1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed.
2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)
3 And all went to be taxed
, every one into his own city.
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)
5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
10 And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
12 And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God
, and saying,
14 Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.
16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger.
17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.
18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds.
19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.
21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
Gov. Gavin Newsom is putting a moratorium on the death penalty in California, sparing the lives of more than 700 death-row inmates.
Newsom plans to sign an executive order Wednesday morning granting reprieves to all 737 Californians awaiting executions – a quarter of the country’s death row inmates.
His action comes three years after California voters rejected an initiative to end the death penalty, instead passing a measure to speed up executions.
Newsom says the death penalty system has discriminated against mentally ill defendants and people of color. It has not made the state safer and has wasted billions of taxpayer dollars, according to prepared remarks Newsom plans to deliver Wednesday morning when he signs the order.
This is a direct affront to the voters of California. Michael Morales should have been executed decades ago.
A California panel on Wednesday recommended that Charles Manson follower Leslie Van Houten be paroled after serving more than four decades in prison.
After a hearing at the women’s prison in Corona
If her case withstands a 150-day review process, it will rest in the hands of California’s new Gov. Gavin Newsom. Van Houten was recommended for parole twice previously, but then-Gov. Jerry Brown blocked her release.
Van Houten was among the followers in Manson’s murderous cult who stabbed to death wealthy grocer Leno LaBianca and his wife, Rosemary, in 1969. Van Houten was 19 during the killings, which came a day after other Manson followers killed pregnant actress Sharon Tate and four others in Los Angeles.
Tate’s sister attended Wednesday’s proceedings and said afterward that she vehemently disagrees with the parole recommendation.
“I just have to hope and pray that the governor comes to the right decision” and keeps Van Houten behind bars, Debra Tate said. Newsom’s office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
No parole …. period!
TWITTER’S GONE CRAZY BANNING PEOPLE ON THE RIGHT, so I’ve deactivated my Twitter account.
Flashback: Despite Twitter’s Protests
, The Stifling of Conservative Speech On The Platform Is Real.
UPDATE: People seem to want more, and although there’s nothing duller than posting a screed on why you’re quitting a platform, here’s the gist: I’ve never liked Twitter even though I’ve used it. I was a late adopter, and with good reason. It’s the crystal meth of social media — addictive and destructive, yet simultaneously unsatisfying. When I’m off it I’m happier than when I’m on it. That it’s also being run by crappy SJW types who break their promises, to users, shareholders, and the government, of free speech is just the final reason. Why should I provide free content to people I don’t like, who hate me? I’m currently working on a book on social media
, and I keep coming back to the point that Twitter is far and away the most socially destructive of the various platforms. So I decided to suspend them, as they are suspending others. At least I’m giving my reasons, which is more than they’ve done usually.
I know I have been lazy in not updating this blog with content. Is it easier to retweet and add a comment?
A balance is probably best and not let tech titans dictate/direct content or discussion.
According to a very recent Public Policy Institute of California Poll, Senator Dianne Feinstein’s lead over Kevin De Leon for re-election to her U.S. Senate seat has been cut in half, down from 22 points earlier this summer to 11 points now. Some observers say Feinstein’s drop in the Democrat-on-Democrat runoff, can be attributed to her insidious performance in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court. They say Republican voters who are “orphaned” in the Democrat-only election, who were previously lined up to vote for the much older Feinstein over former State Senate President Kevin De Leon, are having trouble sticking with Feinstein over the shabby treatment she has given President Trump’s nominee in the Committee.
Count me in as one of those conservative voters who will reject Feinstein on November 6 and vote for De Leon instead!….
…I am outraged at what Dianne Feinstein has done to Brett Kavanaugh. The one power I have to address this outrage is to not vote for her. But that is not enough in my opinion. Democrats who rule in California have succeeded in disenfranchising Republicans like me out of the option of voting for a Republican party candidate in the General election. But they can’t stop me from just ignoring my ballot in this election. So I am going to do what those Democrats would think unthinkable of me. I am going to vote for Kevin De Leon for the U.S. Senate this November and heartily encourage all my Republican friends to do the same. Let’s make the treatment of Brett Kavanaugh the reason why Dianne Feinstein is finally retired from politics. It will not make the Senate more liberal
, it will simply make California’s liberal Senate representation less effective. And I believe
, God will still help us even with Kevin De Leon.
