Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Friday that he would consider granting clemency to Crips co-founder and convicted murderer Stanley Tookie Williams.
After a private hearing with Williams’ lawyers at his Sacramento office, Schwarzenegger said he would meet again on Dec. 8 with the lawyers, Los Angeles County prosecutors and others involved.
Governor Schwarzenegger can consider ALL HE desires. But, the four murdered victims of Tookie’s violence deserve JUSTICE.
Tookie MUST suffer the ultimate penalty of our criminal justice system.
As governor, he has the authority to commute a death sentence to life without parole. He is not legally obligated to hold a public or private hearing. Schwarzenegger decides clemency requests on a “case- by-case basis,” said his spokeswoman, Margita Thompson.
Williams, 51, faces death by lethal injection on Dec. 13 for the 1979 slayings of four people _ a Whittier convenience store clerk and three people at a Pico Rivera motel a few days later. He maintains his innocence and has asked the California Supreme Court to reopen his case, alleging shoddy forensics wrongly connected him to three of the murders.
The Supreme Court has not ruled on his petition.
Los Angeles top law enforcement officers have asked Schwarzenegger to show NO MERCY for Williams.Williams is a “coldblooded killer” who has “left his mark forever on our society by co-founding one of the most vicious, brutal gangs in existence, the Crips,” according to the statement urging Schwarzenegger to deny clemency.
The letter was from Los Angeles County Dist. Atty. Steve Cooley, Los Angeles Police Chief William Bratton and Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca.
“Williams now seeks mercy, the very mercy he so callously denied” his four victims, according to the document, designed to counter Williams’ clemency petition submitted this month.
“Despite the overwhelming nature of the evidence against him, and despite the nonexistence of any credible defense, Stanley Williams steadfastly refused to take any responsibility for the brutal, destructive and murderous acts he committed,” according to the statement. “Without such responsibility, there can be no redemption, there can be no atonement, and there should be no mercy.”

In addition, Cooley sent a letter saying that since Williams founded the Crips, the gang “has been responsible for literally thousands of murders in Los Angeles County alone.”
Baca and Bratton also sent letters urging Schwarzenegger to show no mercy for Williams, now 51, who publicly renounced gang life nearly a decade ago.

I cannot wait until the founder of the Crips dies at the hands of the California justice system. This convict has actually convinced people that if you write some children’s books, that you can redeem yourself for a quadruple murder conviction. That doesn’t say much for the state of conviction these days. So long as he fries, I can handle it.
“Tookie deserves to die. Plain and simple. If he’s such a saint, let’s hurry him on his way to his everlasting reward.”
If Schwarzenegger grants Tookie clemency it will be mean a Republican Primary Election challenge for him in June …… and Arnold’s retirement from California politics.

Iraq War Watch: THE NOBLE CAUSE
Akef TayemA few miles away in a field beside the main road leading to Bush’s ranch, a lone Bush supporter set up camp Thursday with a tent and signs reading: “A Noble Cause.” The signs showed pictures of smiling Iraqi children.
Akef Tayem, who participated in pro-Bush rallies in Crawford this summer, said he returned because he felt Bush was under pressure to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq. But Tayem said that would be a mistake because Iraqis want democracy and appreciate what the U.S. is doing, especially the ousting of Saddam Hussein.
“Perhaps the troops, they feel like they don’t get gratitude or a thank you, and I’ll come and say ‘Thank you’ in my own way because it’s Thanksgiving,” said Tayem, who lives in Dallas and has relatives in Jordan.

Tom Cruise has made an unusual purchase for his fiancee Katie Holmes – one that will let them see the development of their baby.
“I bought a sonogram machine,” Cruise says on ABC’s Barbara Walters Presents: The 10 Most Fascinating People of 2005, to air Nov. 29 (10 p.m. EST). Excerpts of the interview are published in the latest issue of People magazine, on newsstands Friday.
The 43-year-old actor said the couple will do their own sonograms, which show fetus development with ultrasound waves. Cruise said he will donate the machine to a hospital after the baby is born. Sonogram machines range in cost from $25,000 to $200,000.

President 2008 Watch: Bill Richardson Lies About DRAFT Record (Baseball Draft) Part Two
Captain Ed calls Governor Richardson a LIAR.
Conveniently, after the AP checked out the claim, Richardson came to the same conclusion — at least, that’s how the former Clinton Cabinet member pitches it now. He now says that he believed he had been drafted because he saw it in a college program, as though a club which drafted a player would skip a minor step like contacting the player involved. He also says that because a couple of scouts thought that he could have been drafted, he actually was drafted. In fact, Richardson now says everything except what really apparently happened: he lied.
It certainly reminds one of the Clinton days, all right. Somehow, though, I don’t think that baseball fans need a lesson on the definition of “draft”. It’s what looks increasingly unlikely for Bill Richardson in 2008.
Flap agrees.
Believe me from a baseball father and AAU Baseball coach, you know when you have been drafted. And they keep stats and lists of these things.
Richardson isn’t in the book.
HE LIED.

The ASSociated Press has N.M. Gov Admits He Wasn’t Baseball Pick
Gov. Bill Richardson is coming clean on his draft record – the baseball draft, that is, admitting that his claim to have been a pick of the Kansas City A’s in 1966 was untrue.
For nearly four decades, Richardson, often mentioned as a possible Democratic presidential candidate, has maintained he was drafted by the Kansas City Athletics.
The claim was included in a brief biography released when Richardson successfully ran for Congress in 1982. A White House news release in 1997 mentioned it when he was about to be named U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. And several news organizations, including The Associated Press, have reported it as fact over the years.
But an investigation by the Albuquerque Journal found no record of Richardson being drafted by the A’s, who have since moved to Oakland, or any other team.
Richardson should fit right in as a running mate for Hillary.
Bill (Clinton) couldn’t remember details of his DRAFT record either.
