    Chapter 2

    1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.

    2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

    3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

    4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

    5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

    6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

    7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

    8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

    9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

    10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

    11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

    12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

    13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

    14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

    15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

    16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.

    17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

    18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.

    19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

    20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

    21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

    ObamaCare is a California Loser

    How many months ago did I prognosticate that ObamaCare, while rammed through the Congress by Democrats, would NEVER be fully implemented? Look what is happening in California, which is probably BEST case.

    More than 1 million cancellation notices have been sent to Californians as the Affordable Care Act begins allowing individuals to buy insurance through exchanges, Jones said. The federal law requires policies to offer minimum levels of coverage, forcing companies to terminate many existing plans. But Jones said that under the law, insurers have another year to do so.

    More than a MILLION policy cancellations!

    How many Californians will be “BARE” (without insurance) over the next year?

    Just wait for the increase in premiums and the “sticker shock.”

    The Congress should get busy and make the necessary changes in the law or….. voters should change the Congress.

    Kill the Gang of 8 Immigration Bill

    A deeply flawed bill that will assure electoral disaster for the Republican Party in 2014 and beyond.

    The Republicans eager to back the bill are doing so out of political panic. “I think Republicans realize the implications for the future of the Republican party in America if we don’t get this issue behind us,” John McCain says. This is silly. Are we supposed to believe that Republican Senate candidates running in states such as Arkansas, North Carolina, Iowa, Virginia, and Montana will be hurt if the party doesn’t embrace Chuck Schumer’s immigration bill?

    If Republicans take the Senate and hold the House in 2014, they will be in a much better position to pass a sensible immigration bill. At the presidential level in 2016, it would be better if Republicans won more Hispanic voters than they have in the past—but it’s most important that the party perform better among working-class and younger voters concerned about economic opportunity and upward mobility. Passing this unworkable, ramshackle bill is counterproductive or irrelevant to that task.

    House Republicans may wish to pass incremental changes to the system to show that they have their own solutions, even though such legislation is very unlikely to be taken up by the Senate. Or they might not even bother, since Senate Democrats say such legislation would be dead on arrival. In any case, House Republicans should make sure not to allow a conference with the Senate bill.

    House Republicans can’t find any true common ground with that legislation. Passing any version of the Gang of Eight’s bill would be worse public policy than passing nothing. House Republicans can do the country a service by putting a stake through its heart.

    House Republicans should just kill it and move on to more substantive policy debate on entitlements and energy policy.

    From my email inbox earlier today from California Assemblyman Scott Wilk:

    Hi Everyone,

    On July 23rd there will be a special run-off election for the 16th Senate District.

     I’m asking that you join me to journey to southern San Joaquin Valley to walk precincts for GOP candidate Andy Vidak on Saturday, July 13th and Sunday, July 14th.  I’m looking for 15 more souls willing to give up a weekend to help end the Democrats’ super majority in the state Senate.

     In the primary, cherry farmer Andy Vidak missed avoiding a run-off by a mere  85 votes and he is up beyond the margin of error in every poll that has been conducted since.  However, this is a special election so voter turn-out with be the key.

     All expenses will be paid including: travel; lodging; meals and a Saturday night volunteer party.

     We’ll be departing 7:30 a.m. sharp from the Wells Fargo parking lot at The Old Road and Valencia Boulevard (right off of the I-5).  I anticipate us returning around 5 p.m. on Sunday.

     Winning this election will stop some of the bad legislation going through the Legislature, and secondly, it will help set the stage for a GOP come back in 2014.

    Here is some information on the race.

    Even though a Vidak and GOP win in this race will not affect the 2/3’rds Super Majority that California Democrats enjoy in the California State Senate, it would narrow their margin to only one vote.

    This is a winnable seat and if you have any time or some money to send Vidak’s way, it would be an effort well spent.

    WHEN, in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with another, and to assume, among the Powers of the Earth, the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s GOD entitle them, a decent Respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the Causes which impel them to the Separation.

    HE has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public Good.

    HE has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing Importance, unless suspended in their Operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.

