Cindy Sheehan Watch: MoveOn.org Schedules Vigils

Cindy Sheehan with her Anti-War handler, at the January 2005, “Words and Music in Honor of Fahrenheit 9/11” gathering, held at Los Angeles’ House Of Blues.

When Cindy Sheehan is not busy pestering President Bush in Crawford obviously she plans political activism.

The Washington Post has (on a front page story) Cindy Sheehan’s Pitched Battle, In a Tent Near Bush’s Ranch, Antiwar Mother of Dead Soldier Gains Visibility.

Cindy Sheehan vaulted into national consciousness this month on the power of her story as the grieving mother of a fallen soldier.

But what began as a solitary campaign to force a meeting with President Bush by setting up camp along the road to his ranch has quickly taken on the full trappings of a political campaign. Sheehan is working with a political consultant and a team of public relations professionals, and now she is featured in a television ad.

So, is it surprising that an organized media campaign is being waged by the Left anti-war crowd?

Moveon.org has scheduled Vigils for Cindy Sheehan.

Wednesday, August 17, 2005 7:30PM

Cindy Sheehan, mother of Army Specialist Casey Sheehan who was killed in Iraq, continues her vigil outside President Bush’s ranch in Crawford, Texas. She was recently joined by more moms who lost a child in Iraq and other military families. Meanwhile President Bush continues his five-week vacation and pledged Thursday to keep U.S. troops in Iraq—meaning more moms will lose a child.

Cindy has asked supporters to start candlelight vigils in their communities to support her and call for an end to the war. So, MoveOn and True Majority are teaming up to host Vigils for Cindy Sheehan on Wednesday, August 17th, to show our solidarity with Cindy.

Our vigils will be simple and dignified. Together, we’ll acknowledge the sacrifices made by Cindy Sheehan, her son, Casey and the more than 1,800 brave American men and women who have given their lives in Iraq—and their moms and families.

Hosts are urgently needed to help organize the Vigils for Cindy Sheehan. If you can host a vigil on your own, you will be making an enormous contribution to this nationwide event. Thank you. Host your own Vigils for Cindy Sheehan or sign up for an event near you.

Members of CodePink, a women’s antiwar organization, have pitched their tent near Sheehan’s.

Join Cindy Sheehan’s Protest in Crawford
Cindy Sheehan went to Crawford to ask President Bush, “Why did you kill my son? What did my son die for?” Her son, Casey, 24, was killed in Iraq, on April 4, 2004. President Bush continues to refuse Cindy’s requests for a meeting, so she has made a stand outside his Crawford Ranch. At her side is CODEPINK”s Diane Wilson who began a hunger strike at their roadside vigil until Bush talks to Cindy. Show your solidarity with Cindy by joining us in Crawford, fasting with Diane, or BIRDDOG BUSH at his events throughout the country. Click here to check out daily blogs from Crawford and see who is fasting with Diane today.

TrueMajority — an antiwar group founded by Ben Cohen, one of the creators of Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream — hired Fenton Communications, a Washington public relations firm that has worked intermittently with Sheehan over the past year to coordinate media coverage.

Support the Mothers of Fallen Soldiers, Calling for Peace

Cindy Sheehan is bravely demanding Bush explain why her son died fighting in Iraq. She shared her story at a TrueMajority-sponsored event in April:
“Mr. President…don’t spill our country’s precious lifeblood.”

Her voice is powerful. Please contribute so more can hear it.

The most effective spokespeople for bringing the troops home are the mothers, fathers, and family members of soldiers killed in Iraq, who are demanding to know why President Bush sent their sons, daughters, husbands and wives off to die.

TrueMajority members have already donated more than $30,000 to help keep members of military families on the President’s trail throughout the summer. If we can reach $100,000 we can push our campaign against the Iraq occupation to the next level, and really keep momentum in this country turning against this war.

Please donate to get this rolling.

