California GOP Race Tightens – Now a Dead Heat

A supporter of Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani stands outside of a polling station in Coral Gables, Fla. where early voting began Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, two weeks before Election Day in Florida. Democratic and Republican presidential races are on the ballot, as well as a proposal designed to cut property taxes.

A New CNN, Politico and Los Angeles Times poll has the California race for the GOP nominaton for President in a DEAD HEAT.

  • McCain – 20%
  • Romney – 16%
  • Giuliani – 14%
  • Huckabee – 13%
  • Paul – 8%
  • Thompson – 6%

The results for all four were within the poll’s margin of error.

Survey was conducted Jan 11-13 of 255 likely Republican primary voters with a 6% MoE. H/T Race42008

The sample size is very small in this survey:

The poll interviewed 1,054 registered voters, including 384 likely to vote in the Democratic primary and 255 Republican likely voters. The margin of sampling error was 5 points among likely voters in the Democratic primary and 6 points among Republican likely voters.

And, the election is determined by a plurality in each Congressional District.

The L.A. Times/CNN/Politico poll, conducted Jan. 11 to 13 by Opinion Research Corporation, demonstrated the extreme fluidity of the race, particularly on the Republican side. Six in ten Republicans said they might change candidates in the next three weeks. Among Democrats, four in ten were waffling.

California’s GOP delegates are up for grabs.
