California Restaurant Owners Support Tax Increase to Pay for Health Care
Of course, the California Restaurant Association members will support either a sales or payroll tax increase to pay for health insurance for the uninsured.
Why?
So, as employers they won’t get stuck with the bill to pay for the health care of their low wage employees.
Everyone agrees that Californians should have the best health care available. The disagreement comes as to the financial responsibility for the massive costs.
Arnold’s 2007 health care plan is dead and the Governator has stated he will veto the Democrat’s plan to increase employer’s payroll taxes mandating health care insurance. And voters will never approve a sales tax increase.
The deadline for legislative action is September 15th.
Nothing will happen in the California Legislature this year – and thankfully so.

Pete Wilson Watch: Statue is Unveiled But Latinos and Gays Protest Anyway

Pete Wilson’s statue was unveiled yesterday and Latino and Gay Protesters made perfect asses out of themselves.
Pete Wilson in front of his statue, August 25, 2007
The Pete Wilson Quotes:
“Isn’t this a great country that anyone can make a perfect horse’s ass of himself at any time?â€
“View this statue, as I will, as a surrogate recipient of the tribute that’s deserved by all of you who shared the dream, who made it come true and gave all the proud neighborhoods of San Diego the vibrant heart they needed.â€
The Nonsense:

“Our message is that Pete Wilson has been about white supremacy all along. It is racist to honor this guy,†said Olin Tezcatlipoca, director of the Los Angeles-based Mexica Movement.
Tezcatlipoca’s group toted signs depicting Wilson in a Nazi uniform with a swastika.
Pete Wilson served California with distinction. Flap looks forward to visiting San Diego and seeing the statue.

America is Harmless as an Enemy and Treacherous as a Friend
Mark Steyn: They Wait for US to Run Again
American victory in the Cold War looks inevitable in hindsight. It didn’t seem that way in the Seventies. And, as Iran reminds us, the enduring legacy of the retreat from Vietnam was the emboldening of other enemies. The forces loosed in the Middle East bedevil to this day, in Iran, and in Lebanon, which Syria invaded shortly after the fall of Saigon and after its dictator had sneeringly told Henry Kissinger, “You’ve betrayed Vietnam. Someday you’re going to sell out Taiwan. And we’re going to be around when you get tired of Israel.”
Consequences for cutting and running from Iraq, you say?
Hell the Democrats just want to win the Presidency and control Congress – nothing more and nothing less.

Illegal Immigration Watch: Immigration Activists March in Los Angeles for Elvira Arellano

Several hundred demonstrators took to the streets of Los Angeles to protest the arrest and deportation of immigration activist Elvira Arellano, Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007.
Flap wonders why these folks are protesting illegal activity?
Elvira Arellano is a convicted felon (fraudulant use of social security numbers) who has no inherent right to be in the United States.
The next Rosa Parks in the struggle for Civil Rights?
HARDLY.
Several hundred demonstrators march down Broadway in downtown Los Angeles to protest the arrest and deportation of immigration activist Elvira Arellano, Saturday, Aug. 25, 2007.

Pete Wilson Watch: Gay and Latino Protests Over Pete Wilson Statue
Statue of former California Governor and Mayor of San Diego Pete Wilson will be on display on Horton Square, outside the NBC 7/39 Building on Broadway Circle, San Diego.
Protests over former San Diego Mayor, California United States Senator and Governor Pete Wilson’s privately funded statue?
The Nonsense:
During a recent San Diego City Council meeting, Enrique Morones, with the group Border Angels, said the statue promotes “hate.â€
He chastised Wilson’s championing of Proposition 187, an initiative passed by voters in 1994 that would have denied services to illegal immigrants. The courts later ruled the initiative unconstitutional.
“Would the city of San Diego allow a Confederate flag in front of the Malcolm X Library?†Morones asked the council last month. “Would the city of San Diego allow a statue of Adolph Hitler in front of a Jewish temple? Then why would a Pete Wilson statue be in the heart of a city that is one-third Latino?â€Gay rights activists accuse Wilson of ignoring their community when he was mayor from 1971 to 1983 and during his tenure as governor.
Flap has known Pete Wilson since the early 1980’s having hosted a fund-raiser for the then Mayor in my home in Thousand Oaks. Pete is one of the nicest politicians Flap has had the opportunity to meet.
But, calling him a racist or anti-Gay is just Bull.
The dedication of the statue outside the NBC building at Horton Square, San Diego will be at 4 PM today.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Watch: California Budget Deficits On The Horizon
Former California Governor Gray Davis, right, speaks to Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as former Governor Pete Wilson, left, looks on, during a news conference Thursday Aug. 23, 2007 in Los Angeles. The three along with members of the Voices of Reform Coalition including Common Cause and League of Women Voters met to discuss ways promote a fundamental change in the way political boundaries are drawn to insure fairness and transparency in elections.
The California budget stalemate ended this week but all is not well with the state budget.
It is ironic that Governor Schwarzenegger is being touched above by former California Governor Gray Davis who was recalled (and replaced by Arnold) partly because of his huge budget deficits.
Tom McClintock, Flap’s California State Senator sees stormy economic clouds on the horizon.
Flap sees tax increases or bonds to raise state revenue because the Governor cannot control spending. If the economy goes south, the Governator may be in the same predicament as his predecessor, Gray Davis.