Blogosphere:

Joe Trippi, the political consultant behind former Vermont governor Howard Dean’s early success in the 2004 Democratic presidential primary race, hosted a conference with Sheehan for liberal Internet bloggers, hoping their online dispatches will draw even wider attention.

Looks like the Left is trying to replay the campaign of 2004.

Cindy Sheehan is not simply a grieving crackpot mother who wants redress for the loss of her son.

She is a political activist attempting to change American public opinion.

It was a nice, yet, disingenuous try by the LEFT to use a pathetic, grieving mother to humiliate the President and by stealth pursuade folks to her point of view.

Cindy Sheehan has been exposed and should be treated like any other left-wing moonbat opposed to the President’s policies on the Iraq War.

Michelle Malkin has more, YES, CINDY SHEEHAN CHANGED HER STORY

Update #1

The Associated Press has Normal Life Over for Protesting Mother.

Sheehan co-founded an anti-war organization and began talking, demonstrating, speaking at a congressional hearing. She got a Web site, a public relations assistant (financed by an anti-war group), an entourage of peace activists and a speaking tour.

But while her message was strong and widely disseminated, she didn’t become world famous until about a week ago when, after speaking at the annual Veterans For Peace national conference in Dallas, she took a bus to Crawford, Texas, site of Bush’s ranch, to have a word with her president.

Ok, Cindy has been OUTED as an activist. And she should be treated in the press like one – a protester with a political agenda.

No special treatment or celebrity status, right?

From the Leftie MSM….. well everyone knows the story.

    DEAR FLAP,

JUST THOUGHT I’D DROP A RESPONSE TO YOUR ARGUMENT ON SHEEHAN. I BELIEVE BUSH WAS RIGHT NOT TO MEET WITH HER BECAUSE IT WOULD HAVE GIVEN HER A POLITICAL LIGITEMACEY THAT SHE HAS NOT EARNED. I ALSO BELIEVE THAT THE MORE MEDIA ATTENTION SHE IS GIVEN THE MORE OF A VICTIM SHE BECOMES. ITS BAD ENOUGH HER SON HAS BEEN KILLED, AND OF COURSE HER ANGER AND SENSE OF LOSS ARE BEING FULED BY THE ATTENTION SHE IS BEING GIVEN. MY POINT HERE THE MORE WE SHOW ARE SENSITIVITY TO OUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS BEING BLOWN APART THE MORE WE APPEAR WEAK TO THE ENEMY AND THE MORE STRENGTH THEY GATHER “SORT OF A RAZORS EDGE”.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THIS IS BUSH IS NOT VERY BRIGHT. THE WAY HE HAS RUN THIS WAR IS CRIMINAL. HE DOESN’T HAVE A CLUE AS TO WHAT COMES NEXT UNTILL SOMEONE TELLS HIM. HEB USE OF PLAUSIBLE DENIABILITY HAS WORN THIN AND IT APPEARS HE IS GRADUALLY BEING PRESSED THE MEDIA
FOR MORE ANSWERS INSTEAD OF SOUND BITES.

WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IS MEMBERS OF THE SENATE AND HOUSE, AND THE TOP 5% OF AMERICAN INCOMES, TAKE THEIR SONS AND DAUGHTERS DOWN TO THEIR MARINE CORPS AND ARMY RECRUITER AND ALLOW THEM TO SHOW THEIR PATRIOTTISM AND THE IMPORTANCE OF SPREDING FREEDOM AROUND THE WORLD REALLY IS BY ENLISTING IN THE ARMED FORCES. THIS WOULD SHOW SHEEHAN AND OTHERS WHO THREATEN OUR FREEDOM THAT THIS IS NOT A WAR FOR JUST THE POOR OR WOKING CLASSES BUT FOR ALL CITIZENS INCLUDING THE PRIVILEDGED AND WEALTHY SO THEY TO CAN SHOW THEIR PATRIOTISM AND SHARE IN THE REWADS OF FIGHTING AND DYING IN IRAQ