    HE has refused to pass other Laws for the Accommodation of large Districts of People, unless those People would relinquish the Right of Representation in the Legislature, a Right inestimable to them, and formidable to Tyranny only.

    HE has called together Legislative Bodies at Places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the Depository of their public Records, for the sole Purpose of fatiguing them into Compliance with his Measures.

    HE has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly Firmness his Invasions on the Rights of the People.

    HE has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers.

    HE has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the Tenure of their Offices, and the Amount and Payment of their Salaries.

    HE has erected a Multitude of new Offices, and sent hither Swarms of Officers to harrass our People, and eat out their Substance.

    HE has kept among us, in Times of Peace, Standing Armies, without the Consent of our Legislatures.

    HE has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil Power.

    HE has combined with others to subject us to a Jurisdiction foreign to our Constitution, and unacknowledged by our Laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

    FOR quartering large Bodies of Armed Troops among us:

    FOR protecting them, by a mock Trial, from Punishment for any Murders which they should commit on the Inhabitants
    of these States:

    FOR cutting off our Trade with all Parts of the World:

    FOR imposing Taxes on us without our Consent:

    FOR depriving us, in many Cases, of the Benefits of Trial by Jury:

    FOR transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended Offences:

    FOR abolishing the free System of English Laws in a neighbouring Province, establishing therein an arbitrary Government, and enlarging its Boundaries, so as to render it at once an Example and fit Instrument for introducing the same absolute Rule into these Colonies:

    FOR taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws, and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:

    FOR suspending our own Legislatures, and declaring themselves invested with Power to legislate for us in all Cases whatsoever.

    HE has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection, and waging War against us.

    HE has plundered our Seas, ravaged our Coasts, burnt our Towns, and destroyed the Lives of our People.

    HE is, at this Time, transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to complete the Works of Death, Desolation, and Tyranny, already begun with Circumstances of Cruelty and Perfidy, scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous Ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized Nation.

    HE has constrained our Fellow-Citizens, taken Captive on the high Seas, to bear Arms against their Country, to become the Executioners of their Friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.

    HE has excited domestic Insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the Inhabitants of our Frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known Rule of Warfare, is an undistinguished Destruction, of all Ages, Sexes, and Conditions.

    IN every Stage of these Oppressions we have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble Terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated Injury. A Prince, whose Character is thus marked by every Act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the Ruler of a free People.

    NOR have we been wanting in Attentions to our British Brethren. We have warned them, from Time to Time, of Attempts by their Legislature to extend an unwarrantable Jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the Circumstances of our Emigration and Settlement here. We have appealed to their native Justice and Magnanimity, and we have conjured them by the Ties of our common Kindred to disavow these Usurpations, which would inevitably interrupt our Connexions and Correspondence. They too have been deaf to the Voice of Justice and of Consanguinity. We must, therefore, acquiesce in the Necessity, which denounces our Separation, and hold them, as we hold the Rest of Mankind, Enemies in War, in Peace Friends.

    WE, therefore, the Representatives of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, in GENERAL CONGRESS Assembled, appealing to the Supreme Judge of the World for the Rectitude of our Intentions, do, in the Name, and by Authority of the good People of these Colonies, solemnly Publish and Declare, That these United Colonies are, and of Right ought to be, FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES; that they are absolved from all Allegiance to the British Crown, and that all political Connexion between them and the State of Great-Britain, is, and ought to be, totally dissolved; and that as FREE AND INDEPENDENT STATES, they have full Power to levy War, conclude Peace, contract Alliances, establish Commerce, and to do all other Acts and Things which INDEPENDENT STATES may of Right do.     Alice and I are in Indianapolis, Indiana for the 4th of July. This is an annual vacation trek for us and we are spending the day with friends here in downtown Indy.

    As we celebrate America’s independence from tyranny, we must reflect on how hard fought our liberties are.

    A case on point is the military coup which is now happening in Egypt.

    I will have more tomorrow, including why you should all support Chris Muir and his excellent cartoon series: Day By Day.
