Giuliani Notes: Dana Milbank NERD Tries to Be funny
Now Dana Milbank, NERD, of the Washington Post attempts to be funny regarding Mayor Giuliani’s speaking fees.
And Flap knows how much Milbank gets for writing this NOT funny or even amusing prose:
ZERO
Maybe Milbank should pick on David Geffen or James Carville. Both are almost as funny looking as he.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Gallup Poll – Rudy Has Uniquely Broad Based Political Appeal
The Gallup Poll: Giuliani Has Uniquely Broad Based Political Appeal
Clinton’s popularity concentrated with Democrats
Recent USA Today/Gallup presidential heats measures indicate the 2008 election is not going to be easy for either party. Various pairings of the leading Republican and Democratic contenders generally result in extremely close races. If such early indications are correct, to win, the candidates may need to maximize their support from all sides: their political base, political independents, and even members of the opposing party.
Data from the Feb. 9-11, 2007 survey suggest the leading candidates have very different chances of accomplishing such a political trifecta. Only one candidate, former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, has relatively strong favorable ratings across the political spectrum. New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is highly rated by Democrats, but receives relatively weak reviews from independents and Republicans. Arizona Sen. John McCain and Illinois Sen. Barack Obama fall somewhere in between.
******
Let’s look at the favorability ratings for the two main impediments to Rudy winning the White House:
McCain does OK but Giuliani is better. And McCain’s unfavorability is trending upward.
The question: Is Rudy’s unfavorability trend line increasing? Now, Hillary Clinton.
Flap is starting to believe that David Geffen is a terrific political handicapper.
Stay tuned……

Giuliani Notes: Rudy Stumping in Virginia
Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani speaks to members of the Republican Party of Virginia in Vienna, Va., Monday, Feb. 26, 2007.
Jonathan Martin over at Politico has the POOP on Rudy’s stumping in Virginia tonight.
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani riffed on familiar themes of taxes and terrorism in a speech to a cozy room of Virginia Republicans here tonight, laying out a broad set of principles organized around the idea that the GOP is the party more committed to expanding freedom.
Raising money for a beleaguered state party that has suffered consecutive statewide losses, Giuliani also told over 100 dinner-goers that “there are lot of lessons we can learn from last fall.”“We have to be the party of the future,” Giuliani said in a speech that an aide said was a long-standing commitment. “We have to be better known for what we are for than what we are against,”
And, he told an audience that had a handful of faces reflecting the diversity of the area, the GOP must be “a party of inclusion.”

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Hoover Institution Lunch
Former Mayor of New York and presidential candidate Rudolph Giuliani addresses the Hoover Institute in Washington, February 26, 2007.
Washington Post The Fix: Rudy Embraces Reagan Legacy
Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani offered his vision for a redefined Republican party during a speech to the Hoover Institution in Washington earlier today.
That vision? In a word “freedom.”
In a sometimes meandering 30 minute speech, Giuliani wove the importance of freedom through a variety of topics from taxes to school choice to entitlement reform. He also used the idea of freedom to illustrate the differences between Democrats and Republicans.
“The Republican party is the party of the people,” said Giuliani. “The Democratic Party is the party of government.”
Other impressions of the same speech are at Hotline and the AP.
So, what did the Mayor discuss?
Foreign Policy:
“Foreign policy has always been an area of great interest to me,” he said, adding that since leaving office in 2001 he has traveled abroad at least 90 times and visited nearly three dozen foreign countries. “I know the world,” asserted Giuliani.
Why Giuliani switched from being a Democrat to a Republican:
“I don’t think anything separates us more right now between Republicans and Democrats than how we look at taxes,” the former New York mayor said. “What we understand as Republicans is that, sure, the government is an important player in this, but we are essentially a private economy. What Democrats really believe … is that it is essentially a government economy.”
In the days of President Kennedy, Giuliani said, Democrats understood the concept of the private economy and cutting taxes. But, he said, Democrats have “kind of lost that.”
“It’s one of the reasons that I used to be a Democrat and I’m now a Republican,” Giuliani said before quoting Winston Churchill as saying: “If you’re not a liberal when you’re 20, you have no heart, but if you’re not a conservative by the time you’re 40, you have no brain.”
Global War on Terror:
When speaking about the war on terror — or rather, as he has renamed it, “the war of the terrorists against us” — Giuliani argued that we should be comparing the war not to America’s struggle in World War II, but to the Cold War. In the Q&A session, Giuliani also took the opportunity to condemn the congressional non-binding resolutions as “a way to be safe. It was a way to not make a tough choice.”
It appears Hizzoner received a warm reception from the Stanford University’s Hoover Institution Overseers – a conservative institute based in California. Bill Simon, the Mayor’s friend and Director of Policy for the presidential campaign introduced the Mayor as “a friend, a mentor, a former boss, and a fellow Ronald Reagan Republican.” There were numerous interruptions for applause and the conservative crowd was receptive to Hizzoner’s message.
Stay tuned……

Al Gore Watch: HYPOCRISY – An Inconvenient Truth
Tennessee Center for Policy Research: Al Gore’s Personal Energy Use Is His Own “Inconvenient Truthâ€
Gore’s home uses more than 20 times the national average
Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.
Gore’s mansion, located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).
In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.
The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.
Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.
Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.
Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.
“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,†said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.
In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.
Let’s see if Oscar winning Gore can explain or buy his way out of this one? Remember his excuse of his use of private jet airplanes and buying pollution credits.
Another winner for the “Father of the Internet.”
Good Grief……….

Iraq War Watch: Cut Off the Funding?
US soldier stands next to a major arms cache that was found near the Shiite village of Jadidah. US troops in Iraq have found a huge haul of deadly armour-piercing bombs of a type Tehran has allegedly smuggled to Shiite militias.
Washington Post (Via Hugh Hewitt): An insider’s guide to the upcoming week
The House and Senate return to action and will be picking up right where they left off: talking about Iraq. Senate Democrats are pursuing a binding resolution to rescind the 2002 resolution granting President Bush war authority, to narrow the scope of the military’s mission and to begin to bring troops home. Some House Democrats are looking into strategies for cutting funds for the war.
If the Democrats are sincere (which they are not) about ending the war then they should force the vote to cut off the funding for it. This is the clearest but most political dangerous path.
Will they have the COJONES?
Doubtful…….

Giuliani Notes: CPAC – Rudy Will Speak on Friday Part 2
Mayor Giuliani is scheduled to speak to the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday.
But, the event is NO where to be found on their website home page.
What does this mean?
Certainly the organizers have changed their website pages since the last screen shot a few days ago:
Come on ACU.
If you are going to invite a GOP presidential candidate who is leading in the polls, at least afford him the courtesy of listing his name as a participant.
Giuliani is not listed on the Friday agenda either.
So, when will CPAC change the pages?
Flap wants to know.
Or is Rudy NOT welcome?