One of the few times in recent memory I have voted for such an outspoken leftie. But, Senator Feinstein is just THAT bad for California.
Soft drinks account for 20% of children’s total beverage consumption, according to a new report released on September 13 from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Researchers looked at total drink consumption habits of U.S. children ages 2 to 19.
The group, led by Kirsten Hennrick, PhD, from the National Center for Health Statistics, investigated what children drink and how their beverage consumption habits vary by age, sex, and race/ethnicity.
“Beverage choices can impact diet quality and total calorie intake,” the report authors wrote. “Soft drinks accounted for 20% of total beverages consumed among youth. They include a wide variety of beverages
, typically associated with increased intake of added sugar, thus adding extra calories without the benefit of vitamins
, minerals, and fiber.”
People wonder why dental caries/disease hasn’t disappeared…..
Dr. Greenwald and Dr. Rai blew the whistle on Kool Smiles after they say they witnessed unnecessary dental procedures performed on children. CBS reached out to the company for a comment and they provided the following statements:
Statement from Kool Smiles:
“Our patients and their safety are our top priority and we will continue to work toward our mission of ensuring every child in America has a dental home. The settlement reached in December 2017 addressed treatment provided between 2009 and 2011, and was unrelated to the quality of dental care provided to patients. The company’s compliance and quality assurance programs lead the dental industry and we continue to implement ongoing measures to ensure every patient receives the best care.”
This past December
, 2-year-old Zion Gastelum died four days after visiting the Kool Smiles office in Yuma, Arizona. Zion’s death occurred just days after the Whistleblower suit was settled. The case had been in litigation for almost a decade.
Watch the video clip above and then the entire expose on the CBS All Access site, if you missed the live broadcast.
Pretty sad commentary on the practice of corporate dentistry.
, Doug Ducey, is demanding answers from the Arizona Dental Board after a television report on “fake” dentist anesthesiologist credentials.
Governor Doug Ducey is demanding immediate answers and action from Arizona’s Dental Board after an ABC15 investigation revealed a Valley dentist obtained a general anesthesia permit using documents multiple people and organizations said are fake and fraudulent.
In a letter sent Monday, Ducey directed the board’s executive director, Elaine Hugunin, to respond to his questions by close of business on Wednesday.
“The information and potential risk to his patients and the public over several years is alarming,” Ducey wrote.
On July 6, ABC15 revealed that Dr. Pankaj Goyal is accused of using a series of fake degrees, forged signatures, and false documents to obtain a 1301 General Anesthesia Permit from the dental board. The permit is the highest level of anesthesia certification and authorizes Goyal to administer general anesthesia or deep sedation by any means.
Dr. Pankaj Goyal repeatedly refused to answer questions about his anesthesia credentials on the phone and in person.
In a statement, his attorney said allegations about his credentials are “meritless.”
ABC15 also learned Elaine Hugunin directly received multiple warnings from multiple people about Goyal’s credentials beginning in 2014. But she declined to provide information and documentation about what happened with those warnings and declined to answer questions about their vetting of Goyal.
This credentials issue should be fairly easy to resolve.
, whether Elaine Hugunin remains in her position – that is a question.
The trial for the former owner of Bellefonte Family Dentistry and president of the Pennsylvania Dental Association accused of kidnapping and raping a patient of 17 years continued on Tuesday.
, 48, allegedly drove a sedated female patient to a root canal appointment he arranged at State Endodontics in October 2016. Spring Township police said Newman drove the woman back to her residence — although she asked to be driven back to her mother’s residence — after the procedure, which is where the rape allegedly occurred.
Newman is charged with four felonies — rape, criminal attempt at rape, sexual assault and kidnapping — and two misdemeanor counts of indecent assault.
The DNA evidence may prove decisive in this case.
