Iran Nuclear Watch: United Nations Draft Sanctions Proposal Wants Iran Technology Sales Banned
A security car passes in front of the Isfahan nuclear facility, Iran November 20, 2004. Iran is unlikely to be able to develop a nuclear bomb before 2015, the chief of Germany’s BND foreign intelligence agency said on Tuesday.
AP: West wants Iran technology sales banned
The United States, France and Britain will urge the U.N. Security Council to ban the sale of missile and nuclear technology to Iran for its defiance of demands to stop uranium enrichment, diplomats said Tuesday.
The U.N. diplomats told The Associated Press that a draft resolution would commit U.N. member countries to deny entry to Iranian officials involved in developing the country’s missile or nuclear programs.
The measure also would deny most expert help provided by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Typical projects run by the U.N. atomic watchdog in Iran, as listed in a confidential IAEA document seen by the AP, are help in disposing of nuclear waste produced by any reactor and local radiotherapy against tumors.
One of the diplomats, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the draft was not yet public, described all three measures as moderate and narrowly focused in an attempt to win Russian and Chinese backing to punish Iran’s refusal to suspend uranium enrichment. The diplomat added that Moscow and Beijing could be formally presented with the draft as early as later this week.
Sounds to Flap that these sanctions are aimed at North Korea and Iran, targeting the possible transfer of nuclear materials and technology.
Will Russia and China go along?
Possible but no sanctions that are stronger will be acceptable.
Germany is reporting that Iran is some time away from achieving a nuclear weapon. However, this would be greatly accelerated if Russia, China and /or North Korea were to help Iran. Is this the rationale for the draft sanctions?
Stay tuned…….

Iran Nuclear Watch: Ahmadinejad Threatens Europe
ranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad shakes hands with Belarussian Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov in Tehran. Iran has admitted it was heading for UN sanctions over its nuclear programme, warning it would take “appropriate measures” in retaliation for any punitive action.
Wall Street Journal: Ahmadinejad Does Europe
The Quote:
“We have advised the Europeans that the Americans are far away, but you are the neighbors of the nations in this region. We inform you that the nations are like an ocean that is welling up, and if a storm begins, the dimensions will not stay limited to Palestine, and you may get hurt. It is in your own interest to distance yourself from these criminals (Israel). . . . This is an ultimatum.”
And Europe will either NOT believe or choose NOT to believe CRAZY MAHMOUD?
The UNSC will be meeting over the next few weeks for a fruitless exercise in sanctioning Iran.
Stay tuned as the centrifuges spin in Natanz…..

Iraq War Watch: Partition? Strongman? Withdrawal?
Prime Minister Tony Blair (L) meets with visiting Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Barham Saleh at his official residence at 10 Downing Street, in central London. Nearly half of Iraq ‘s 18 provinces will be under Iraqi control by the end of the year, Saleh has said, despite growing concerns about increased violence in the troubled state.
Jed Babbin has the policy alternatives.
Why not WIN?
Flap agrees with Paul. American security interests are not threatened with civil strife in Baghdad.
However, a precipitous redeployment/retreat of American troops will.
There are other choices, including winning the peace, continuing to train Iraqi security forces and helping the Iraqi government reach political consensus on self-governance.
Stay tuned…….

Iran Nuclear Watch: Iran Expanding Uranium Enrichment
A view of the Arak heavy-water project 190 km (120 miles) southwest of Tehran in this August 26, 2006 file photo. Iran said on Sunday the West’s ‘carrot and stick’ method for getting it to halt sensitive nuclear fuel work was doomed to failure.
AP: Diplomats: Iran Expanding Enrichment
Iran is expanding its uranium enrichment program even as the U.N. Security Council focuses on possible sanctions for its defiance of a demand to give up the activity and ease fears it seeks nuclear weapons, diplomats said Monday.
The diplomats, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to divulge the information to media, told The Associated Press that within the past few weeks Iranian nuclear experts had started up a second pilot enrichment facility.
And why not?
The United Nations and the European Union have set deadline after deadline and Iran has been consistently adamant: IRAN WILL NOT CEASE URANIUM ENRICHMENT.
Why?
IRAN COVETS NUCLEAR WEAPONS
Iran President Ahmadinejad boasts that Iran’s nuclear capability has INCREASED TENFOLD.
While the G-8, including the United States and European Union have fiiddled Rome has been burning. Negotiations with Iran have bought Iran precious time to master the nuclear fuel cycle.
Of course, Russia and China will do NOTHING to stop Iran because of their business and oil deals but the feckless United Nations and the European Union muddle along. I mean can the UNSC REALLY expect Russia and China to shoot themselves in the foot economically?
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad speaks during Friday prayers at a university in Tehran October 20, 2006. Ahmadinejad said on Monday Western powers were wrong if they thought Iran would retreat under political pressure from its nuclear plans, even as the country faces possible sanctions.
Iran does NOT care about UNSC sanctions. The Mullahs and Ahmadinejad will tolerate a little inconvenience to possess the weapons to wipe Israel off the map.
Ahmadinejad today says he wants to increase Iran’s population. Interesting, because he will need more people after the coming civilian conflagration from Israel and the United States if Iran does not stand down their nuclear program.
