Photo of the Day: Michelle Obama Serves Up Food to Poor and Homeless with Cell Phones
A nice gesture by the FLOTUS, but……
It doesn’t detract from the first lady’s generous gesture or the real needs she seeks to highlight to ask two bothersome journalistic questions about these news photos:
If this unidentified meal recipient is too poor to buy his own food, how does he afford a cellphone?
And if he is homeless, where do they send the cellphone bills?
Michelle asks whether there is a government bailout to provide Blackberry Pearls, since there is one to already provide the poor cell phones.
Flap wants to know where he applies for his coupon for one?
Ya know spread the wealth around……

She’s first lady now and she can do what she thinks is right.
Hi Flap
Many poor people get prepaid phones. Many people eating in shelters have full or part time jobs and have some basics in life but don’t have a place to live or food security. The people living in the wash in Simi Valley frequently have cell phones.

Looks like a Blackberry to me.
He is probably like the homeless guy begging for food out in front of the Newbury Park Target with his laptop computer.
Come on …. there are poor and destitute and there are scammers who freeload off folk’s good intentions, no?

Where does it end? The government continues to spend us into bankruptcy….now we need to provide the homeless with cell phones. Would this money not be better spent on educational training so that this man could get a job?

I don’t know, it’s kind too forced to do such things for 1st lady.

Who ever said he was homeless? Maybe he is a volunteer? There is NOTHING out there that says he is a homeless guy.
Flap
It was stated in the original link at the Los Angeles Times.
Give me a break
My question is, what does it matter if the man had a cellphone? All homeless people don’t live on the streets asking for spare change. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence would know that. Have you seen the status of our economy lately or is your head so far buried in the sand you’re oblivious to the world around you. Did you ever stop to think he may be among the millions of UNEMPLOYED in our nation? Wouldn’t a cellphone be a useful tool to have when you’re JOB SEEKING? Many of Americans are displaced living in shelters, tent cities, or with a relative if they’re lucky, but I guess they’re expected to have nothing but the clothes on their backs huh? Even if the man isn’t homeless, is it alright for him to simply get a MEAL?! Can he EAT? The number of Americans using Food Stamps and Food Pantry’s has doubled at the least since we’ve been in a Recession. Maybe seeing Mrs. Obama was the high point of his day and this is how you treat him. I mean come on people, give me a break with all the shallow assumptions and judgements. Ignorance is surely not bliss….. WAKE UP! Better than that…… GROW UP!!!!

@8
Ok, you can give this guy a cell phone on your dime – not mine.
How is that?
Give me a break
@ Flap
Your comment was to be expected but has no merit. Doesn’t he already have a cellphone? I do believe that’s what sparked all of this, he’s “homeless” and HAS a cellphone. Key word being HAS Flap. It’s obviously you didn’t read the last part of my comment……. Scroll up ^^^
Flap
No, you didn’t GET it.
So, never mind.

And the crowds asked [John the Baptist], “What then should we do?” In reply he said to them, “Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none; and whoever has food must do likewise.” (NRSV, Luke 3:10-11)
Has anyone ever considered there are benefactors, friends or family among us that would give a phone, prepaid or otherwise, to a needy individual so they may be contacted by potential employers, family or medical personnel? Must one be dirt poor and near death before they qualify for any kind of handout? I have several friends I help out that have their own apartments that can barely afford anything else, including food.
What the hell is wrong with you people?
Flap
So self-righteous…….
Self-reliance is a much better approach.
