John McCain Watch: McCain Responds to Romney Negative Illegal Immigration TV Ad

John McCain reacts to Mitt Romney’s negative attacks. JSM: You know, I find it ironic Mitt Romney would attack me on the issue of immigration.
John McCain will be “on air” soon with the above television ad in response to Mitt Romney’s attack ad below:

McCain and Romney are going mano a mano in New Hampshire. Rest assured Mitt Romney (with unlimited campaign resources and plenty of pre-purchased television time) will respond with a new ad challenging McCain’s credibility.
Are New Hampshire voters tiring of this back and forth? Or will one of these candidates ride these ads to victory?
Stay tuned…..

Rudy Giuliani Watch: Obey the GOP 11th Commandment

Rudy Giuliani talking to reporters in Iowa, December29, 2007
The Iowa and New Hampshire television and radio airwaves and mailboxes are full of NEGATIVE CONTRAST ads. McCain and Huckabee are calling Romney names on the campaign trail. But, Rudy Giuliani is taking a different approach – the high road – at least for now.
While his rivals accuse one another of dishonesty and lambaste one another’s records, Rudy Giuliani is attempting to stay above the fray, saying he will not attack his fellow GOP contenders.
“I’d rather stay away from criticism of other Republicans. Our objective is to beat the Democrats and the less we criticize each other, the better position we’re gonna be in to beat the Democrats,†he said after a quick stop at an Indianola bakery. “â€It seems to me we got so many issues to talk about in which we can distinguish ourselves, our different experiences, our different backgrounds, and give the voters a chance to decide.â€
But, the fact is that negative campaign ads work.
In today’s polls from Iowa, Mitt Romney has eroded Mike Huckabee’s lead. And, John McCain has vaulted into the lead (of sorts -within the margin of error) in a national GOP poll. Both as a result of negative ads.
Rudy will play the UNIFIER for now and will wait for the dust to clear between the Romney-Huckabee and Romney-McCain media wars. In the meantime, Giuliani’s media people will focus group test the negative pieces to see which are the most effective to use against the apparent candidate emerging to challenge Rudy in Florida.
Flap has been saying for months that the GOP campaign will be won or lost with the Florida media war between Giuliani and one or more other candidates.
And, Rudy will go NEGATIVE in Florida – because it works.

John McCain Watch: McCain Calls Mitt Romney a PIG
Republican presidential hopeful, Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., greets members of the audience following a campaign stop in Dover, N.H., Saturday, Dec. 29, 2007.
John McCain often criticized for having a volatile temper called Mitt Romney a pig today while campaigning in New Hampshire.
As Senator John McCain rolled down a New Hampshire highway today in his “Straight Talk Express” campaign bus, he listened to a description of the latest attack on him by his chief rival in this state’s primary, Mitt Romney.
He smirked as he heard the former Massachusetts governor’s assertion that McCain wanted to allow illegal immigrants to remain permanently in the United States.
Asked how he intended to respond, the Arizona Republican said: “Never get into a wrestling match with a pig. You both get dirty — and the pig likes it.”
This reminds Flap why McCain’s campaign imploded many months ago – McCain is a cranky, angry old man who does not have the temperament to be President.
Remember Bomb Iran?
McCain’s temper has been an issue.Yes, Mitt Romney is attacking you, Senator, but to call him or insinuate that he is a PIG is beyond all belief.
John McCain, you owe Mitt Romney an apology.
And, both of you, grown, mature men, should knock off the sandbox fighting.

Mitt Romney Watch: Romney Hits McCain with Another Television Ad in New Hampshire

Deep pockets Mitt Romney is “on air” with another
contrastattack ad against John McCain in New Hampshire today.ANNOUNCER: “Mitt Romney and John McCain on immigration.
“McCain championed a bill to let every illegal immigrant stay in America permanently.
“He even voted to allow illegal immigrants to collect Social Security.
“Mitt Romney said ‘no’ to driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants.
“‘No’ to tuition breaks for illegal immigrants, and he authorized his State Police to enforce federal immigration law.
“On illegal immigration, there’s a big difference.â€
Stay tuned…….
Update:
After McCain was read the script of the ad from a journalist’s blackberry, he said he was not surprised by the new attack, the second in such days. “I think we expected it… We did have a response ad and I think it’s effective. But for us to get down in that tit for tat — we’re just not going to do that.â€
Senior strategist Charlie Black said the voters will question Romney — not McCain — over the latest round of ads. “The biggest issue in the race right now is not what [McCain] says on any specific issue. It’s Romney’s credibility.â€

Mike Huckabee Watch: Calls Romney Desperate and Dishonest While Defending John McCain Against Negative Romney Ads

Mike Huckabee last night in Iowa lashed out against Mitt Romney and defended John McCain as an American hero. The comments above were in response to this negative attack ad now airing against McCain in New Hampshire:
“Desperate is one thing, but when you get desperate and dishonest its not a pretty sight. But then I saw the ad he’s using against McCain in New Hampshireâ€, Huckabee said in front of an audience of 500. “it’s one thing to attack me…John McCain is a true, honest-to-God American hero, and we should respect and honor him for who he is.â€

Actually, Huckabee who has limited resources to go “on air” against money bags Mitt is defending HIMSELF from this similar attack ad from Romney airing in Iowa where Huckabee leads in the polls.

Huckabee wants to take the “high road” and is invoking the GOP 11th Commandment – thou shall not speak ill of another Republican. But, Huckabee has no choice since he does not have the campaign resources to go tit for tat with Romney – and neither does McCain – but he as anyway in an all or nothing gambit in New Hampshire.
Stay tuned…..
Update:
Hotline has more on the strategy of why Huckabee now hearts John McCain:
If Mike Huckabee can defeat Mitt Romney in Iowa and John McCain dispatches the former Massachusetts governor in the Granite State, the one-two punch could knock Romney right out of the race. And Huck, by expressing his admiration for McCain last night in Ottumwa, shows plainly that he hopes the two men can do just that.

Besides Iowa, will Huckabee have any traction? Huck is not ready for prime time in foreign policy.

And, why do the Iowa Caucuses matter at all because of low voter turnout?
