The “K” Street folks can read the polls too.
Flap doesn’t think raising campaign cash will be one of Rudy’s problems.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: The Firefighters Flap Redux
So, who will you believe?
A couple of union leaders (who happen to be police and firefighters – Flap will give them that):
ORA twice elected Mayor who was on the scene:
Yes, there are those who have beefs with the Mayor.
Oh they will try but voters remember what they have seen.
Even Ben Smith at Politico admits: “Giuliani also has a lot of admirers among victims, firefighters and cops, though, It’s worth keeping this in context, and noting that most New Yorkers, even those who loathed him, thought he did a good job that day.”
Stay tuned……..
Republican presidential hopeful, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani shakes hands with Thomas Lindsey during a campaign rally with first responders at the North Spartanburg Fire Department Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2007, in Spartanburg, S.C.

Thirty-four percent of registered Republicans support Giuliani, while 18 percent support McCain, the poll finds. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich of Georgia and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney are each tied at nine percent in the poll.
In a similar CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll conducted at the end of January, McCain trailed Giuliani by only six percentage points, registering 26 percent to Giuliani’s 34 percent.
The Poll:
The poll, conducted on March 9-11, surveyed 401 registered Republicans or Independents who lean Republican, and carries a margin of error of plus or minus five percentage points.

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Blogger Conference Call March 12, 2007 With Ed Goeas and Brent Seaborn
The Rudy Giuliani Presidential Exploratory Committee will hold a conference call today with bloggers to discuss the state of the 2008 Presidential race.
Live Blog:
Present:
Ed Goeas – Pollster
Brent Seaborn – Director of Strategy
Maria Comella
State of the Race:
Brian: Good month or six weeks, growth has been interesting. MSM and talking heads holding numbers down initially. Alot of same outlets now have switched to – when they find out what he is about then voters will switch. Campaign looking at these poll numbers. Ballot lead among conservatives. Rudy is the plurality candidate – even among those voters who are very conservative and correctly identify Rudy as a liberal or moderate candidate on social issues.
Ed: general numbers 4 national surveys. 14 point lead in multicandidate race. Interesting data – Gallup – image rating fav vs unfav. Rudy at 64-21 a 3:1 ratio and 78-10 among GOP voters. Campaign consistent with internal polls -50% favorable is strongly favorable. Increasingly job as Mayor being mentioned instead of 9/11.
Brent: Look at social issues vs fiscal issues
Ed: strong awareness of voters as center-right in fiscal issues and center-left on social issues.
Running with a large segment in the middle.Brent: good separation in the numbers between social and fiscal issues.
Ed: Multi-dimensional approach by the voters. the overlay is a very positive image of the Mayor.
Questions:
Ankle Biting Pundits (Bull Dog pundit): for Brent 1999 Roe v. Wade
Brent: Policy – doesn’t know if he is correct to answer. To Maria….outlined Mayor’s pro-choice position but would not attempt to answer the Mayor’s position legally.
American Spectator: Details of polling identifying Rudy as center-left.
Brent: Not going to share internal data
Ed: Look at Mayor’s ideology in general sense….hedging……
1. Where does he stand on McCain Feingold?
2. Polling – Isn’t polling soft? and do you think trends will hold up?
Brent:
Whole voter cycle accelerated; primary schedule moved up. Well defined candidates with almost 100 % name ID.
Polling may flip around a couple of times.
Gary Gross: Question for Ed
Who is going to fight the GWOT – bigger issue than social issues? Seeing this in polling?
Ed: Yes also seeing this in vs. Hillary Clinton. Trap of seeing what other side generalizes about social conservatives. Voters are balancing.
Accuracy of state polling, American Research Group, 10 points down in Florida.
Ed: State by State polling. Those states focusing earlier and small sample size. Modeling on top of survey research – don’t want national survery results to outweigh state results – may skew national data. 70% favorable and strongly favorable 50% of that number or 35 % of the numbers are strongly favorable of the Mayor’s candidacy.
In conclusion: Maria Comella
Flap’s take:
The call was a first attempt to reach out to the blogosphere but the Giuliani campaign was NOT ready to answer policy questions.
Ed and Brent gave short attention to substantive questions about Roe v. Wade and McCain- Feingold.
The bloggers wanted MEAT and got mashed potatoes.

Iran Nuclear Watch: Russia Postpones Nuclear Plant Launch Over Payments
The Bushehr nuclear reactor in southern Iran
AP: Russians: Iran nuke plant to be delayed
The state-run Russian company building Iran’s first nuclear power plant said Monday that the reactor’s launch will be postponed because of Iranian payment delays.
“It will be impossible to launch the reactor in September, and there can be no talk about supplying fuel this month,” Atomstroiexport said in a statement that followed the collapse of bilateral talks last week on the funding dispute. It accused the Iranians of failing to give a written obligation to resume funding for the project.
Russia has accused Iran of paying only a fraction of the required monthly payments of $25 million (euro19 million) for construction work at Bushehr in recent months, and warned that the funding delays would push back both the reactor’s launch and the delivery of the uranium fuel needed to power the reactor.
Iran has urged Russia to speed up the fuel delivery, but Russian officials said it would only be delivered six months before the plant’s launch.
Of course, Iran denies there are payment problems and demands that Russia deliver the uranium fuel.
You cannot blame the Russians for demanding payment up front.
After all, the Bushehr reactor is a prime site for this:
And Bushehr is on the coast of Iran, an easy target for the US Navy. But, does Iran need the uranium fuel for their
energydiversion program?Probably…..

Giuliani Notes: Senator David Vitter of Louisiana Endorses Rudy
Mayor Giuliani and Senator David Vitter of Louisiana and his wife Judith in Louisiana
Senator David Vitter Announces Support for Rudy Giuliani
The Rudy Giuliani Presidential Exploratory Committee today announced that Senator David Vitter will serve as the Southern Regional Chair. Senator Vitter will help lead the campaign’s efforts to build support in the south and in the United States Senate.
In announcing his endorsement, Senator David Vitter touted Giuliani’s leadership and reputation as a proven problem-solver. “Rudy Giuliani has the strong, unwavering leadership and sound judgment we need in this time of war and terrorist threat. His performance under the extreme pressure of September 11th proves he is the determined leader our country needs to face today’s challenges head-on.â€
“I believe the Republican Party needs to always be the party of free market economics and reform. Rudy implemented those principles as Mayor of New York by cutting taxes 23 times, making government more efficient and moving welfare recipients into jobs. It’s exactly the kind of conservative reform the federal government needs,†Vitter concluded.
A good pick up in the South for Rudy.
Louisiana is scheduled to have its Presidential primary election on February 9, 2008.
Another early state lock-up for Hizzoner?
The number of convention delegates is small in comparison to say California that holds their primary on Super Tuesday, February 5th but the Mayor wants to contend in all areas of the country.
Does he anticipate an early knock-out or a drawn out delegate fight?

Giuliani Notes: Rudy on Abortion Public Funding
But, will this hurt Giuliani with the right?
Yes, in some states and not in others e.g. New York, New Jersey, California and Illinois.
Those voters that would NOT vote for Rudy because of his pro-choice views may be MORE offended but they were not voting for him, in any case.
Now, let’s watch McCain and Romney pander to the anti-abortion folks. Each of them have their own problems with the pro-life position.
Mitt has flipped on the issue and McCain has never been a staunch pro-lifer (ask Rick Santorum).
