Israel at War Watch: Hezbollah Leader Nasrallah Threatens More Rocket Attacks on Cities in Central Israel
Image from the Hezbollah television station Al -Manar aired Saturday July 29, 2006 shows Hezbollah leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah who in his statement threatened to attack more Israeli cities in central Israel. He also claims Israel suffered ‘serious defeat’ in ground fighting around a border town. At least 448 Lebanese have been killed in the fighting that broke out after Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers and killed eight others in a cross-border raid. Most casualties have been civilians, and some estimates range as high as 600 dead. Thirty-three Israeli soldiers have died in fighting, and Hezbollah rocket attacks on northern Israel have killed 19 civilians, the Israeli army said.
AP: Hezbollah chief threatens more rockets
Hezbollah’s leader Sheik Hassan Nasrallah threatened more rocket attacks on cities in central Israel and claimed Israel suffered a “serious defeat” in ground fighting around a Lebanese border town from which troops pulled back on Saturday after a week of heavy battles.
The threat came a day after Hezbollah fired one of the most powerful rockets in its arsenal for the first time, one able to reach the outskirts of Tel Aviv. Friday’s rocket strike hit outside the Israeli town of Afula, the furthest rocket strike yet.
“The bombardment of Afula and its military base is the beginning … Many cities in the center (of Israel) will be targeted in the ‘beyond Haifa’ if the savage aggression continues on our country, people and villages,” Nasrallah said in a speech aired on Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television.
Israel “has not made a single military accomplishment” in its 18-day-old offensive on Lebanon, Nasrallah said.
The Israeli military announced its forces had moved out of the town of Bint Jbail but said its mission of wearing down Hezbollah guerrillas there had been acheived. Military officials said they never intended to take the town. A week of fighting there killed 18 Israeli soldiers, and Israel claimed at least 26 guerrillas were killed there Friday – a claim Hezbollah denied.
The question Flap has to the Israeli Defense Forces and the Israeli government is:
Are you going to “DISARM” Hezbollah or not?
If non-state terrorists were shooting rockets at my cities, Flap would direct as many troops as necessary to clear out those damn rocket launchers and terrorists that are firing them.
Granted Hezbollah has blended in with the civilian population of southern Lebanon and guerilla type wars are always slow going but it appears to Flap that Israel’s command does not have the WILL to eradicate the Hezbollah menace.
If Israel pulls back or proceeds with its half assed military approach, it will be a victory for the Hezbollah terrorists. And, in two years, Nasrallah will be back launching more sophisticated rockets at Israel and perhaps threatening/blackmailing with WMD laced missiles.
Israel has to decide. Make a stand now or face the consequences.
An Israeli soldier guards a UN convoy crossing the Israel-Lebanon border into Lebanon near the Israeli village of Avivim, July 29, 2006. Hizbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Saturday his guerrilla group would fire more rockets at central Israeli cities if Israel’s offensive in Lebanon was not halted.
Stay tuned…..

Representative William Jefferson Watch: Appeals Court Rules Jefferson Has 2 Days to Review Documents
A federal appeals court has allowed Rep. William Jefferson to review all the documents taken from his office by the FBI in a May search of his office that stems from an ongoing bribery investigation.
Fox News: William Jefferson to Get 2 Days to Review Papers in Bribery Case
A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia returned the case to the U.S. District Court and ordered that Jefferson have two days to review copies of the material seized, which includes more than a dozen computer hard drives and two boxes of paper documents.
This would allow the Louisiana Democrat to say which documents are legislative in nature in the hopes of preventing them from being considered by the courts in any further action regarding the bribery case.
The district court also must perform its own review of the documents to determine their admissibility
Constitutional issues aside about the documents seized from his House of Representatives office, the issue is whether a member of Congress is “above the law.” There was a duly executed search warrant and common sense says this was a lawful search.
Perhaps the two days review will allow the appellate court to dispel any impropriety in the separation of powers doctrine.
Jefferson has been under investigation since March 2005 for allegedly using his position to promote the sale of telecommunications equipment and services offered by iGate, a Louisville-based firm, that sought contracts with Nigeria, Ghana and other African nations.
In return for his help, Jefferson allegedly demanded stock and cash payments. The congressman has not been charged and has denied wrongdoing.
The overnight search on May 20 — which lasted 18 hours — was part of a 16-month international bribery investigation of Jefferson, who allegedly accepted $100,000 from a telecommunications businessman, $90,000 of which was later recovered in a freezer in the congressman’s Louisiana home.
Flap wonders how Jefferson will explain that cold hard cash of $90 grand in his freezer though.

Iran Nuclear Watch: France Introduces United Nations Security Council Chapter 7 Resolution that Demands Iran Suspend Uranium Enrichment by August 31
Reuters: UN looks to vote next week on Iran nuclear measure
France introduced a draft resolution to the full U.N. Security Council on Friday that demands Iran suspend nuclear activities by August 31 or face possible sanctions.
The text is to be sent to governments of the 15 council members in the hope of a vote on Monday, said France’s U.N. ambassador, Jean-Marc de la Sabliere, this month’s Security Council president.
He said delegations could suggest amendments or changes by Saturday but he hoped there would be none.
The draft calls on Iran to comply with resolutions enacted by the board of governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency and demands Tehran “suspend all enrichment-related and reprocessing activities, including research and development.”
If Iraq does not comply by August 31, the council would consider adopting “appropriate measures” under Article 41 of Chapter 7 of the U.N. Charter, which pertains to economic sanctions, says the draft.
There are no real “TEETH” in this resolution but it is probably the best that will ever come out of the United Nations Security Council.
Russia and China will NEVER support sanctions against their friends in Tehran.
To Russia’s U.N. ambassador, Vitaly Churkin, the draft did not threaten sanctions but agreed to “discuss” them if Iran did not adhere to the resolution’s demands.
But Bolton emphasized that the text imposed a “mandatory and binding requirement” for Iran to comply with IAEA demands and if it did not “we will move to sanctions in the Security Council.”
And what was that date that Iran said it would either accept or reject the P-5-Plus-1 proposal?
Ah, yes, August 22nd.
The draft is under Chapter 7 of the U.N. Charter, Article 40, which says the council, before taking any action, can call on the those concerned to “comply with such provisional measures as it deems necessary.”
Chapter 7 makes a resolution mandatory and provides options for enforcement.
But, there are No automatic enforcement provisions.
Britain’s U.N. ambassador, Emyr Jones Parry, agreed but said the resolution did not automatically impose sanctions or give license to any military enforcement action.
“Our hope is that the resolution will actually concentrate all our minds that Iran will choose the diplomatic option,” Jones Parry told reporters.
Wisful thinking……
Stay tuned for Ahmadinejad’s bloviations in the morning…..

Israel at War Watch: Where is Hezbollah Leader Sheik Hassan Nasralleh?
Washington Times: Hezbollah leader said to be hiding in Iranian Embassy
Intelligence reports indicate the leader of Hezbollah is hiding in a foreign mission in Beirut, possibly the Iranian Embassy, according to U.S. and Israeli officials.
Israeli military and intelligence forces are continuing to hunt for Sheik Hassan Nasrallah, Hezbollah’s secretary-general, who fled his headquarters in Beirut shortly before Israeli jets bombed the building last week.
And the Iranians say he is not there, sparing the world a Jack Bauer fourth season moment. At least for now, the Iranian embassy will NOT be bombed, escalating the conflict with an act of war against Iran.
So, where is he?
Probably far away from the conflict, but the Mossad is looking for him.
