Illegal Immigration Watch: Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert Wants “A LONG LOOK” at Senate Immigration Bill
Rep. Brian Bilbray, R-Calif., right, participates in a mock swearing-in ceremony with House Speaker Dennis Hastert of Ill., left, on Capitol Hill Tuesday, June 13, 2006. Bilbray’s wife, Karen holds the Bible as his son Patrick looks on at right.
ASSociated Press: Hastert Deals Blow to Immigration Bill
Hopes for a quick compromise on immigration were dealt a blow Tuesday after House Speaker Dennis Hastert said he wanted to take a “long look” at a Senate bill offering possible citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants.
Hastert said hearings on the Senate bill should be held before appointing anyone to a House-Senate committee to negotiate a compromise immigration bill. Later, he said he was unsure what the House’s next move would be.
“We’re going to take a long look at it,” Hastert said late Tuesday.
House Majority Leader John Boehner agreed. “I think we should know clearly what’s in the Senate bill,” Boehner said. But he added there are lots of ways to understand its contents.
Code Words for – if our GOP majority members will not support an amnesty-laden immigration bill, then there will be NO conference committee appointed.
And on the Senate side, the GOP majority may have figured out that voters do not support their bill……
Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, also scheduled a hearing for Monday to review provisions in the bill requiring employers to verify that their workers are legal.
Cornyn said he opposes a provision allowing workers to use up to 20 documents to verify they are legal workers. Also, the Department of Homeland Security has raised concerns about how quickly it must have in place an electronic system that employers will use to verify their workers legal status, Cornyn’s spokesman Don Stewart said.
“This will give us a chance to look at it in more detail,” Cornyn said.
Sending a bill that has already passed the Senate to hearings would be a highly unusual move and make completing a final bill before Congress goes on its summer recess in August far less likely. Disagreement on procedural issue has kept negotiations from starting, but there were hopes that could be resolved this week.
As Flap said before, NO BILL is better than the Senate’s “amnesty for illegal aliens bill.”
Maybe it was the bricks or the dollar bills……maybe it was Representative Bilbray’s election.
So, why the change of heart?
All of the above.
Stay tuned as the GOP strives to understand voter sentiment over illegal immigration – just in time for the November elections.
Michelle Malkin has KILLING AMNESTY SOFTLY
And that is progress.

Representative Jim Moran Watch: A Great Orator of the Democrat Party?

Wall Street Journa/Opinion Journal: Great Orators of the Democratic Party

- “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.”–Franklin Roosevelt
- “The buck stops here.”–Harry Truman
- “Ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.”–John Kennedy

Sun Gazette: Moran: Democratic Majority Means More Money for 8th District
If Democrats win back control of the U.S. House of Representatives in November, U.S. Rep. Jim Moran said he would use his position in the majority to help funnel more funds to his Northern Virginia district.
Moran, D-8th, told those attending the Arlington County Democratic Committee’s annual Jefferson-Jackson Day dinner on June 9 that while he in theory might oppose the fiscal irresponsibility of “earmarks†– funneling money to projects in a member of Congress’s district – he understands the value they have to constituents.
“When I become chairman [of a House appropriations subcommittee], I’m going to earmark the shit out of it,†Moran buoyantly told a crowd of 450 attending the event.
Modern Democrat politics at its best – NOT!
Another reason why voters will NOT vote to change the leadership of the Congress in November – LIBERAL MORONS like Representative Moran.

Hillary Clinton Watch: Anti-Iraq War Crowd Booes Hillary
Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, center, D-N.Y., waves to the crowd during the Puerto Rican Day Parade in New York, Sunday, June 11, 2006.
ASSociated Press: Hillary Clinton faces anti-war critics
A liberal crowd both booed and cheered Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton Tuesday after she encouraged Democrats to have a “difficult conversation” about their position on the Iraq war in order to win over middle-of-the-road voters.
Clinton’s attempt to strike a moderate stance on the divisive issue of the war contrasted sharply with the angry words of another potential presidential contender, Sen. John Kerry, the party’s 2004 standard-bearer, who called the war “immoral” and a “quagmire.”
At a speech before a liberal gathering dubbed “Take Back America,” the New York senator took grief from those in the audience critical of her vote for the Iraq war and her opposition to an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops.
“I do not think it is a smart strategy, either, for the president to continue with his open-ended commitment, which I think does not put enough pressure on the new Iraqi government,” said Clinton, before turning to the anti-war liberals’ core beef with her.
“Nor do I think it is smart strategy to set a date certain. I do not agree that that is in the best interests,” said Clinton, prompting loud booing from some at the gathering.
Flap handicaps a 50 per cent chance Hillary is challenged from the LEFT for her 2008 presidency race.
The Moonbat LEFT hates Hillary because of her vote for the Iraq War. You know the war that John Kerry was for before he voted against it…..or whatever.
The Dims are a disaster on the Global War on Terror and no matter who their nominee will be Rudy Giuliani will be the next President.
Stay tuned as Hillary attempts to put out the fires to her LEFT by lashing out at President Bush or embracing Cindy Sheehan.Protesters Medea Benjamin from Code Pink, center, and Ann Wright from Dissent in a Democracy, right, stand up and interrupt Sen. Representative Patrick Kennedy Watch: Kennedy Pleads GUILTY to DUI
Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I., with fellow lawmakers Reps. Sam Farr, D-Calif., left, and John Murtha, D-Penn., back right, attend a House Appropriations Committee meeting on Capitol Hill, Tuesday, June 6, 2006, in Washington. Kennedy, the Rhode Island Democrat can expect the scrutiny to hit new levels as he seeks to put his personal life and political career back on track after crashing his car and spending nearly a month in drug treatment at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.
ASSociated Press: AP NewsBreak: Kennedy pleads guilty to DUI
Rep. Patrick Kennedy (news, bio, voting record) has reached a deal with prosecutors to plead guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of prescription drugs in connection for his middle-of-the-night car crash last month near the U.S. Capitol.
Two additional charges of reckless driving and failure to exhibit a driving permit will be dismissed under the plea agreement reached with prosecutors.
“As congressman Kennedy has said all along, he will take full responsibility for his actions and that is what he is doing today,” Kennedy’s chief of staff, Sean Richardson, said Tuesday.
And what real choice did this MORON have?
Now, will the voters of Rhode Island return this idiot to Congress?
Stay tuned……..
Update:
ASSociated Press: Kennedy sentenced after guilty plea to DUI
A judge sentenced Rep. Patrick Kennedy to drug treatment and a year’s probation after he pleaded guilty Tuesday to driving under the influence of prescription drugs.
Kennedy, D-R.I., will also pay $350 in connection with his middle-of-the-night car crash last month near the Capitol that he has said he has no memory of.
Two other charges against Kennedy were dismissed as part of a plea deal: reckless driving and failure to exhibit a driving permit.
Accompanied by his lawyer, the son of Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., entered his plea Tuesday afternoon before District of Columbia Superior Court Magistrate Judge Aida Melendez.
“I am pleading guilty to driving under the influence,” he said.
Melendez ordered Kennedy to undergo court-monitored drug treatment and pay $350 — $250 of which would go to the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Washington, and $100 to a crime victims’ fund. She also gave Kennedy a 10-day jail sentence that was suspended unless he violates probation, and she ordered him to serve 50 hours of community service with the boys and girls club.
A light sentence compared to California standards. In California ,Flap’s bet is if he was an average citizen he would have received jail time.
Kennedy should resign his office and get his life in order.
A green mustang reportedly belonging to Rep. Patrick Kennedy, D-R.I. is seen on Capitol Hill, Friday, May 5, 2006 The car was apparently involved in an early morning crash Thursday.

