does that mean if he goes?

    Was he fired?

Have they really made an online plea – to blitz Florida and take on McCain?

  • Samantha

Don’t know what the deal is with Roy Bailey and so far have nothing confirmed with people I know. Did see Rudy’s schedule for FL for the next few days and he is everywhere.

Spoke for Rudy in Muskogee last night in OK — McCain and Romney spokesman did not show up. McCain had no support there.

People I know started donating in reaction to the media spin that was out there since the media has ignored the lack of money of other Republican candidates.

Know a lot of people in FL and they don’t see the McCain surge. Have family in S. FL that cannot figure out this latest poll. They don’t like McCain down there.

  • Samantha

I think that is an awesome idea! Can see the headlines of the Rudy grassroots raising several million for Rudy.

Cannot believe the bloggers are after Rudy on money but ignoring McCain has borrowed money from a bank and is using his donor list as collateral. Where is the outcry from that or are we seeing an agenda at play here?

  • Flap

An agenda at play. Do you think McCain really wants to go head to head with Rudy?

I do not have the web skills to put up a site but have the server space.

Do you know anyone that can put up a site like the Ron Paul people did.

I also have a forum where Rudy folks can message each other. I can set that up too.

    What do you think?

  • Samantha

Didn’t think McCain wanted to go head to head with Rudy but he is getting back to his arrogant self so all bets are off.

It also reminds me of what happened in SC in 2000 when McCain thought he had SC wrapped up and the nomination when he blamed then Gov Bush for the push poll and then Pat Robertson and it was neither. Remember the defeat in NH and how the media/polls had then Gov Bush going back to Texas and McCain winning but he lost SC.

Was part of a group that sent everything we could find to the Palmetto Journal on McCain and they published it because the material was sourced — even had some reporters from AZ helping with background.

Will check with someone that is co-owner of our Rudy Yahoo group and see if he will do it or knows someone. Am also on a site that has some website people. We are all Rudy people but are not a public forum. I am good friends with the guy from Okie Campaigns — wonder if he would help us out? He does candidate websites here. Think this is a great idea.

  • Flap

Great and get back to me. If you are on Facebook, you can add me and obtain all of my personal contact information including telephone number.

    We should move on this!

Okie Campaigns is a Facebook friend.