Illegal Immigration Watch: Mexican Border Crossings Reduced Since National Guard Troops Deployed
Mexican immigrants carrying bottles of water attempt to cross the Mexico-US border illegally from Sasabe, in the state of Sonora into the Arizona desert in the United States, April 2006. The United States deployed the first wave of up to 6,000 National Guard troops along its border with Mexico as it cracks down on illegal immigration, officers said.
ASSociated Press: Troops scare would-be illegal immigrants away from border, officials say
The arrival of U.S. National Guard troops in Arizona has scared off illegal Mexican migrants along the border as a whole, significantly reducing crossings, according to U.S. and Mexican officials.
U.S. authorities said Monday that detentions along the U.S.-Mexico border have decreased by 21 percent, to 26,994, in the first 10 days of June, compared with 34,077 for the same period a year ago.
Along the Arizona border, once the busiest crossing spot, detentions have dropped 23 percent, according to the U.S. Border Patrol.
The desert region’s blistering June temperatures typically drive down the number of migrants, but not so drastically, said Mario Martinez, a spokesman with the U.S. Border Patrol in Washington.
The 55 soldiers who arrived June 3 are the first of some 6,000 troops to be gradually dispatched all along the border as part of President Bush’s plan to stem illegal immigration to the United States.
It is about DAMN time. This border needs to be secured and secured NOW.
Why wasn’t this done six years ago? Because…….
President Bush does not favor border security FIRST but HE MUST enforce the existing immigration laws and the will of the voters.
Stay tuned to see if this reduction in crossing continues or the illegal alien invasion simply moves to a different location.

Iraq War Watch: President Bush Visits Baghdad
President Bush is greeted by Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki at the U.S. embassy in Baghdad.
ASSociated Press: Bush Makes Surprise Visit to BaghdadPresident Bush made a surprise visit to Iraq on Tuesday to meet newly named Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and discuss the next steps in the troubled, three-year-old war.
It was a dramatic move by Bush, traveling to violence-rattled Baghdad less than a week after the death of terror chief Abu Musab al-Zarqawi in a bombing attack. The president was expected to be in Baghdad a little more than five hours.
The trip was known only to a handful of aides and a small number of reporters sworn to secrecy because of obvious security threats for Bush and members of his entourage.
Landing at Baghdad airport, Bush transferred to a helicopter for a six-minute ride into the heavily fortified Green Zone. White House officials said the helicopter ride posed the greatest risk for the president.
Bush was greeted by another day of violence in Iraq _ dozens of people were killed or wounded Tuesday in explosions in the northern oil city of Kirkuk, and eight bodies were found in western Baghdad. Al-Maliki pledged “no mercy” in a crackdown against insurgents.
It was Bush’s second trip to Baghdad in less than three years. He visited American troops at Thanksgiving, 2003, in a visit confined to the airport and limited to several hours. That trip also was kept secret.
Bush flew here secretly from talks at Camp David, Md., with senior national security advisers who gathered Monday to review how to bolster Iraq’s fledgling government and its capacity to handle the country’s defense.
In Baghdad, Bush was to meet with al-Maliki and senior members of his Cabinet. White House officials said the president wanted to meet face- to-face with the prime minister to size him up and assure him of U.S. support.
He said the message that he wants to send to the Iraqi government is “we stand with you. What you’re doing is important.”
And why not?
The American people MUST support the Iraqi people in their quest for freedom and liberty.
But, where is the rest of the world?
AWOL
Stay tuned…….as the President shows his and America’s committment to Iraq and the Iraqi people.
